This sounds like every social group I've ever been in. It's totally true how people don't wish to feel the discomfort of disagreeing with the group. Just this last semester in college I questioned the claims of a writer in the 18th century and threw his entire writing into question but my entire class started getting pissed at me and yelling at me. They completely ignored the points of question I brought up and immediately assumed I was wrong.

the cult i was involved with was a 12 step NA group. If I sed the wrong word or didn't "recover" in a way that pleased the "old timers" I was crticized for "not having recovery" and if I left the promise was that I would die- after suffering or being in jail or the mental hospital. that was the only choice- stay or leave and die. and if i get offended during my stay its my fault! fuck- NA sucked! got over my addiction and NA is NOT a place to gather new friends!!! XD HAHA Im truely free now
