We didnt put them in power. They would have deposed Sihanouk, even if they werent supported by the CIA because the chinese stopped supporting Sihanouk. Sihanouk later supported the Khmer rouge.
If we had done nothing the Vietcong would have deoposed Shihanouk. They would have created a Vietnamese puppet state. Such a state would'nt have been any worse than a U.S. supported Right-Wing dictator (Lon Nol killed many innocents BTW) and certainly would have been better than the KR. In hidsight we should have let the Vietnamese take over Cambodia, ony that would have prevented this Genocide. Good thing Vietnam liberated Cambodia!

I think the communists kill more than 1.7 million Cambodians, its more like 3 or 4 millions. Not a single Cambodian family was not effected by this killing, some lost a few of their family members but most lost 80 to 90% of their family relatives. To say that they killed only 1.7 million to make it less serious.

Cambodian population before the communist was 7-8 million. I think 3 is more accurate because if you look at it the first month after they took over, a third of my extended family members were already dead. And we were the lucky ones. I know we can't go back and change anything but I just don't want people to quote text book that was written by foreigner who doesn't even know the magnitude of the massacre.

Actually, the Cambodian Communist regime was worse than the movie. Mr. Pran didn't suffer the agony that most Cambodians suffered. He lived with one of the communist leaders so he had enough to eat, at least for awhile anyway and he escaped fairly early on. Most Cambodian endured the torment and hunger for 4 years. Most dont know what the Khmers went through only now that they start to know because they found a lot of oil in Cambodia. When you're economically viable people start to notice.

I'm not saying the Vietnamese cared about the Cambodians, I'm just saying they weren't nearly as horrible as Pol Pot, and they actually behaved better in Cambodia than did ARVN. They didn't do anything nearly as radical when they captured Saigon. So there were a few Viets, that dousn't mean that Hanoi had any more control over the KR than we did over the Mujahadine.

I think the communists kill more than 1.7 million Cambodians, its more like 3 or 4 millions. Not a single Cambodian family was not effected by this killing, some lost a few of their family members but most lost 80 to 90% of their family relatives. To say that they killed only 1.7 million to make it less serious.

This is where the true becomes blurred. At the time, there were only about 5-6 million Cambodia. So do the math. the figure 1.7 is more or less accurate. You can make comparison to Tibet. They accused the Chinese of facilitating starvation that resulted in 2.5 million. However, at the time, there were only about 3 million tibetians. Becareful what you read.

Cambodian population before the communist was 7-8 million. I think 3 is more accurate because if you look at it the first month after they took over, a third of my extended family members were already dead. And we were the lucky ones. I know we can't go back and change anything but I just don't want people to quote text book that was written by foreigner who doesn't even know the magnitude of the massacre.

Actually, the Cambodian Communist regime was worse than the movie. Mr. Pran didn't suffer the agony that most Cambodians suffered. He lived with one of the communist leaders so he had enough to eat, at least for awhile anyway and he escaped fairly early on. Most Cambodian endured the torment and hunger for 4 years. Most dont know what the Khmers went through only now that they start to know because they found a lot of oil in Cambodia. When you're economically viable people start to notice.

Most of my grandmother's relatives are from North Vietnam. My uncles & his friends all fought for the VietKong. Basically they were brainwashed like Gatorn; got a AK-47 and to go fight for China! After the war all of them either died, got imprisoned, or executed, because their superior officers double crossed the Chinese and allied with Russia! Hence alot of VietKong loyal to China were all executed. My uncles from the south never had to deal with such treachery, thanks to the USA!

Communism - Civil rights were abolished. Children were taken from their parents and forced into labour camps. Schools were shut down; so were hospitals. Lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers, scientists were murdered, together with their extended families. Buddhist monks were killed & all temples destroyed. Music and radio were banned. Huh? Being Vietnamese, we have fought the Chinese for 1000's of years. This is the mistake JFK made thinking that Ho Chi Minh would not ally himself with the Chinese. China sponsored the VietKong, with weapons and manpower. This made it tough for the Americans because Vietnam being a narrow country the VietKong went into Laos and Cambodia to avoid the B-52 from bombing them.

Ho Chi Minh allied himself with the Chinese but at the same time also double cross the Chinese and made a deal with the Russians! Ho Chi Minh used the Chinese! With the Chinese & Russian help they defeated America. But guess what Ho Chi Minh's goons did when they got to power? They double crossed China and killed/executed all the Chinese officials working in Vietnam! They declared also that anybody that was of Chinese decent must leave Vietnam because of the pact they signed with Russia!

