  • Thanks you Sir Gavin, another awesome tutorial

  • I bow to you Master Gavin!!!! Absolutely awesome!!! Can't wait to try it myself :)

  • Im having a problem on the "stoke part" of this video tutorial... I was trying to blend the layer's inner strokes in the background using Overlay but nothing happened, the inner stokes stays the same, it stays black... But the other Blending Modes worked, the Color, Saturation, Hue, Exclusion, Difference, Lighten Color, Linear Dodge, Color Dodge, Screen, and Lighten. I picked Lighten since that it has the closest effect to what I saw in this video but I'm not sure if that was ok or not.

  • Impressive what you can do with a couple of very simple pictures. Terrific tutorial as usual. You are very good at explaining things, so that even a noob like me (and a non native english speaker) can understand it. Thank you.

  • I'm very impressed! I learned so much! I had to go back and watch various parts again, because it's so new to me. And I'll probably need to check back in the future. But for sure, there was a lot of stuff I never knew that you showed me in this video.

  • GR8

  • what is the easiest way to make a GIF?

  • Excellent.. thanks Gav.

  • How do you change the colour of the stroke?

  • Great instruction as always! Thank you!

  • Great work. Nice tutorial. Thanks, Gavin!

  • Love your PhotoShop tutorials,Gavin. Bring more, good sir!

  • Fantastic !

  • Wow!!!! what a nice aportation. Thank you Gavin.

  • Nice vid as always Gavin!

  • Fantastic tutorial, as always. Keep them coming.

  • Nice tutorial thanks . But to me the frames around the leaves are too sharp .

  • I wish Adobe would see fit to reintroduce being able to cycle through blend modes on the Mac version again. No idea why they changed it, it's amazingly annoying. They do the same in Illustrator too for going through fonts. Again, you used to be able to do it with the cursors, but no longer. You can still do it in Photoshop and InDesign though, so why they're inconsistent here I have no idea!

On a related note, I love the result, Gavin, though I'd have maybe reduced the opacity on the top a tad.

  • Just out of interest how did you come about the name " gavtrain "

  • @hikinguphigh

am guessing its short for Gavin's training

  • Excellent and explanative as always!! Thank you for your details and tuts. Cheers!

  • more photo challenges! :)

  • Wow this is a really good tutorial! Thanks you and keep it up you are very talented!

  • Great video! =)

  • nice tut Gav. even works in pse9... thanks for the upload.

  • I always get excited when I get a video of yours in my subscriptions!

  • Why not use a layer mask on the color burn layer?

  • @reptedjess I'm guessing it's because Gavin set the colour range of the brush to only effect midtones.

If you use a layer mask, it will mask all of them I think.

  • @reptedjess That's the great thing with Photoshop, there's many ways to achieve essentially the same result, just depends on what you feel more comfortable doing.

  • @TalesOfWar A clipping mask is non-destructive though

  • @reptedjess Doesn't matter if you have no intention of changing it later lol.

  • @TalesOfWar oops. I meant layer mask. Yeah, I guess so, but it's easier to fix if you do to much.

  • i like your title:)

  • Ill try it this weekend, thanks.

  • where can i get the background pic?

  • I absolutely Love it!

  • you are so skilled and creative

  • Gavin: You just click here, press that drag this...

You: WHY WON'T THIS THING BLOODY WORK!

  • thank you very much..super video...

  • Excellent!!!Thank you!!!

  • This is great! thanks for the tutorial Gavin! I'm gonna try this today. Perfect for a nice fall afternoon!

  • Let's have some more 15 minute photo challenges, you rarely post videos these days.

  • Thanks Gavin.

  • I do the triptychs using Smart Objects.

Like so, we do not loose any details when scaling the images.

  • Gavin

When you add the warm adjustment layer, you point out that the "stroke" reflects the warmed background. Why does this happen as the stroke you set was inside the images.

  • @hmfc6543 Beacuse the stoke blending mode relects the colour of the layers bleow. So at first the stroke was grey because the texture was grey. Then it was warm as the background texture was warmed in colour.

  • @PhotoGavin

Now that's showing off - answering that quickly. Thanks. I would have thought that the Overlay blend on the stroke - as it was "Inside" - would only have applied to the layer below, and not to all below

  • @hmfc6543 Think I've just worked out why its not what I expected. Am I right that a stroke added as a layer effect behaves differently in this respect to a layer added via Edit> Stroke?

  • wonderful

  • Thanks Gavin, as always a great video. I look forward to your next one.

  • really neat thanks for sharing

  • Thanks that was really great.

Do you know how to use an adjustment layer, levels e.g, if I have 3 layers and only affecting the top layer not the others down?

  • @nova170260 Right Click on the adjustment layer and click Create clipping mask.

  • Gavin - I can't explain with words how much I appreciate your videos, They are by far the most informative I have seen in regards to the topics you teach us. If you had a seminar in my area (Boston Ma, USA) I'm certain I would attend. Thank you, thank you thank you. Keep up the great and incredibly informative work. PS your photos rock as well.

  • =D

  • You're like a PhotoShop genius! Your tutorials are great. You make it so easy for us to learn. Keep up the awesome job Gavin!

  • thanks for the tutorial, i really luv every videos and hope u update it more often so I can learn n improve my skills :)

  • @PhotoGavin thanks

  • omg i LOVE THIS thank you so MUCH !!

  • you may also 'copy layer style' and paste in onto the other selected layers at once. rightclick on the layer's effects brings up the options do do that.

  • Gavin is there a way for you to make a tutorial how to resize my photo in printable form without cropping anything? usually 8x10 pretty much crop my composition? is there a workaround on that? thanks and more power!!!

  • so easy and so FAST!

  • SUPER thank You!

  • awesome! but can you show how to make ir photos?

  • @MrMackan240 There are two video about shooting & editing IR photos on my YouTube channel. A search for "IR photography" should help you find them I think it was week 67.
