Love this place.I've been renting a cabin there every winter for the past 10 years.Bear Valley is never over-packed with people if you want to ski,(snowboard in my case),and the drive from San Jose is about 3 hours and some.Usually a smooth ride all the way.Not like trying to get through the Sac area to go to Tahoe.I hate Tahoe.Sorry to those who like it but I've encountered nothing but yuppies the few times I've bben there.
This is a trip down memory lane, I live in Ireland and used to work in the girl scout camp just up the road in Dorrington called camp sugar pine for two summers(1988,89). I remember this place vaguely, is mountain mikes pizza still there??
Mountain Mike's Pizza is now "The Grizzly... [somehing]." A furniture place dealing in the higher end of cabin and rustic type furnishings a-la Cabela's. We were just in there the other day looking for a lamp for the loft area of our clear story cabin.
Hi there can I ask when did you go to summer camp as a kid ? Just wondering as I went as maintenance in 1988 ( I have the staff photo) and 1989 ( so keen lol) I so loved going to the Dorrington store for ice cream and wine coolers even though we shouldnt have had alcohol haha hey I wasn't even legal to buy alcohol but a foriegn accent swayed the store owners.
@dexter260570 i used to live in Dorrington! right next to THE LUBE ROOM Saloon, lol. back b4 my parents sold the cabin, i lived there in 2007. how is Ireland?
Thank you for posting this! My aunt and uncle live on that golf course, and both work at the town church. My uncle John Detrick is the minister. I haven't been there in years, but this video brings back memories man. I remember exactly how to get to their place, once you past that shopping mall at the beginning of the video. My aunt told my mother they have quite a snow pack this winter.
I used to live is Arnold and watching this video made me home sick, My dad built the big house on the corner of Lilac Dr. and Alder St. even though we left a twenty years ago, nothing has changed, made me feel like I never left.
Last Easter Sunday, 0830 AM. The CHP had no less than 5 patrol cars lined up to catch speeders. Come on, give us a break! What kind of PR is it for CHP to give speeding tickets to church goers on Easter Sunday? Wouldn't it be more prudent to be out on Murphys Grade Road Saturday nite looking for drunks?
No more mountain mikes. i think there is one in Sonora

Back in the day, Mountain Mike's used to be the best thing about Arnold, now it's Snowshoe brewery. But Dorrington is cool, I love the Lube Room!!!

Sugar Pine is my favorite. I camped there for...five years as a little girl, and worked there last summer. =)
