  • amazing

  • they performed this much better in 2009 at Hyde Park

  • la mejor canciòn de modern life is rubbish, lejos. baterìa + bajo, grrreit!

  • damon should be dounling up grahams vocal bits, this song is epic

  • Such an epic ending, one of my favorite outros to any song. Ever.

  • NEVER liked this song much? What the hell, this is a very good song :O especially the chaos in the end.

  • I love the climax in this song it is mellow, sad and great. Modern life is rubbish is great

  • fave blur song. modern life is rubbish, a hugely under rated album

  • wtf why don't people like this song? the chorus is epic

  • you can get it on Netflix!

  • fucking love this song

  • what kind of megaphone is this?

and is he stuffing something inside it to make it less loud?

  • i love graham's vocal part!

    2:45 humping the megaphone, lol

  • I Love Oily Water and when Damon using the Megaphone i wanna buy one like this.

    Absoluttely amazing.

    =D

  • The megaphone makes Damon's vocals sound a bit off on this. The others replicate the sound fine though.

I was very glad over the amount of stuff from MLIR they played at Hyde Park :).

  • the final is the greatest thing Damon and Coxon made EVER!!! Greetings from Peru, South America!!!

  • this might be my favourite song ever! this performance doesnt do it justice though. this whole concert is great but hilarious at the same time, graham's mic is way too loud, and they all seem to be so very drunk and away to care. they are quite awful actually, but im loving it. thanks for the upload. i love early blur.

  • That concert was the best I've ever seen, blur were so entertaining but the crowd were utter shite

  • what effect is graham playing? reverb?

  • Comment removed

  • they played it at Hyde park

  • Very nice upload but please reconsider your opinion on this song. This one along with the rest of the "Modern life is rubbish" album was Blur at their best.

  • What's interesting about this is how little this has changed in the past 15 years!

They played this in Manchester on Friday (and apparently at Glastonbury last night) and apart from the addition of some fit inducing strobe lighting at the end, the performance was essentially identical - I think Damon was even using the same Megaphone!

  • Grande canzone..... una delle mie preferite di Modern Life.. poi nel finale la chitarra di Ghrahm rende grandioso questo pezzo!

  • greatness

  • What's wrong trucuku1982. you never liked this song much? you gotta be deaf, man

  • Anyone who's tried to play the guitar part to this using separate effects boxes will be familiar with the quick-step routine involved on OD and tremelo - Coxon makes it look easy. What an awesome guitarist.

  • please explain this effect to a guitar novice a little more in depth?

  • There's a light guitar sound (verse) with tremelo alternating on and off, so unless you've got a guy in the back doing it for you you've got to be on the ball with the effects pedal. Then for some of the verse ends, fills and the chorus there's a heavy sound, which needs another footswitch to engage. At a couple of points (as I remember) the sound goes from heavy back to light and also straight into trem, so you need to heel-toe two footswitches at once, unless you've a smartass multi-FX box.

  • thanks ShakingDog09, i appreciate it!! wow, now i see more clearly why i love this band so much: in many of their tunes are sounds you just don't hear in any other bands'. thanks again.

  • yeah at about 2:34 is a good eg.

  • I love this song. Reminds me of My Bloody Valentine. Graham's guitar in the outro sounds so "raw". Nice!

  • Perhaps my fav blur song, too. Speaks to a part of me, etc that few other songs do...

  • OMG!!! this song is the BEST! of modern life!

  • And the audience is a cunt.

  • Wooooooooooooooooo woooooooooooooooo woooooooooooooooo wooooooooooooooooo

    Love it.

  • The chorus? At 1:18 for example?Me too(but i prefer the last one)!!

  • Yeah i meant the police siren/megaphone thing at the end.....sounds cool.

But the song in general is sweet....one of my favourites from modern life.

  • Wow, thanks for posting this - my first time seeing this one played live - one of my faves from MLIR. Damon looks like a 5-yr-old hopping up and down towards the end, lol. Cheers!!

  • Brilliant song. Graham's guitar is magical... Thanks for uploading. Cheers!

  • my fav blur song too! so tight live arent they?! all hail graham coxon, greatest british guitarist of his generation!

  • I like the song.

  • O.O o.o

  • my favourite Blur's song

  • absolute magic!!

  • Wow!!! I hated this song on MLIr, but now I've seen this, I just changed my mind...This song is insanely awsome live!!!

  • one of my very favourite blur songs ever...i don't know what it is about this song, but it's just amazing. I love this live version too, it really demonstrates the offbeat nature of early blur...mental. I wish they'd played the end bit as long as it is on MLIR, it goes on for ages and just when you think it's going to end it keeps going and going..and going!

  • Give me a live "Villa Rosie" and I'll be happier still.

  • I'm baffled as to why they never played that live.

  • another fine song from avery FINE ENGLISH album. modern life FUCKIN RULE! its only a early morning dream and the whole world will be ok!!!

  • This is a phenomenal song!

One of my all time favourites, NEVER found a live copy of it

    So thanks!

  • Can someone please post the "Starshaped" documentary here on youtube? I've been searching for it forever and I'd be happy to host the videos if anyone can find them (if they have qualms about hosting them themselves).

  • i think i saw it in here a few months ago....maybe they deleted it....

  • There are bits and pieces of it on youtube, but I have yet to see the complete movie...

  • delighted this is on utube - thanks

  • Great!!!This is one of my favourite songs by Blur and I really thank you for sharing it.

What about Damon...he was always used to sing cracked by drugs and we can hear it.... ;-)

  • Better than the 'starshaped' version, yes, but this song is better suited to studio. MLiR is one of my fave albums of all time.

  • Great post

  • YEAAAAHHH

    WHAT A GOOD BOOTLEG!!!

FINALLY A DIFFERENT VERSION FROM "STARSHAPED"

    sorry for scream..hehehe

but im pretty enthusiastic for this upload

    THANKS!

  • It isn't a bootleg. But still this is awesome :DD

  • This is one of my favorites, too - in fact it was my favorite song for a few years. Great live version!

  • this song rock

  • I dont get it with the audience like whenever blur performed they're songs like they're quiet and a few people appluade for them.

and that was a great ending of that song with the mega phone.

  • they were opening for Duran Duran...I think the crowd was in shock! My guess is that it wasn't their thing.

  • (as to why the crowd aren't that enthused)

  • i looked for this video a long time ago and i thought that i was never gonna see oily water live version!

    thanks so much!

a coño si hablas castellano hjeje

    un saludo, esta genial

  • de nada :)

  • Probably my favourite song from my favourite blur album.

  • really? not many ppl like this...

  • heheh are you sure?

i had a traumatic experience with it.

'til the first time i've ever heard it, i cant stop it since.

  • Yeah its one of my favorites, too. The second half of oily water and the segue to the start of miss america is amazing.

  • love it as well

  • Yeah, the most important part of the album.

  • same here

  • pasame tu msn sos de chile XD

    muy bueno el video

    sabes que es una mierda

    este youtube por

    cerrarte tu cuenta 4 veces

    chau

  • gracias

  • Always thought this song goes on for waaaay to long but in this version damon kinda makes the ending interesting-ish.

  • Such a great song by my favourite band...well them and battles.
