Several record companies tried to "break" many small punk bands back in the early-mid 90s. Green Day had several singles released and re-released before they had a hit. They in no way started a revival, it was started for them. Other bands they tried with were Bad Religion, Pegboy, Seaweed and more that just "slipped". Sad that Green Day were once an OK, pretty cool low-fi band and now.....the new U2. Or so they think...
