the windows are all over the place, and they never stay where i put them, when i restart the program, windows move themselves everywhere. the "set as standard" option doesnt work either. gimp needs the toolbox and the main window to both be open or the program closes. it's just sloppy. i moved to gimp but its messy.

You need to wait for GIMP 2.8 (or build GIMP yourself from git). This is currently implemented but there has not been a release yet with that feature.

hello enselic. i'm new to gimp, and am finding your tutorials very informative.

this might be a very basic question, but when i first downloaded gimp 2.6, i closed some of the dialogue boxes, ie the dock window and the tab for paintbrush, etc within the toolbox window. so now they don't open when i start the programe and i can't figure out how to get them back. do you know how i can put it back it's original format on start up?

JimiChichenti - youve probably found your answer by now but for other folks tying to access closed docks.

Try going to Windows > layers, channels & paths.

It also has the dockable dialogs.

No wonder I've been having trouble! I just noticed there is no menu bard on my Main Toolbox. Therefore, when I'm told to click on "file" I don't have one to click on because there is no menu bar.

I looked in preferences and saw nothing. I re-installed it. Still not there. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Starting with GIMP 2.6 there is no menu bar in the toolbox any longer, it has been merged with the image window menu bar. With no images opened that menu bar is in a temporary placeholder window.

Holy shit! No!! GIMP 2.3 was an unstable development release, you should definitely use GIMP 2.6.

It's only copyright infringement if the image in question is copyright by the watermarker. Some people put on bogus watermarks. Also I don't think that it's illegal to edit off large watermarks as long as you credit the copyright owner, but that depends on thier policy about copyright and i seriously doubt they're okay with that since their point was to make sure credit doesn't get stolen.

There is no such tool yet, but you can make such shapes by doing a selection, converting it to a path, and then stroke the path.

I haven't used Photoshop in a long time so I can't really tell. If I would have to guess I would guess it is PS, although the GIMP 2.6 release significantly improved the GIMP user interface, and more improvements are being made for GIMP 2.8.
