Worked like a charm! I also removed the pad. The one shown in some videos was missing in mine but I could tell that one had been there. But it was the ground causing the problem. I used an X-Acto knife to gently peel back the foil and pressed it down the back of the screw post. As others have said, be careful when lifting off the cover. Lift the front and slowly pull the cover forward to avoid breaking the latches.
Good video as it shows the isssue IS grounding indeed, and only one way to solve it then. 1215p here, I cracked it open and covered in tape the touchpad's silver sticker but left it's golden window uncovered (grounding point), and then ensured the other side's ground contact shim touches it (but not the sticker) when palm rest is re-assembled. Good luck!
I'm having this exact problem with my 1215n and I finally decided to open mine up to remove that piece of foam. Upon opening the touchpad panel, I found out that neither the ground sheet around the screw nor those two foam pads are present on my computer. Any other ideas on what could be going wrong with my touchpad?
This problem can be caused by removing the touchpad with force, and damaging the connectors along the edge. This causes a grounding issue because the touchpad is not sitting correctly. I solved it by wrapping a wire around a screw into the large grounding plate, and then using conductive epoxy (from FRYS) to connect the other end to the bottom of the touch pad. I glued the wire to the exposed gold rectangle which is positioned over the spring loaded finger of the grounding plate. 100% works
I recently bought the device (Sept-2011) and guess what! Asus removed the bit of foil that appears in your video! However, I have the touchpad problems. I removed the upper squishy silver pad and it seems to have done the job (for the last 3 days at least!). Let's hope it solved!
Can any of you guys refer me to a guide for preventing the breakage of the clips that so many of us tend to snap when disassembling the palm-rest of the 1215B?
Thanks for showing the metal foil contacting the screw hole because just by folding that i've fixed the issue without having to remove the protective foam, which is the solution presented by a lot of people.
Awesome works great!

Thanks for this video. Tried it on my 1215b and touchpad seems to work properly now. Thank you!

Same problem on a new 1215b notepad. I find it ridiculous that they are shipping this with a known factory problem.

Please consider a fixed camera angle and moving the computer parts instead.

@kamakafinikamkam I shot this with mobile phones, sorry for bad quality. But fixing is easy just remove conductive foil on screw hole, that is.

@sfalpha901 I appreciate it! I'll try this later if the problem persists.

I did de-attach the tape making the electrical ground connection to the touchpad. There have not been any problems after that :-)
No hiccups, no running wild, just working perfect!

I'm having the exact same problem. Thanks for posting this video. Would you consider putting a detailed step-by-step procedure on the web?
