Although I'm with you, I'm not sure I agree with you about Confession with a priest......
Properly done, the priest is not there as an authority figure but as a spiritual guide to explore how I can avoid future sin be directed into a holier way of living.
@YuGiOhDuelChannel if you are talking about the part I think you may be, I think he was just reading from some notes he has in his bible, not and actual verse. @ 19:41?
yeah thats it. I saw him open his Bible I guess he had his notes right there also. I was wondering cuz I was not familiar with that verse, if it even had been one, and it sounded interesting lol
mhc seattle, I hope you post more videos of this length. For those of us who live outside your area, these sermons/videos are much anticipated and most welcome. Pastor Mark's preaching causes frequent, personal self-examination followed by conviction of sin. I need this!
@hyacinthdew I think they have full archived videos on their website. Even downloadable mp3's if I am not mistaken. i have listened to whole sermons on my mp3 player :) Check out their website :)
@nuclearmusician Thanks for the suggestion. I never clicked on that RSS feed button b/c I do not like using RSS (too unmanageable, b/c I tend to want to read absolutely everything from the folks I signed up with)but to my pleasant surprise Mars Hill also offered the email subscription to the podcasts, which I am more comfortable with. Thanks for suggesting this.
Indeed they are. But it can also be argued that we ALL are hypocrites. I do get what you're saying, though. There are those whose lives are totally opposite of what they preach and it causes tremendous harm.
@michelle2chat Yes, I agree that we all are hypocrites. However, christians should be held to a much higher standard! Think about it, christians claim to have the most powerful, loving, knowing god residing withing their conscience! That buy itself is mind boggling and IF true should make a world of difference with them! Interesting that christians really are no different than non-christians! continued:
continued here: Of course there are those select few who appear to be "godly"(via christ), BUT there are a select few of non-believers who are above average in the area of compassion, patients, sensitivity, giving, etc. In addition, there's the other end of the spectrum of both christian and non! To sum up-I personally do not think christianity is anything other than a man made religion!
hey man, hope you were able to see all those replies =)
I totally hear ya. Being a christians means "dying to self" on a regular basis, and doing what God wants us to do rather than fulfill our own desires. This is not a popular message! Christians in the West today are incredibly self-absorbed and in many ways unwilling to surrender to a life of obedience to God. Some are fooling themselves into thinking they are saved if they continue a life in opposition to God's will.
Christians *are* held to a much higher standard but if you are expecting perfection in Christians, you will be disappointed. It takes an entire lifetime for the sanctification process, as we learn from our mistakes and grow on a daily basis. We struggle. But we should always move forward. I understand what you're saying and the frustration you have in seeing NO change in christians. If there is never any change at all, then that is a red flag that they may think....(continued)...
..(continued here)... that they are genuine believers but maybe they really aren't. But this uncomfortable truth doesn't change the fact that God calls you to believe in and trust in His Son. He says "follow Christ". He doesn't say "follow other Christians". We haven't arrived yet, we still struggle with our old natures. I'm not trying to excuse rotten behavior in Christians, but to offer explanation. And I agree with you that its a shame. What I disagree with is that it invalidates (cont)
@michelle2chat If you truly had an ALL powerful, ALL, loving god spirit dwelling in your heart(conscience)you surly wouldn't need time to perfect your spirit, HOWEVER, if religion is man made and one strives to be christ like(christ not dwelling within)I certainly see that and respect one for the efforts!
Ah, I see where you're going with this =) but 99miner, that is a fast-food "must have it now" mentality =) The christian term "sanctification" refers to a life long process. We don't instantly go from 0-1000mph in one second. Do we physically grow instantaneously, or does it take several years?
@michelle2chat I don't think you see where I was going. You seem to be caught in religion! When(if)jesus was ministering there was no christianity, nor sanctification, etc! You're talking of man made concepts! I simply said IF jesus' spirit(super natural)actually physically dwelled within you, the idea that it would take a lifetime(or anywhere near that time)to emulate jesus is silly! continued:
continued here: Remember, we're talking about an "ALL powerful" deity(creator of the universe)dwelling within you! Again, as stated before, if it's a man made religion, of course what you say will take a lifetime and even then you won't be able to achieve it! Anyway, I don't disagree with what you say except for one thing! My claim is that religion is all man made and you claim otherwise!
But you could also argue that IF an "ALL powerful" deity exists, then babies would grow to adulthood in 18 minutes rather than 18 years, because you happen to think that would be a better way of God doing things. But you and I can't impose what we think is a better way of doing things. Its not our universe. =)
Jesus was the only one who never sinned. No where in the bible does it say we will never ever sin after we become a christian, in fact, it says that if we say we have no sin we are liars 1John 1:8).. so, your view that we should automatically be 100% christlike in all circumstances is to place too heavy a burden on us. Its just not the reality, my friend. We do have struggles and we do sin. But you're right, we should strive to obey God.
I'm always glad when people mention the sins of omission. Its often overlooked when the topic of sin is discussed, but it can be just as grievous as sins of commission. It is wrong to be like those in the story of the Good Samaritan who walked by the man in need when they had the means, ability, and time to help him. Basically, it is sin to have a lack of compassion for others and to be apathetic and lacking love for the world around us. I loved the last half of the vid so much. SOLID teaching!
This reminds me A LOT of the "Good Person Test" by Ray Comfort at Living Waters.
Very nice to see the two of them agree on Repentance this much :)

Pastor Mark makes this little noise kind of like a groan but more like a clearing of the throat. it's hilarious and I think it's his trademark!

I am starting to thoroughly enjoy mark's teaching, and I wish I could attend this church.
Could someone let me know what verse he was reading out of towards then end, when he is describing what John does not put with.
