  • der Grösste...

  • Well, perhaps handsome is not the proper word, but he definitely did not look ugly, and he looked sort of cute.

  • yes, even when he acted cheeky, he had something innocent and likeable about him, which made him quite unique as an actor. it was hard not to like him.

    heute würde man sagen Entertainer

  • A great song, his performance in the movie seems to be a parody of Maurice Chevalier (the straw hat and the lips). Rühmann was married to the very beautiful Herta Feiler, also an actress. I read in a book that she was only allowed to work with a "sondererlaubnis",a special permission, because she was unable to proof she was 100% aryan. However, I don't know if this is completely true...

  • Yes, Herta Feiler was classified as a 'quarter jew', and worked only with special permission. She was also perhaps the most beautiful woman ever to appear in German film - and utterly wonderful in the very romantic film 'Der Engel Mit dem Saitenspiel', which was directed by Ruhmann.

  • It is always great to hear Rühmann and not least this song. It is not quite correct to put Hans Albers and Rühmann under the same label. If Albers was opportunistic, it was certainly not in the way of approving of the regime. Hans Albers declined an award for actors because the reception of it would involve meeting Goebbels. Both Albers and Rühmann were quite popular in Denmark after the war, but Rühmann`s popularity lasted longer.

  • Rühmann and Albers could not really be called 'friends'. They were associated by a love-hate relationship. They didn't like one another. But they were forced to work together, because as a duo they were most successfull.

  • The Film "Fünf Millionen suchen einen Erben" also features a very nice swing tune "Ich tanz' mit Fräulein Dolly swing" sung by the actor Robert Dorsay.

In 1943 Dorsay was executed by the Nazis. In a letter he send to a dear frind he wrote: "when will this asininity be finished". This letter was caught by the Gestapo. Due to activities affecting armed forces he was was executed.

  • I just checked "Heinz" out in 2 clips. He was not handsome. In fact he looks like a blonde Eddie Cantor. The picture you have must be of a very young "Heinz" or the best one ever taken of him and in one clip he tried to do the tango. A complete disaster!

  • No, he wasn't especially handsome. In certain films he looked attractive - this was one of them, Allotria was another - but he had a natural comic's face, very mobile and somehow slightly rubbery.

  • Bitch is a funny word, in the sense of strange. In English it always refers to a female, deriving from the word for a female dog. But maybe in German and Polish it is also used in regard to nasty men. In English, the latter would more likely be called bastards. Now watch YT censor this!

  • In fact he might have been pretty much like he sings: "Ich breche die stolzesten Frauen" etc and the stuff. Although repeating I love this great performance from an artistic viewpoint, I'm aware of those biographical facts, yes. But I always try to make a distinction between performance and personal character.

  • Now I don't like him. He is NOT that good looking. I can't stand BITCHY MEN!!!

  • Brilliant selection from this so famous film "Die Drei von der Tankstelle". Love it!

  • "Heinz" resembles the gorgeous Jude Law a little bit so I can understand poor Anne Frank keeping his picture on her wall. I would like to see "Die Feuerzangenbowle" just to see him perform. Very interesting presentation and story. Thanks.

  • Wunderschön!
