I played baritone sax in high school jazz band. This was one of our favorite charts. It was a real crowd pleaser during performances. Woody made some really great contributions to jazz, I really like his style. Thanks for posting.
....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
I played bass in h.s. jazz band before going professional. i played this arrangement in 1978. brings back a lot of memories!!! my 1978 Precision Bass through an old blonde Fender Bassman amp the school had. wow.
Played Trumpet on this song in Stage Band in 1975 and got to hear it Live by Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd in 1978 while attending Auburn University!! Thx for the Post!!!
We also played this is stage band in 1975. I played the soprano sax part on tenor, right before I bought my first soprano sax. I was so used to playing the solo on tenor, we kept it that way.
Thanks for posting this awesome video! I met Woody in Houston in 77. He was one of the nicest guys you could meet. I wonder who is playing lead. When I saw him in Houston, Jay Sollenberger had just joined the band.
