this might be my favourite song ever! this performance doesnt do it justice though. this whole concert is great but hilarious at the same time, graham's mic is way too loud, and they all seem to be so very drunk and away to care. they are quite awful actually, but im loving it. thanks for the upload. i love early blur.
Very nice upload but please reconsider your opinion on this song. This one along with the rest of the "Modern life is rubbish" album was Blur at their best.
What's interesting about this is how little this has changed in the past 15 years!
They played this in Manchester on Friday (and apparently at Glastonbury last night) and apart from the addition of some fit inducing strobe lighting at the end, the performance was essentially identical - I think Damon was even using the same Megaphone!
Anyone who's tried to play the guitar part to this using separate effects boxes will be familiar with the quick-step routine involved on OD and tremelo - Coxon makes it look easy. What an awesome guitarist.
There's a light guitar sound (verse) with tremelo alternating on and off, so unless you've got a guy in the back doing it for you you've got to be on the ball with the effects pedal. Then for some of the verse ends, fills and the chorus there's a heavy sound, which needs another footswitch to engage. At a couple of points (as I remember) the sound goes from heavy back to light and also straight into trem, so you need to heel-toe two footswitches at once, unless you've a smartass multi-FX box.
thanks ShakingDog09, i appreciate it!! wow, now i see more clearly why i love this band so much: in many of their tunes are sounds you just don't hear in any other bands'. thanks again.
Wow, thanks for posting this - my first time seeing this one played live - one of my faves from MLIR. Damon looks like a 5-yr-old hopping up and down towards the end, lol. Cheers!!
one of my very favourite blur songs ever...i don't know what it is about this song, but it's just amazing. I love this live version too, it really demonstrates the offbeat nature of early blur...mental. I wish they'd played the end bit as long as it is on MLIR, it goes on for ages and just when you think it's going to end it keeps going and going..and going!
Can someone please post the "Starshaped" documentary here on youtube? I've been searching for it forever and I'd be happy to host the videos if anyone can find them (if they have qualms about hosting them themselves).
amazing

I Love Oily Water and when Damon using the Megaphone i wanna buy one like this.
Absoluttely amazing.
=D

The megaphone makes Damon's vocals sound a bit off on this. The others replicate the sound fine though.
I was very glad over the amount of stuff from MLIR they played at Hyde Park :).

the final is the greatest thing Damon and Coxon made EVER!!! Greetings from Peru, South America!!!

I dont get it with the audience like whenever blur performed they're songs like they're quiet and a few people appluade for them.
and that was a great ending of that song with the mega phone.
