His shot is not "textbook"... He doesn't follow through, releases the ball at eye-level, and touches his heels together when he jumps. The only good things about his shot is that his feet are set when he shoots, and he releases the ball quickly to offset his (really) low release point.

There is a standard way of shooting a jumpshot dumbass. Guys like Larry Bird and Reggie Miller who succeed with weird form on their jumpshot are rare. Look around the NBA, on college rosters, at the playground. Chances are the good shooters are good shooters because of their form. Good jumpshot mechanics allow for the most consistent shot with better accuracy. Full extension (follow through), elevation, feet squared to the basket, a good arc

There is no exact way to shoot a jumpshot, but there are straightforward guidelines.

Good form helps with consistency and arc. Jumpshot form has a lot to do with scouting. Coaches look at form and the stat sheet to see if the guy is a good shooter. Rarely do players with a bad form and a bad percentage become good shooters in the NBA. However, shooters with good form but with maybe a few small hitches and a bad percentage have a much better chance of becoming good shooters in the NBA. Guys like Larry Bird are the outliers, not the average.
