I dunno if I'd go that far. It is epic, and better than recent QOTSA, but I wouldn't say it's better than them as a whole. Definitely better than Nirvana or Foo Fighters though, to me.

what kind of bass or guitar is jones using

Jones is playing a 12 string bass - It's actually 6 string with octaves paired for each string. The bass is made my Hugh Manson who makes all his instruments. The body is made of graphite and the neck has built in LED lights that he turns on occasionally to see the frets. He plays the bass through two SWR SM-900 heads, each running through a 4 x 10 cab and a 1 x 15 cab. Jones also has a 10 string version that is a little lighter.

He played all of them at the show, 4,8,10and 12 string basses, a flat slide style bass, 8 string guitar and keyboards. I haven't seen anything close to that since the last time I saw Geddy Lee.
