  • ACTUALY I FOUND A COVER OF THIS SONG, AND THE SINGER SINGS A B5 AND DOWN TO F# ! its called, under a glass moon unflexablegrace band

  • mashafasha5@ thats really not true

  • coke wont let it :D

  • Was that a F# at 3:45?

  • @calastiur Yes it was indeed

  • love petrucci's sound here, really ambient and natural, almost like the wood of his guitar's body is speaking:P

  • Why can't Labrie just stand still!!!

  • the singer works my nerves like no other person on the planet. but i tolerate his bs for the incredibly talented musicians in this band.

  • Thats not Jordan, thats the original keyboardist Kevin Moore. Rudess didn't join until Metropolis pt 2

  • Comment removed

  • @ShubaCar that's kevin moore not jordin

  • @ShubaCar Jordan wasn't in the group at this point...check whose argument is invalid...

  • Looks like most people were too busy fapping to like this up.

  • prob the best video of classic dream theater :). actually this is only 1 live show officially released as live video of classic line-up. look how fkn brilliant musicianship is! still one of my all-time fav videos!

  • ahhhh,JP before steroids

  • Sounds excellent... even in 240p, unbelievable

  • I saw them at high voltage fest in the summer with mangini, was awesome! did a little cover of the solo myself... if anyone wants to check!

  • I don't like Dream Theater too much, altough I respect them.

But I admit this is a nice fucking guitar solo

  • This is the height of DT. Listen to how fuggin tight MP is. Listen to Petrucci, it's like just coming out of him....this is so epic.

    Too bad it's over.

  • @ComicsNut IMO, the height of DT was either during Awake or Scenes From a Memory.

  • He sounds like he's losing his voice at parts!

  • WooW que rola!!!

  • Seen them multiple times...awesome! Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica...shuld have a tour all together...maybe have Yes there too!! Keep listening to intelligent craftsmanship!!!!

  • muito bom !!!

  • James is very fuck man

    Best vocal

  • lool rudess got hair!

  • @Sockenterry FAIL. Its Kevin Moore.

  • @domogunner

    THANKS

  • @domogunner

    einstein detected.

  • @benkimimyaa I think my superior spotting skills surpass Einstein in every level ;)

  • @Sockenterry wkjakwjajwkjaw noob

  • 4:16 best part (= love that breakdown!

  • 3:41 "Bear this honor in my...NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!" lol :o

I checked the pitch and it's an F#5. Isn't that the same one James climbs up to in Learning to Live?

  • These are your best ages, James. You are fucking amazing.

  • Happy Saturday Night Everyone

  • All bands are better at their earliest.....

  • @mashafasha5 All bands better at their earliest? may i draw then your attention to W.A.S.P., Blind Guardian, Opeth, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, and Iron Maiden. Admittedly Maiden slacked off in later years, but all good bands require time and experience to refine their sound. Surely you wouldnt consider scenes from a memory DTs "earliest"?

  • @Draper354 Fine fine fine.... hiperbole then?

  • @mashafasha5 yeah lets run with hyperbole :)

  • @Draper354 Nor would you consider this song from scenes from a memory?

  • @MultiAnalRapist of course not, its an images and words song, that was hardly my point. i was merely proposing that DTs arguably finest work was well into their career, as opposed to this song which was written quite early on.

  • @mashafasha5 All bands? Not really. Look at Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Yes, and Genesis for some counterexamples. Even with Dream Theater, their earliest stuff was with Charlie Dominici, not this.

  • @psyoptica Clearly I was exaggerating, but some bands are...

  • @mashafasha5 I see where you're coming from. A lot of bands have a special energy in their early days, irregardless of the quality of their music. Dream Theater had a special something in this era that they never really recaptured. I do love their recent stuff though, and the new album does hark back to Images & Words and Awake a little bit.

  • @psyoptica YES

  • @mashafasha5 HIPSTER! But eh, i mean this album was phenominal, but James suffered vocal damage in the Awake era, and since, hasn't been able to do the same that he could. Their music however, has evolved in every album.

  • @mashafasha5 not true

  • At 5:52, I was like "Oh my god, is he going to hit the right note ?!" and then I remembered it was not LaBrie signing, but Petrucci playing, so I felt reassured.

  • 3:45 holy fuckballs, James!

  • wonderfuLL

  • This is one of the all time best guitar solos ever! I used to have it as my ring tone. Sometimes I wouldn't answer just so I could listen to it! I am A fairly accomplished guitar player and I won't even attempt it.

  • @shaneb1313 For real man. I've been playing for a long time but i still don't dare attempt it.

