  • good sound.

  • Funny, die hard Star Wars fans still cant believe George Lucas directed this movie.

  • Outstanding classic song!

  • Bob Falfa and 4 of his friends didn't like this.

  • Needs more cowbell...oops I mean Kazoo.

  • Love it!

  • 1:24 cop fail

  • Great song and great scenes from one of my favorite movies of all time. American Graffiti. Good Stuff.

  • ......hey Carl.....SCRATCH THAT!!!!!

  • Yes, this is the original version which has been overshadowed greatly by the Beach Boy's cover but this version is way better.

  • I loved this too, when I was a teenager, Happy days.

  • The Regents really rock. Great original version and awesome sax solo!!!

  • How things happen....... It's amazing that such a great track was recorded as a last minute thought, to use up session time (a session that until they did this one was going nowhere).

  • Isnt it funny that American Graffiti was susposed to be 1962, and this song came out in 1966.

  • @woodzo40

First, this is The Regents' version that came out in 1961.

You're talkin bout Beach Boys' cover that came out in December 1965

  • @ElectricGuitarManPL Thanks for that i didnt know. Nobody played music like that being born in 1980.

  • Scrubs version owns this one for sure

  • This is the real deal, the original - much better than the Beach Boys' version IMO.

  • Not bad for three takes and ten minutes work.

This has the sound of Rock & Roll at it's roots.

    No stero for the orignal

Big bucks if you got it on the Cousins label

  • umm the beach boys /jan and dean did this in the studio not meant to be recorded but someone recorded so it be

  • To those who are comparing this to the Beach Boys version: the Beach Boys version was done for an album called Party! which was essentially done for contractual obligations and was basically an informal get-together in the studio with friends etc jamming on acoustic guitars (and using ashtrays for drums). Brian didn't want it released as a single but it still went to #2 in the charts. The Regents version is properly produced (which the BB version was never intended to be). I like both.

  • The Beach Boys butchered this song

  • Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran! lol

  • This is way better than the beach boys version.

  • The promise of the 1950s was the American economy tripled; and this turned into culture icon movies such as the movie American Graffiti: Everyone had their hardtime, employment, and troubles; but because of the economic growth, it seemed better than the Great Depression and World War II of a generation before them. The Last Picture Show is another good theme, my family is from there; metaphoric speaking, down to the red dirt roads.

  • The B side of this was great..anyone remember it? and they were from the Bronx!

  • @Billrabatin The B side was "I'm So Lonely" written by Sal Como. The A side "Barbara Ann" was recorded in 1958. In 1961 when it was released the Regents had already broken up. A group was put together to finish the album and do public appearances.

  • The bside of this was agreat tune, anyone remember it?

  • A Great doo wop number. The Regents do it great and The Beach Boys' version has its own flavor, done in their style.

  • ha are you serious? I can appreciate the Regents' version since they were the originals, but this doesn't come close to the Beach Boys' cover only 4 years later.

  • Don't forget this song was done at a studio & the Beach Boys was done at a party. But it does blow the Boys away

  • Wow, I never liked this song untilI heard this version when I was about 7 or 8 years old. American Graffiti was on televison, and my mom taped it for me because I already liked old rock n roll and old cars and all that stuff. I watched it over and over and over again for years! Anyway, I remember loving this version of this song instantly. Esp. the sax solo! Im only 29.

  • This makes the Beach Boys cover sound sooo amateur. This is the real deal.

  • @Building529 ohh yaa

  • @Building529 Now did you mean that the Beach Boys version sounded like the guys singing it around a campfire after a couple beers, or that it was poorly sung?

Before you flame on, I think both are spectacular, but were going for different sounds, cos the Beach Boys knew that they couldn't do a straight cover of something this high quality.

  • @Building529

now im gonna school you the beach boys recording of this song wasnt supposed to be released it was recorded unknown to them when they were drinking after a concert and started singing this song and jan and dean were in the studio also which most people ignore they were all goofing off in the studio and some techyy guy decided to record it so get the F*** off the beach boys

  • @Building529

Amateur? Think your a bit confused there mate.

  • i heard Michael Savage has a friend that played in The Regents

  • cant believe i still haven't watched this movie

  • @mexicanpowerputo

    movies-links(.)tv

  • Gutsy and almost erotic!

When it was first played in NYC, we didn't know how to dance to it at the CYO dances so we improvised with our arms and torsos; by pure coincindence I'm sure, the moves all came back three years later nationally as the `Jerk.'

You folks are right about keeping your vinyl records; even if you just look at each of your '45's, they'll give you years of endless nostalgia.

    Thanks a lot.

  • This song when played from its original 45, sounds like it was made in some ones garage.

No sophistication just a raw sound of rock and roll of its time.

And if you have it on the Cousins label in good shape, you could get a few hundred bucks for it.

But it would have had to survive a lot of parties from back in the early sixties.

    Thanx for sharing :-)

  • Yeah, but selling precious vinyl records like that is silly, I would certainly keep them and listen to them, the soft crackles and squeaks of a vinyl record are just as part of the music as the instruments, I say.

  • A most bitchin' song and movie! Thanks Duke!
