  • Dr. Burke,

Thank you for taking your time to record and post these videos. In May I will graduate with a BS in Human Medicine. Recently, I was accepted to a one-year MBA program, but plan to apply to medical school during that year. I have a strong interest in CHS, but I have to fly to different states to observe. Its expensive, so I don't get to do it often. Its nice to have an opportunity to watch it online! Especially since I have not been able to see a hybrid surgery for HLHS. Thanks again!

Your story is a perfect validation of our YouTube Channel. I'm happy this was useful to you.

Good luck with your future work. You are always welcome to visit us in person.

    Sincerely,

    Redmond Burke MD

Yes, I have been watching ORlive/Miami Children's channel for a while. I believe it is beneficial for doctors to post videos giving information about themselves. When patients/parents are looking for a doctor its exemplary that they want to personally know their doctor. It gives patients/parents a sense of security. Social media fills this gap.

I would gladly accept your offer. I have a friend that will be attending FIU COM this year, so I wouldn’t have to stay in a hotel.

I agree that operative videos may empower patients and families. They may also help remote medical teams to identify, evaluate, learn and apply novel approaches to help their patients. You are ahead of the curve, the power of social media in medicine is largely untapped, this is an exciting time.

    Sincerely, Redmond Burke MD

I read on MCH’s site that the cath lab has high-resolution digital imaging. I completed a research fellowship at Cornell and while there I noticed forefront technology in radiology (3D, virtually splicing through organs layer by layer, etc.) Do you think this could be possible for 3D heart cath live in the OR (or hybrid OR)?

  • My son had the stage 1 at 6.5 weeks. And is now in the hospital until he finds a heart we are told he is not a candidate for stage 2 because he can not go on the heart and lung bypass. He has left ventrical to coronary artery fistula

I apologize for the late response. If you would like us to review your child's situation, please contact my office manager at 305-663-8041. We could give you another opinion on what might be possible for a Stage 2 operation. We wish you and your family the best. Sincerely, Redmond Burke MD

  • This is incredible how far medicine has come. I am 33 weeks pregnant with an hlhs baby and he will be having the hybrid once he is born in Columbus oh. I have so much respect for those who save lives everyday!

  • @papillon0509

    How is your baby?

    I hope you are OK

We are doing great! My son had his Stage II yesterday. Dr. Galantowicz said it was one of the best surgeries he had done. It went smooth and took 6 hours. My son even came off the vent in the surgery room and his sats are in the mid 80's. He has one hell of a headache but I would much rather deal with that then the alternative!

  • @papillon0509

Congratulations. I hope you and your son are doing well. You've both been through a lot, more than most people could comprehend.

    Sincerely,

    Redmond Burke MD

  • i want to be ur student!