  • how much gay hair .....?

  • El bateriista es un reeee pirooboooo !!!

  • it needs more bass....... myung is a god of bass

  • OH Crap!!! everyone of them actually HAD hair! lol

  • damn G5

  • puto labrie que bien cantaba.. pena ahora..

  • 1.36 GOD PETRUCCI made a mistake...listen carefully the chord...

  • @hjsxsempre it does actually sound out of tune for few bars!..

  • @hjsxsempre thats not a mistake.

  • @mojopin70 yes man....if you listen carefully the chords and what Labrie is singing you'll notice something different (that is something wrong)...by the way...my opinion is even a joke...cause we're talking about musician of 1st level...probably the best

  • @hjsxsempre mate...I don't really want to pretend to be right....i'm a musician and i have a quality..the so called "absolute ear"...you know....listen the chord from 1.36 and at 1.58....the second one is an halftone under....(I repeat it's just my opinion but i'm sure to be right!!) BYE

  • @hjsxsempre man you dont need to have "absolute ear" to discover that "mistake"...by the way, that is not a mistake, listen the 2006 Score version and you will find it

  • @hjsxsempre

You can see he's not playing it wrong at 1:44, his guitar just might be slightly out of tune from the intro and the floyd rose usage, or because he is pushing on the bridge with his palm muting, making the pitch go slightly higher.

  • Wow,woulda been so cool to be there.

(wonder is that where Kiesha whatever her name is got the idea for 'Whip my hair'

    hehe

  • @LapseAttack It's a shame man, he can still sing better than most of the auto-tuned shite you hear on the radio these days though. When did he have the accident, was it FII era?

  • @crazychris93 No, it was during the Awake Tour (1994). I guess he ruptured his vocal chords in Cuba.

  • LaBrie's voice in this is sexy

  • THEY NEED TO TURN UP THAT BASS!!!

  • Cygnus and the Seamonsters (mike portnoy/paul gilbert rush covers)

  • hahaha kev with his shorts lol

  • The interesting thing about DT is that when you search for live versions of their songs on YouTube, you never find shitty cover bands ruining the song because no one could even attempt to cover their songs...

  • That last note LaBrie hit resonated so hard with my speakers that my brains started dribbling out my ears.

I enjoyed every second of it.

  • Damn, Myung is... headbanging? is moving! holy... its the first time that I see him like that o.o

  • @protonelexe ...and not wearing a black shirt too

  • this might be my favorite solo of all time, the phrasing is perfect, technicality is perfect, the tone is perfect, everything is perfect about that solo

  • I think that voice was an "sheriff tune" they called? 3:45 OMFG It's the highest voice I ever heard in my life...

  • @AbledHands1O1 Ripper Owens might be pretty close...also check out Mike Portnoy and Paul Gilbert doing 2112 the singer from Dangerous Toys nails Geddy's voice perfectly. PG and MP kik azz too (look up Cygnus and the Destroyers)

  • this song changed my life...

  • This $H!T is amazing!!! Great Upload man!

  • Dream Theater in their prime!

They're one of those bands (much like Rush) that stick to their guns. They draw a "Line in the Sand". People who like them can't get enough, and those who don't like them usually Absolutely HATE them... A good sign that they're doing something right!

  • 3:45 *-*

One of the goodest live moment for labrie .

  • Thumbs up for LaBrie's fail'd headbang at the beginning

  • There is only 1 and i mean 1 solo in this world that i prefer to this one and that is For The Love Of God by Steve Vai

  • That solo was PERFECT!

  • to me images and words is the sacred text of prog rock

  • In moore's Dt era the solos were not just for the sake of showing off, they were actually parts of the song, meaningful, with an essence. Memorable stuff, not just wanking.

  • i miss kevin moore

  • most talented band ever.

  • Myung and Moore are robots

  • nice sexy drumming leotard portnoy

  • @facedspaced Only BAMFS wear those lmao

  • what happened to all that stage attitude? That raw power?

  • Turns out Learning to Live isn't the only Dream Theater song with a badass F# in it.

  • @eiddezepope I wanted to say that! I think the best part about this F#, is that it's more alive, spontaneous, young (LaBrie's voice) and unexpected. spectacular. no pressure on him, when everyone expects it from him in Learning to Live, but here, he just decides to give it

  • 5:36 moment when petrucci realizes everybodys face in the crowd just melted off...

  • 5:36 moment when petrucci realizes everybodys face in the crowd just melted off...

