You'd have to be an idiot to think you can build muscle just eating protein and not work hard.   • @LifeFitness420 You seem to not get alot of thing by the looks of your replies to people on here. Toddy meant the whole "work hard in the gym" is a GIVEN. As in it is COMMON knowledge. It's like someone telling you the first step to making a sandwhich is get bread....thus the real deal breaker is protein. And 50g perhaps is abit low but based on the average size and weight of a male in the US, even double that amount isnt optimal for muscle growth. 1g per pound of body mass is minimum.

  • Why do bodybuilders (natural) consume so much damn protein and aren't fat. I know some of these athletes and they don't do much more activity than me and yet consume 3 times as much protein. How can you determine just how much protein you need for the activity you are doing??

  • @KickAssNTakeNames being skinny or fat has no direct connection with amount of protein you eat, any excess calories ( regardless from protein, fat, or carbs) will make you gain weight, any deficit will make you lose weight.

  • another thing is that increase intensity (by weight or more reps) does stimulate more muscle growth, a more intense workout does effect that body more so it MAY mean more food to recover, but not necessarily, a good example of this is when i started doing more olympic movements notably clean and jerks, and if I didnt eat more than I did from say a more relaxed day i wouldnt have recovered from that workout, of course time and rest are even more important factors in recovery..

  • 101 % correct, and of course overloading on ANYTHING (veggies included but thats almost as impossible as it is undesirable) will make you fat, of course too little protien would inhibit your recover it doesn't mean you have to eat 10 lbs of meat every dinner, but after a tough work out nothings wrong with a little extra meat that day, better than eating a whole bunch of carbs

  • Humans can't store ingested proteins, humans can't store nitrogen for later use, absolutely all the proteins ingested that won't be used as energy in the immediacy will be secreted, not stored as fat, that's impossible. If I'm wrong please link a scientific text book that explains such phenomenon, because honestly, it would rock my world.

  • @BJJ87 excess protein will turn into Acetyl CoA, which is then converted to fatty acids, which is fats... This is irreversible however because fats can turn into Acetyl CoA, but not back to the amino acids

  • Wouldn't say I entire agree with this.. Eating right is half the battle, working out hard is the other. If you only do one or the other, you're not going to get results. Although if your saying that eating 5000 calories a day and 300 grams of protein for a 150 pound man is not going to be beneficial, yes I agree.

  • @901244tig protein 4 calories, carb 4 calories, fat 8 calories. Excess calories = excess energy = stored energy = fat. So excess protein can mean excess calories, or fat.

  • @f350powerstroke You have to workout before you can rest though. Stressing the muscle is the catalyst. Nutrition and rest are equally, if not more important, but will not cause muscle growth at all on their own.

  • The truth is that if you are getting enough calories from fresh whole foods then you are getting enough protein for anything you want to accomplish.

    You need enough calories to workout with the intensity needed to gain muscle. Overall, assuming high quality food intake, calories, hormones and intensity are going to make 100x more difference than how much and what type of protein you eat.

  • @FletcherHabit 65-100 grams a day is all that's needed. BUT NATURALLY, if you require more calories AND WE"RE TRYING TO LIMIT FATS then more calories will come from protiens and carbs. And this is also for the idiots who read this! :O)

  • I agree that extra protein isnt necessary at all. 12 yrs ago when I 1st started working out I didnt know anything about protein I just worked out hard 4-5 times a week and I was very strong. Then soon as I started to learn about diet I was so obsessed with protein comsumption that I actually lost strength and size becuz I wouldnt workout as hard or at all if I felt I hadn't eaten enough. Now I just eat healthy when Im hungry and workout hard and I look and feel great.

  • more muscle needs more calories. I've gained 60 lbs of muscle and i eat more then when i was 130lbs. If i just trained and consumed the same amount as a 130 lbs person i would not have gained as much muscle PERIOD!

  • More muscle does need more calories but you didnt have to eat like you were 190 when you were 130. That wouldve been too much stress on your digestive system if possible at all . Dont force down food. The bigger you got the hungrier you became. You're hungrier becuz your bigger. When you're full thats all you need. you went from a compact car to a sedan. and just like cars smaller people can accomplish the same tasks with less fuel but the bigger the vehicle the more it takes to fill it up.

  • @DeadHeart150 sorry, but I did have to force down food. To me this is a chicken and the egg thing. If you train heavy you will benefit by eating heavy. I trained hard, ate maintenance for a few years and gained little muscle. When I started going nut's with food I gained a lot. That's just my singular experience. I also notice better gains with pre and post whey with simple carbs.

  • The harder you train in a day the more youll eat that day. If you keep training harder and harder youll eat more and more. Forcing down extra food will only tell your body to store those excess calories as fat. To build bigger MUSCLE you dont need more than what fills you up. and it matters what you're eating. If its not all healthy, then it takes more of it to get proper nutrician levels. Eat right and workout hard and youll grow the key is pain. When you wanna stop do more and youll grow

  • @Xavalexa Trust your body its full of living cells that know what they need and how much they need to repair the damage. If its not junk food the potency is big. and your body can use it effectively and immediately. junk food has to be kinda sifted through to find what can be used and the rest is gone to waste but good healthy food can totally be utilized by the body and enough is enough no more no less. And evalute what u consider healthy food it'll be easier than forcing down extra.
