@tigerlily46514 THANKYOU. Glad you liked it. yes i am very lucky they are very happy dogs, sadly though we lost Jaffa in August but the other two are still really happy, loving having fun. x
Hi very impressed with your video. I need some advice on my 9 month dog. He’s excellent at recall, expect when he see’s another dog, then he’s OFF to play! When he’s on the lead and see’s a dog he’ll sit, lay down, stare and refuse to move dying to go off and play. I cant seem to break his focus, I’ve tried squeaky toys, food, running the opposite way calling him and nothing seems to work. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
@EnglishSaint1 Hi thanks. sorry havent got back to you before as i had a lot of personal grief. Dont forget to reward regularly to get the behaviour well learnt, many people dont use rewards enough! Have you got a friend you could walk with and have play sessions with so that you could practice, recalling and sending away to play? I do a lot of work starting at home where i let them play and then ask them to stop or recall, reward and send them away to play again.
@VTECsqznN2O Thankyou..yes we are very lucky that all our walks are through fields like that..some have livestock in others dont but as mine are trained to walk through livestock and ignore them they can stay off lead and enjoy:))
I am already using a couple of your ideas and will definitely use the ones new to me.
They are making our walks fun and developing a happy dog with consistent recall. I share my life with a 2 year old cocker spaniel and typical to the breed she loves to go exploring and "hunting" out interesting smells.
Hi, i have just rescued a 9 month old kelpie x, she doesn't respond to her name and she is very timed (just wondering what we could do to help her learn her name?) I also have a 2 year old alaskan malamute which is in dog training and is at the top, she is good doing the off-lead recall and loves going to the beach. Im afraid that if i let her off lead she will run and never come back. PLEASE HELP WITH SOME IDEAS thankyou so much :)
@MyaandKoda Hi if you check out the rest of my vids..i have one on 'Hand targeting' i recommend this as one to get your dog started with...as it can work very well as a visual that they just think oh i know what you want now. Then there are the 'Attentiveness to you' series of vids...i REALLY recommend you watch these, as they explain all about how to get focus and how they learn their names. I also never skimp on rewards and especially not when they are just learning behaviours.. gd luck...
@Ahmenti If your dog has got a strong scavenger instinct then this should help stimulate and channel this instinct into a more acceptable form. If scavenging is put on cue and the dog is allowed to scavenge at acceptable times their desire to scavenge at other times should reduce. I would also teach a good 'leave it cue, to help with this learning. check out my scavenger hunt recall games vid another way to help stimulate and focus your dog:)
Great video! I'll try these ideas with my dogs! I'm also very impressed by how you've trained your dogs to stay so calmly while you train and play with one of them.
@Elviah123 Thankyou...cause i have three, four at one point they have always learnt from young to wait for their turn and been rewarded regular for this. glad it has give you some ideas..they really love these fun games..i even do these exercises with my cat..who loves it too..though moves a bit slower than the dogs..lol!
Great video! I'll try these ideas with my dogs! I'm also very impressed by how you've trained your dogs to stay so calmly while you train and play with one of them.
Great video! I'll try it next time I go out with my dogs! I'm also very impressed by how you've trained your dogs to stay so calmly while you train and play with one of them.
Brilliant, Kath. Some great ideas in there, as usual, which I'll start with Rocky. Thanks so much for making and sharing these vids. Your relationship with your dogs is something for us all to aspire to :-). Sian.
Amazing -I'm going to try all of these! But how did you teach your dogs to go TO then AROUND the cattle feeder? You didn't throw a treat out there, so I presume they're responding to your different body/hand signals, right?
@fiocified Excellent glad they are going to be of use. Thankyou. i started near the items first then gradually built up the distance. yes they are responding to my body cues...check out my vids Hand touch training & directional work ideas think they will help you more on how to do this:)) There may be some more interesing titbits in the other vids i have posted as well:))
@plumwoodposse Thankyou yes it is gorgeous here we are soo lucky, lots of off lead walking and plenty of oppoutunity for fun...in fact i made a vid or two on finding things to have fun with on your walks:))) hope you enjoy them too:))
WOW! These are awesome ideas! I can see how these will really help my dogs learn their names, and give us lots and lots of ways to just have some fun together. Thank you all so much for sharing this!
this is An Amazing Video ! I'm teaching Roxy to heal next to me and to as well walk of leash so i'm so POSITIVE that these recalls wil be fun for my little Rockin Roxy :D Thanks For Sharing both such a helpful and GREAT video ..
@musicofnote1 Its amazing how much excitement and how quicker your recalls become with just adding a few of these exercises into your everyday walk. Glad you liked:)
Great video! I'm impressed with your creativity. However, I realised that you often throw treats on the ground for your dogs. I have a question on that. Is it ok that my dog does not see the treat and was searching around for treat?
@newbear95 Hi if your dog is not used to treats been thrown for it, then start with something highly visable like cubes of cheese or chicken. Try the games at home first where they will be more noticable on the carpet..then once your dog understands progress this to outside. If your dog does not see the treat then let it search for it and recall as soon as you notice yr dog eating it. Set your dog up for success at all times:) hope this helps.
@Parenchym Thankyou..they are conditioned to wait calmly as puppies when they first come into my house. The pup is trained first then restrained by a lead on its bed while i work the others in turn. While i am working the others i am also regularly rewarding the puppy for staying on its bed. Now as soon as i start working a dog in the field the others just drop and wait without been asked, each will have a turn and each will be rewarded for waiting.
Great games! It is so helpful to have your dog believe coming back to you is just as fun as anything else. How else are we to compete with all the excitement the world has to offer?? *****
inspirational!

My dog is a real scavenger though- I worry that these would only encourage him to find and eat things off the ground? Any thoughts or advice?
