  • Oh, Gramma, how I miss you!

  • Atheist ppl are LOST ppl...

  • Atheist bread is better.

It has no bullshit in it.

  • This looks like jew bread. Why would christians make jew bread on a religious holiday?

  • i love this recipe but some of the ingredient is hard to find in my country...

  • ilove you chef john!!

  • sounds delicious will try to make it

  • Fabulous!!!! Definitely going to try this!

  • Boy, does that bring back memories of my grandmother and great aunt. It was made the same way (sans icing & lemon, however) and it makes the BEST TOAST YOU WILL EVER TASTE! I haven't made it in years, but you have made me think about making some now.

  • Where do I get the recipe to this Easter bread?

  • @MichaelABC101 on his website, foodwishes(dot)com...

  • Where do I get the recipe to this Easter bread?

  • LOL! Tomarrow i make easter bread

    ^_^

  • @xMoonaticDestiny no such thing you fool!

  • 2:06

  • nvm i get it the yeast hahah i'm smart ppl you don't even cook it only set it

  • not joking ,really 12 hour seriously i really want to make but ...why 12 hours?

  • @xMoonaticDestiny you're joking right? of course you put however much glaze you want, it's not rocket science.

  • Asian girls online # lushfmlk.info #

  • this guy is the best

  • 12 hours? Wtf ? That job can be done in 1-2 most.

  • anus extract?!

  • @JustnCas3 Anise, tastes like black licorice.

  • thumbs up if you think chef john has hair X3

  • I to once worked at the Bread factory but i got sick of the dough and went on the loaf

  • @xMoonaticDestiny you pussy

  • This is a tradition in my families house!! I watched my grandmother make this every easter, and she would actually make the bread into baskets with the easter egg baked inside. I myself never liked the easter egg one. But the bread itself was always really delicious!! And smells so wonderful. Thank you for sharing this recipe John. :D

  • somehow you make everything seem so delicious!

  • your videos are like porn.

  • I love the smell of freshly baked bread :-)

  • perfect amount of glaze.

  • your easter bread looks like a chopped up tounge

  • woop

  • damn 12 hours really nice otherwise

  • So a few eggs, some lemon zest, lemon extract, anise seeds, oil, a few eggs and...a bag of sugar. Cover the result with some sugar frosting to create your own sugar bomb...I mean traditional easter bread.

  • that looks sooooo yummy! too bad my oven is borken :(

  • 12 hours is too much

  • I was like "Ah okay, eggs....anise seeds....lemon zest...oil...OH FUCK THAT'S A LOT OF SUGAR! O_O" A whole...mountain..

  • Good to see you getting featured! Everyone should see your awesome recipes.

  • mmmmm the pink looks so yummy

  • i had bread just like this when i went to germany. they serve it without the icing for breakfast every morning

  • poor dough... omg that was alot of suger!!!

  • poor dough...

  • How ironic that Easter Bread is just Challah with pink icing on top. The Christians stole bread AND monotheism from the Jews!

    lol

  • I was brought up in an Italian household and my grandmother who came from Calabria made Italian Easter Bread every year. Though our recipe isn't like this, but is just a sweet bread that is braided in a circle with colored Easter eggs baked into the bread and had an optional white glaze. Don't forget it depends on what part of Italy you come from as what is traditional. Dishes are different and some are only traditional to a certain province.

  • that's probably bc you're a moron :)

  • Uhmm just to say something. This kind of "bread" is made in Bulgaria for easter and even the way you brade it is the same we made it. this is not the Italian pannetone.

  • That is because Panetone is for CHRISTMAS traditionally, just saying. This is Italian Easter Bread...I use to have it all the time as a kid...

  • May you die a long slow death in prison for 50 years for trying to make this bread. You have disgraced Italy and the entire world for your futile efforts of trying to recreate an Italian tradition...... Just kidding, this bread kicks ass!

  • LOL you ALMOST sounded like all the pricks that write stupid comments cause they think they know what they're talking about hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • you made my day yum i need to try it

  • Sexy and delicious :)

  • nefer he said that its his family's traditional recipe -__-

  • whereas we have it in hungary (except the frosting) called "fonott kalács" and we believe it is as old as time itself :)

  • Are you in the one shaped like a boot?

  • looks so good

  • nefer thats pretty arrogant that you think that its not italian because its not yours

  • no pretty arrogant im just itlian and in italy when is easter we dont make sweet bread....yes the look its very good but this is not italian

  • wow!it looks really yummy

  • looks so yum!

  • i made it last night to eat this morning and it was so good!!! seriously some of the best bread i have ever made!

