Oh my god!!! if he had changed his name to Ricky Martin, Ricky Martin would now be a synonym for manliness, elegance, class, deep voice...etc. The total opposite to what Ricky Martin represents in this day and age.
Why did they not have you in the Oscar memoriam.. Your Ricardo Montalban.. you were in so many movies. Not having you is like not having marlon brando when he died.
watching how amateurish Eric Bana was as the mandatory bad guy in the new Star Trek movie I tripled my appreciation of Montalban for his portrayal of Khan it's not that easy to be a believable nutjob an damn he was just perfect
RIP Ricardo. He died on my birthday (14th of January). When I celebrated my 19th and found that Ricardo died, there was no joy to that day after that.
Yeah. I read his bio way before he died because I was into Loretta Young and he married her sister, Georgiana and also because I'm Catholic and he was a very good Catholic which really struck me as odd from a Hollywood star. I want to be an actress and I thought I should read about someone who went through the same moral dilemmas actors who don't compromise their beliefs go through. It's tough, but it helped. I never thought he'd die within a year of my reading his autobiography.
the fondest memory of ricardo i can recall is, THE CHRYSLER CORDOBA, WITH ITS LAVISH CORINTHIAN LEATHER. disclaimer* no corinthians were harmed while making the chrysler cordoba.
No one on film had ever dominated my thoughts with nightmares like this man had as Khan Noonien Singh. He is the greatest villain ever to grace the Star Trek universe. His performance was so good on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, it made me fear him not only as Khan, but as him. haha. I was a little kid like 6 y/o when I first watched STII. Excellent actor. Totally underrated in every respect. Totally underappreciated. There will never be another like him.
What class, this man shows the same majesty as many actors of his generation, what an incredible individual. The only think I don't like with the interview is the uncharismatic and dull interviewer.
I just watched this a few weeks ago and I was startingto follow his work more ..so I was hocked when I heard he passed just recently..very sad...BUT he leaves behind a very nice long career of work. :)
Thanks for posting. I remember living on the Texas-Mexico border as a kid and spending the Saturday nights at my abuelita's. She would let me tune her TV to Fantasy Island because she knew Ricardo Montalban from his Mexican films. I translated Solid Gold, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, and TJ Hooker for her. LOL.
Lol. "Like the blacks did." Black shows produced by blacks tend to be just as bad as black shows made by whites. They still usually have ebonics speaking low-pants potty mouthed hipster dufuses.
I remember him giving an interview in the documentary "Bronze Screen" talking about what it was like for a Latino actor in a time when few non-stereotyped roles were available, and I am very glad that this talented man was able to escape that sort of prejudiced typecasting.
I saw him in Wrath of Khan and in Spy Kids: Game Over, and his performance as the retired superspy/action hero grandpa character was awesome; I think he made his role the most memorable character in that entire film.
Senor Montalban, I remember when you graced the leading role on Fantasy Island and I was mesmerized by your voice and talent. I became an avid T.V. and movie buff. Thank you for your incredible work. I enjoyed this interview. Sincerely, Joelle Valente-Poetic Artist of "The Valente Principles"
