I was walking on Little Ave. when it came through, Got to see it pass by standind between the Allendale Rec, Center and the Innisdale track. My buddy I was with managed to make it into the rec center while I just stood there and watched stuff flying in the air off in the distance.
This brings back so many memories. Was the scariest day of my life! We were driving a yellow Mustang and by the time we got to the hospital it was green from the grass. Never looked at another storm the same again.
I live in Barrie right now, and I'm doing a project on this tornado. I never knew how big it was, since I wasn't alive when it hit, and I feel so bad for the people who had to experience this horrible disaster. I have lived in Barrie all my life, and I hope another one doesn't occur. My fingers are crossed. I don't want anyone to experience one of these again...
my mom was walking home from high shcool and she saw the tornado pick up 1 kid and after she saw that she ran home as fast as she could she was glad her family was ok and her pets and herself im glad i was not born yet fwww! so sad
You can actually see my brother Carl in the very beginning with a cover over him and he is dazed and in shock. Unfortunately my other brother Luke was with him and died....may he rest in peace. There was a third person in the car with them and last I had heard he survived but was badly injured...hope your doing well today!
I sure miss my brother Luke to this day and think of him all the time....miss you brother.
At 7:21 there are people looking through the damage in my neighborhood as well as my house. At 7:52 my house has flowers around it from after the funeral.
at 1:08, my friend Paula's mom and brother were remembering her. She was at my house when the tornado hit. My mom and brother died as well. We lived on Crawford st. I was left in a coma for 2 weeks, on life support with a fractured skull and broken jaw, punctured lung. 25 Years later, I still can't watch this.

I was born in barrie in 1987. But my family did not live in barrie until I was around 4 years old. But from the age of 4 I have been living in barrie all my life. Its horrible to think of what happened to so many people in my hometown so many years ago.
was a sad day i was 10 yrs old camping with my family At cedar park camp grounds at littlelake drive and duckworth when the winds picked up and your in a tent its like being in a wind tunnel. we lost our family dog that day he was outside the tent and ran away before we could get him, major damage that day, you can still see the after math stuff onn the 400 north of bayfeild exit
I was 17 when this happened. I was 200kms away on a farm in Cobourg Ontario, sitting on my deck. Suddenly the wind pick up and the sky turned green. 200kms away! I didn't know what a green sky meant back than. I learned that day. It was terrible for these people. I can't imagine was it was like being at ground zero. So short a time and so much destruction. Life is so fragile.
Me and my sister weren't born yet, my parents lived in Toronto, thank God. But now we live in Barrie and I can't even believe only 24 years ago my city was hit by this terrible storm. Now when ever there's a bad thunder storm I grab all my stuffed animals and hide in the food celler in my basement and my family laughs at me but then I remind them of this tornado!!
Rest in peace Grandma. Your house on Patterson Avenue was full of grace, love and enjoyment. The nasty monster took your life and your house. You will never be forgotten, not ever.
I was down near Whitby, Ontario back then (I was 10). At the Brooklyn Fair we saw huge black clouds coming from the north. Baseball sized hail came down as everyone raced to a shelter. We never had a tornado down our way, but we knew someone was getting hit bad (Tottenham, Barrie). Nasty.
This is a day I will live in my mind forever, I have lived in Barrie for all of my life , and that day was one that will stick in my mind forever, you never know how precious life is until you live through something like this.
Thanks for posting this documentary. It's excellent. Very well done. I remember the horrible horrible storm that brought the Barrie Tornado. I was 13 years old when it occured. I lived in Mississauga though. We thought there was going to be a tornado where we lived but didn't understand how bad it really was in Barrie until later. Rumor had it that someone's phone from Barrie was found in Orangeville. Not sure what was true but a storm like that produces a ton of rumors. Crazy things happen.
i remember this day very well, i was 6 years old. many of my friends lost people to this tornado. i can only imagine if a tornado hit this area now seeing as how much its built up since 1985.
i wasnt born, but from the looks of it, thats pretty creepy b/c now i live in Barrie and last year during the summer i was at a friends house and the sky was like black and green, and there was intense wind, and off and on it would be cold and rainy and then hot and rainy, it was pretty scary, i used to live in California
i live on patterson rd. in Barrie, and I lived through this tornado, it was definately a terrible act of nature, we had a crawlspace that we hid in, and we were able to survive down there thank god
my mom was walking home from shcool that year she almost got picked up by it

I still remember the Global TV news talking about two major cold fronts that passed through the Barrie/Lake Simcoe area.
So sad about the loss of life.

Like I said, I remember that storm because my family and I were at the Brooklyn fair. Black clouds came from the north. Hail like baseballs. Nasty.
