I saw this ship at the grain elevator but I didn't get a chance to film it sailing in or out so nice job and thanks. I am also hoping that canadiantimberwolf1 is able to get those tapes transfered. Great conversation-I would hate to lose the salties but I would miss lake trout and lake Superior salmon more.

When I get back too Canada, one thing i am going too do is get back into Ship Watching. i will also be placing all the videos i have of the Locks back in the 80's and 90's onto disc before and ((I PRAY)) the tapes are still good and transferable. But on them i have the Scott Misner and Auther B Homer, AlgoSoo and Cen and God so many others from that time. Like i say,I just pray that the tapes are still good. take care and I hope you can get out for some winter tie-up shoots during the winter.
@cwazymbfan .. Unfortunately..NO...I was out shooting still one winter and when I got up too Port Colbourne I actually thought I was dreaming...There right in front of me was what I thought was the SS Edmund Fitzgerald...I swear.. I was so awed by the sight that too this day it still gives me shivers down my spine and stands the hair up..LOL. But I did get to shoot a few pictures of her before she was disassembled. I will get some on my camera and load them onto my computer for you too see.
I agree, but I also feel, that winter freeze ups could then allow for upper lake storage and say in Owen Sound or Collingwood and then train delivery too the eastern depots for deliveries over seas. Your right also,if because of the closures of the Big Steel Plant like Bethlehem and Hamilton the Iron Ore from Quebec would actually see less traffic.
At special designated points. I know also that there is a very very big find in Quebec of Iron Ore and as Superior reserves deplete, they should now be considering a 5TH or 6TH redo of The Welland Canal too allow for the 1,000 plus footers from the upper lakes and traverse the lower lakes as well. Who knows,I have heard of plans for expansion of The Welland Canal, but nothing is happening I guess from the recession so far.
cwazymbfan, as much as it is cool see foreign boats in our waters, it really does peeve me off because of irresponsible ship owners that dumped their blast into our waters and bring in creatures that are not indigenous too our waters such as the Zebra Muscle.Even today i wish they would only allow such vessels as far as Halifax and just allow The Great Lakes Ships too deliver too storage places that we can load onto overseas carriers.

@canadiantimberwolf1 I'd absolutely love to see those. Do you have the Homer underway?

@canadiantimberwolf1 I agree completely with you. I'd love to see that because it would keep more ships sailing.

@canadiantimberwolf1 However, I also think that it would probably make Great Lakes ports even less competitive and probably dry a lot of traffic up.