  • I bought a TAMA Swingstar drum-set in 2002 and it came with a DVD called "Out of the box and onto the stage" where it had Portnoy on it telling how to set up the drum-set, then he was explaining about how the double-pedal changes a lot the song and he played this song, then there was a part of this concert on it, that's when I met dream theater. I really wish I could have been there in 1993 watching this live. The guitar solo is amazing. I'm wondering why Kevin M left, I never liked Derek, haha

  • damn i love the end with that long lyric

  • Back in the day when nobody could insult Labrie's voice. At all. Ever. Period.

  • That's a Sheriff Tune at 3:46, the highest voice I have heard in my life. Petrucci makes at his guitar solo! that's impressive! hahaha, now I know that he's a human! hahahaha.. LaBrie has a powerful voice at 7:05... Dream Theater is unmatch, Dream Theater Rocks so hard.. DT FTW....

  • @AbledHands1O1 that's not even that high of a note and he goes way higher in octavarium. -_-

  • spam 0:9 lol

  • Labrie kinda always looks like a pirate...

    3:46 = Amazing

  • 3:45 Bear trap on testicles! OUCH!

  • What year was this?

  • 4:12 insane scream lmao

  • lol james has no voice

  • @KyleJPie10 wat do u mean?

  • @HebbyMetal His voice is strained so it sounds a bit off. Not ripping on James though lol.

  • @KyleJPie10 Oh lol its cool i just dident kno wat u ment lol

  • @KyleJPie10 this was filmed before the food poisoning incedent

  • @sunnyjim98 His voice is still strained... you can tell because it's raspy and hoarse.

  • @KyleJPie10 He said he was fully recovered in 2005.. Score was completely amazing, so can't really want anything better from him now :P

  • @xFpsPwnagex Not talking about the incident >_<... I'm just saying that he overused his voice during this particular concert and it is obviously strained. Something like this heals overnight though.

  • the best concert of DT

  • i rofl'd at the way james was dancing when mike started playin XD

  • one of the best john's guitar solos

  • lol I remember this from the audio commentary...

"Why is he headbanging? It's like the first song of the evening!" xD

  • I love the fact that they used to head bang..........but they look weird XD......I miss those days.....wich is weird because i was born that year

  • 3:46 made me lmfao

  • was this before or after his food poisoning incident?

  • @Durs11290 before, you can hear have clear and powerful his voice is.

  • @Durs11290 well... during.

  • hahaha after so many years, james has never gotten any better with his stage banter...it's always the same overly hyped up yelling with every other word somehow ending in "uh"

it's awesome to see johnny m head banging so hard in this

  • Portnoy........WTF is with the leotard?!?!?!?!

  • @cincye i think its an unnecessarily big wife beater

  • Kevin Moore

    <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Thumbs up for Petrucci's ass-raping solo!!!

  • @mychokingvictem I'm only 15, but I'm guitarist and it's the best solo I heard until today.

  • I love the Petrucci's shoes

  • At 4:55 starts Petruccis awesome solo

  • @Basska96 your right

  • 8 thumbs down faggots.

  • I wouldn't call Dream theater progressive I'd call them just amazing!

  • @cloudvol7

Dream theater are the definition of progressive.

  • @cloudvol7 I call them gods.....

  • Que fuerza le ponian todos antes...

  • Comment removed

  • I love the old dream theater :)

  • @jasonlangeraiki the wildest times, without posing.... hehe

  • Who doesnt like this video should take some pee '-'

  • john myung hasn't aged since this concert.

  • OMG 3:45

  • we can appreciate in this song the slow but sure decline of La Brie's voice...he is unable to controll it, he could reach the pitch as easily as just fail

  • @jeaarrg wtf? labrie's voice wasn't declining! he suffered of food poisoning (damaging his vocal chords) in 1994 before the awake tour

  • absolutley brilliant.

  • Such a fucking awesome solo. I never get sick of this song.

  • Awesome! John Petrucci looks like a child.

  • @Boltogenta but still plays like a god

  • exelent

  • Labrie should patent that dance more; 'The Labrie Groove'

  • I may have watch this more than 200 times, it's always awesome....

  • i love this song.. and i love the band

  • @fledgehog YESSSSS

  • I can't hear Myung at all :(

  • wow james! I'm surprised he used to have that in him

  • best guitar solo ever written

  • myung's head banging is epic 0:49

  • Mike Portnoy left ):

  • John Myung is like the Samurai bass master!!!

  • @ZachValkyrie best internet comment ever

  • @ZachValkyrie Myung is man of china not jap

  • @retsuzin55 Actually, John Myung is Korean, not Chinese or Japanese.
