I live in downtown Oslo right by the kebab shop that all the Russ kids go to at 1am. Watching them stumbling around completely drunk, almost getting hit by cars and the tram, puking on the sidewalk while their buses blast music that wakes up everyone in the neighborhood, I don't understand why their parents allow it and why society in general continues to accept and even encourage it. I've lived in Norway for years and like it a lot, but Russ still seems like the dumbest thing in the world.

The "Big Day" seems to allow young people,who are entering adulthood, to release their pent-up rebelliousness in an effort to prepare them for the adult world. It lets them constantly party until they see how pointless it is and that they're wasting time. That's my take on it, anyone else?

The film is in my eyes nothing more than a portrayal of the Norwegian tradition of celebrating the end of thirteen years of school. In Bulgaria we have kind of the same thing! But in a more grotesk manner: Gradates dress up with business Costumes and Evening Dresses, then pass through the whole town shouting, counting to 12 an cursing. Than they get to a big restaurant, or any place able to fit more than 200-300 people. Get So drunk so they have to walk on 4 feet and roam/shout across the town, often driving dead drunk, until the morning.

In the morning they go to their school and give carrots and alcohol to the youngsters!