Our family disguised ourselves as Chinese to flee the country, hence we are known as the "Boat People". America pulled out in 1975! When America pulled out in 1975 China lost control of Vietnam to the Russians! China pissed off like mad, because of supplying manpower and weapons to help Vietnam kick out the U.S. and got nothing in return, decided to sponsor Pol Pot to fight against Vietnam to take it back.

China killed almost 100 million of there own people. 100 million!!! They backed Pol Pot and killed over 3 million Cambodians. I am a boat refugee from Vietnam, and know how Communism works and how the Chinese Communist Ideas infested and contaminated my own country. The horrific atrocities I have seen in Vietnam is eerily similiar to Cambodian people!!!

Where did you get this information? This is a revisionist history. You're refering to the famine in China. It was structural government error. That number is exaggerated. That's revisionist history. The number is exaggerated. I know about the famine. So does Russia famine. Those are unintentional. Compare to Inda, the US favorite neolib, they put out more skeletons in 7 years than the so called China Famine. You should listen to dissident like Chomsky and Michael Parenti. They will tell you the deal. Beside, the US killed 30 million native America intentionally!

Else where is the same, but let's take the Republic of Congo for an example. When they discovered precious natural resources in Congo, the country took a down spiral and been in civil war ever since. Up to this day, over 4 millions Congoleses are dead and the civil is still raging. This is easy to do.

How about sadam Hussein? He was brought to power via a coup that is backed by the CIA. He was used to oppress his people and neutralize regional independent. He was instigated to attack on Iran for it revolution. And gave the go ahead green light to attack Kuwait. The same else where. The convicted killers of Haing Ngor were Tak Sun Tan, Jason Chan and Indra Lim. They belonged to a los angeles area chinatown youth gang. Although there were rumors of it being a political assassination, no evidence was presented in court to support that theory. The 3 young men were petty thieves. They stole Ngor's Rolex watch and then shot him when he refused to hand over a locket with his late wife's picture inside.

Simply stating that the "Killing Fields" is an internal affair of Cambodia! Also Pol Pot was givin political asylum by the Chinese Government! China realized killing 50 million of its own people during the Cold War was a bad policy! So China now let other countries do the killing! For ex. North Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Darfur, Iran, and Pakistan. So they can nuke or threaten countries like India, South Korea, and Taiwan. These Muslim or Terrorists states are being used by China! China does not even care about its own people, thats why it killed 50 million Chinese. Vietnam and Iraq are very similiar, because of China!

Wow, how very similiar to the Chinese Cultural Revolution in which Mao killed all intellectuals and jailed dissidents. Pol Pot was educated by Mao/Deng and the Chinese government taught him all he needed to know. The millions of Chinese people that died under Mao under the "Cultural Revolution" occurred at the same time Pol Pot was doing his genocide in the "Killing Fields" of Cambodia!

EveryTime I see Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, I see him as a puppet of China, very similiar to North Korea's Kim Jong Il and Pol Pot of the Khmer Rouge. Also similiar is Pakistan's president MUSHARRAF, getting Nukes in exchange that they point them at India! Instead of millions that died by the Khmer Rouge doing China's dirty work. Billions may die in a nuclear halocaust due to China giving Nukes to crazy dictators and Muslim Terrorists! So sad how history is going to repeat itself.

Khmer was recognised by the UN, and supported dirrectly or indirrectly by many countries. USA supported the khmer Rouge/pol pot as they were opposed to the Vietnamese communists. The CIA secretly sponsored the Khmer through front Aid organisations set up in Thailand, which were run by the Thai Army, and the CIA. The aid money was used for chineses weapons which in turn were used for murder.

Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge were able to gain the recognition of 63 countries as the true government of Cambodia. The seat for Cambodia was subsequently given to the Khmer Rouge by the UN. USA did support Pol pot almost immediately after he fled to Thailand. A whitehouse report was leaked stating that usa gave 87 million in unrestricted funding for Pol Pot/KR between 1980 and 1986. This doesn't include international aid, that was managed and distriuted by the CIA to Pol POt.

Lol, the United Nations was able to recognize the Khmer Rouge is because China was supporting it. The US State Department absolutely did not go with China wishes. Bill Clinton wanted a War Tribunal Trial against the Khmer Rouge but China on the United Nations vetoed all propositions to set it forth!

Why do you fail to consider that other countries including your beloved America conspired to get Pol Pot and his thuglings back into power.