  • Happy Easter

  • yum yum i think i can smell it :)

  • my wife and i agree... you make too many good things.

  • Wootz

  • wow looks so yummy lol

  • Looks yummy Happy Easter!

  • I love you! Can you show us how to make Pecan Pie?

  • Looks awesome!

this might be a very random request.. But i was wondering if you knew a recipe for bread without yeast? I saw it once where someone fermented potatoes? But any bread recipe without yeast would be appreciated... I know someone who has yeast allergies and I would like to make a yeastless bread for them.. thanks!

  • My Favorite is CORNED BEEF HASH!!!

  • John's corned beef hash recipe on here (and on his website) looks tremendous. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't cooked a corned beef lately, but it's my first stop when I bring my next corned beef home from the grocery store...

  • That looks really good, I like the anise idea

  • The anise is OPTIONAL!

My grandmother used to make 8 loaves of Easter Bread every year - due to family demand. Only 1 of them had anise, and this was only because one of my uncles liked the anise flavor. She, my grandfather, and most of the family preferred the non-anise bread.

Also, her Easter Bread was VERY yellow inside. I expect that it was due to her adding extra egg yolks.

So, for those of you who aren't fans of anise, my Italian grandmother never used it for her own recipe.

    Karen

  • thankyou so much for stating that , i hate anise flavored things, jellybeans, cookies, cake,i dont like it .bikaren1980 you are a godsend-the anise is optional, and it will NOT go into my bread, and now this recipe sounds great. THANKYOU!

  • Okay so on the blog the ingredients state 3/4 cups of sugar. On here your suppose to put some sugar in the yeast mixture and sugar in the egg mixture. Is there suppose to be another amount of sugar on the ingredients list or does it not matter. You just divide the 3/4 cups of sugar between the bowls?

  • its just a pinch from the 3/4

  • the 'i dont braid bc i dont really have hair' comment was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it has risen, hallelujah...

  • what is tofu and how would you cook it

  • I absolutely love eggbread~ Maybe my sis will let me use her active yeast (sp?) to make some ^_^

  • worst comment ever.

  • Indeed!

  • I really dont like aniseed-would this recipe work without it or is that the whole point?Any help would be much appreciated!

  • You could probably use another extract. I am going to use Orange extract instead of Anise.

  • wow... ur inspiring me..

    i wanna cook also!

  • dough is nice

  • Not a big braider since you don't really have hair -- LOL!

    Great video, thanks again.

  • looking forward to that icing! =)))) delicious!!!

  • T H A N K S

    AS ALWAYS...

  • does this bread taste sweet? aside from the frosting?

  • i wanted to stick my hands through the screen

  • YUM! Chef John, you should enlighten us with some tips for good dough making. So many times I have tried, I don't know what I do wrong but my bread becomes hard like rock :(

  • you are right, i always think that the yeast doesnt activate or i add too much flour

  • lots of dough on the site

  • Thanks, your amazing!

  • Looks good. I bow down to all bread makers. I do wonder though if threre's a way to flavor the bread some other way. Almond perhaps? (our family hates Anise flavoring)

  • Try sesame oil, that's great

  • Oh my... this looks so good! I'm hungry now! :-)

  • better without the icing, i think.

  • =]!

  • Mmmmmmm

  • wow this looks mad good

  • Questa proprio mi mancava, ma che razza di pane è?

  • when you get enough donations from everyone... please buy a new video camera:)

  • this is the hardest dish you have made so far!!

  • Wow, a lot of Jews on here talking about how it looks like challah. I think it's Passover that makes you think about bread like that. ;D

  • We have that too, we call it Osterstollen :)

  • where are you from? austria? germany?

  • Austria :)

  • Chef John, I will try this recipe after Easter because were heading to Florida!!! Thank you!!!

  • If you don't like anise flavour could you use vanilla instead?

  • good question, I don't care for anise either.

  • it looks like challah, only redone for a christian holliday. I'd eat it though, just give me a week (I can't have bread at the moment)

  • thats chala bread

  • who are u sir flamenco?

  • you should go to hells kitchen!

  • Hmm,,, so the twisting bit is chala? Easy now :D

  • Is the entrie recipe suppose to be on the webiste? I've checked but I don't see it posted. :(

  • will be up in a little while

  • Thank you for the video; it looks like it's a great recipe for the festive treat.

Just a suggestion - add raisins or dried cranberries into the dough, and/or sprinkle poppy seeds over the glaze/frosting, when the bread is ready :)

    Cheers!

  • it's kinda like a dessert huh? since it has the icing coding on it.

  • Its good, Not Too sweet......Goes nicely with a coffee or cup of tea.....imo
