OTEC is perfect not to provide energy but was a mean to produce WATER , is the cold end or the siphon of energy, all work comes from energy diference, now use otec energy to pump cold water to the top of an updraft tower and get the water from condensation of the vapor in the air flux of the updraft. i´m that clever??
Here it is just over 4 years after this video was made and global warming has turned out to be a hoax. Cheap, clean energy is still something we need to research - but it needs to be CHEAP as well as clean.
@lcabosa I said in my post we need new forms of clean energy - but it has to cost effective. The Global warming hoax was designed largely by people looking to get rich off of expensive alternate forms of energy and the band wagon was jumped on by environmentalists who want less pollution but know nobody cares about pollution unless there's a physical scare attached to it. Remember acid rain? The rain forests being cut down by McDonald's? The hole in the o-zone?
@442hoeky so don't mix things, there's a global weather change problem, and there's a campaigner program from someone to get dividends from it. we need a major solution, we are facing now problems that begun sense first urbanization start to appear on the surface of the globe. Not some devices or even infinite energy can solve it, we need to change.
@lcabosa I guess I just refuse to change the system by going broke myself and leveraging the cost of the rest on following generations. If governments want to clean up the planet, then good, I'm all for it. So figure out a way to do it that doesn't cripple the west while China and India continue to pollute as they please, filling Walmart with their junk. Also, figure out a way to do it that doesn't involve me going to the poor house. Finally, lose the scare tactic propaganda.
@442hoeky why do u give so importance to them?? i`m figuring out a way, but is a massive change , not for our generation, the problem is our urbanization, energy source and recycling materials,i´m drawing a city that delivers solutions for that, so use your brain and think something different and new that maybe one day can inspire others to change, if not War will..., heheh.
@lcabosa Well, you touched on the best solution, of course - war (not that it's a GOOD solution!). The biggest problem with this planet is there are too many people and we continue to multiply like bacteria. I'm not saying war is a good thing, but if you want to save the planet, best to get rid of most of the humans! Only problem there is finding volunteers... not it!
@442hoeky war is the normal path, plenty of pseudo volunteers,War was fun but i think now we are scare of it , we need to focus with the same commitment and effort to something else that will benifite us all, we don't need to rid of humans, we need 1 trillion humans, this planet was potential for that.combine in a structure our needs and nature needs, i call that paradise. and yes is possible we have already sense it many times.
OTEC may be inefficient to many, the day its the only energy available and the dirty fossil fuels have been used up you will see the process optimised.
True Free energy devices exist,But the Oil coporations life depends on covering this up,Check this free energy magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Let the revolution begin!
Probably they should be investigating new ways to save energy before they spend vast amounts of money. A case in point is that in 2005 the Government, Market Transformation Program had tests made on a new type of cleaner that employs Air Recycling Technology. The results show that it could save 1.5 Terawatt (1,500 Gigawatt) each year in the UK alone. Simply, by changing the type of cleaner we use in our homes. It was originally designed to remove health hazards inherent in the vacuum cleaner.
i dont get it, wouldnt the energy required to pump the cold water up from the depths kind of offset the energy you can get from the thermal expansion/contraction of the working fluid?
i mean, isnt there a reason the cold water is seperated from the warm water in the first place, because it lacked the energy to mix the warm and cold waters...
@the13joker 50 months of economic growth - longest in American history - Reagan had his good points too...
Now think about this -- the only time a large industry has to worry about Government regulations is when that industry fails to contribute enough $ to one of the parties. As long as they pay, it's hands off.
Gov regulations are the tools used by large companies to monopolize markets.
@the13joker oh no the OTEC technology is horribly inefficient - at the time this video was made the estimates were as high as 7% but the reality was more like 1%-3% - why were they so far off? Over zealous scientist and engineers fudged the math to get the grant money. You can tell from the video this was much more hopeful thinking than good science.
@AMilitantAgnostic its good to get additional information from others that have more knowledge, thanks for sharing my friend. feel free to keep me posted.
@AMilitantAgnostic Burning fossil fuels in piston engines is only 20 ~ 28 % efficient. Nuclear may be the most efficient to you, but its also the most polluting example Fukushima when things go wrong.
@u3b93 Nice attempt at putting words in my mouth so you have something you can say "your wrong" to... Was any part of the conversation about me wanting Nuclear power to be the main stay? Come on when you try to argue like that it just makes you look augmentative. The only companies looking at OTEC type projects are companies that want grants no one is willing to invest in this at this point.
@AMilitantAgnostic What do you mean by "Over zealous scientist and engineers fudged the math . . ."? You are wrong to say that people experimenting with OTEC were only after the grant money. This technology is still under development. Have you been victimised by the OTEC industry?
Wow this showes me we need to become a socalist country and get rid of the old idea of money. Money lust has killed alot of people and I prefer air with oxygen in it doesn't anyone get this.

with socialism you pay for all sorts of shit you never even need, like state run companies that run on pure fat alone, and never even make a profit... let alone technical advances-
america has done EXTREMELY WELL this century, they've pulled the entire world hundreds of years into the future with innovation after innovation....
@ycats1000 "a freakshow of power lust, and thats not only ugly but very dangerous."
don't you think america already has this problem? socialism or faked democracy? maybe you should try social democracy. same problems but at least poor people don't die because they don't have food, a home or healthcare.
@swunt10 it's a debate thats been going on all through time...
having central control, like a dictatorship, accelerates a country's wealth and technical growth.
but it hits a wall were it starts to slow down, as there is no freedom, and most good ideas are a result of personal freedoms-
it's just about balance, in a war personal freedom is actually very dangerous as people need to band together and fight, but in peaceful times, leaders need to let go so the people can go in all directions

One of Reagan's first acts as President was to remove the solar panels on the White House roof that Carter had put up there.
According to Reagan, alternative sources of energy were a waste of time. He helped us become more dependent on oil.
