Having lived through kissing, fists and having none - i speak with complete wisdom when i say that 'a kiss with a fist is NOT better than none'. Not even coming close. Star Trek was honestly a good movie - not what so many trekkies were expecting but a good movie in its own right - and it deserves MUCH better treatment than being connected with this battered-wife anthem of a sick masochistic song. This is not about a woman being beaten by her bf/husband and if you would actually listen to the lyrics and analyze them you would see the glaringly obvious metaphor. Why would a young boy want to drive a car over a cliff almost killing himself? Later on we find him sleazing in bar and getting into a fight and there definitely was a smile on his face when he was lying bloodied on the table. I'm not saying he is mentally unstable, but he very well could be.

That car belonged to his dead father.. it was NOT actually Frank's car and after a bad argument Jim decides to take the car away from Frank by driving it over the cliff. He was NOT suicidal.

I think our main difference is in how we interpretate this particular vid - you feel it's abusive and I can see how that wouldn't fit with the deep friendship that these characters share. I instead am used to differentiate between the canon and the fan world and find it fun.

I have been taught that when the artist publishes their piece, they give it up for interpretation - they can't control how people think and why should they? I have also been taught that every interpretation is as valid as another if you have good enough arguments to back it up. Wowowow I feel like this is perfect for the film. I mean, in no way would I want K/S to be fighting all the time, but ST XI has a lot of violence and dark stuff in it, so it fits the mood of the movie really well. Also, your mixing was AMAZING.

@Mikanojo It's hard for me to swallow that I wouldn't be "a true fan" cause I like how the characters live a second life in the hands of the fans, and don't think that it's something to keep away from the public. I think our main difference is in how we interpretate this particular vid - you feel it's abusive and I can see how that wouldn't fit with the deep friendship that these characters share. I instead am used to differentiate between the canon and the fan world and find it fun.

Not only does that not fit with the brotherly love that theses characters come to symbolize, but it also does not fit with the very concept Roddenberry was trying to instill with Trek. His vision of the future showed us a humanity that had evolved away from most of the sickness that cripples us now, still flawed, but BETTER than we are, not worse.

I have been taught that when the artist publishes their piece, they give it up for interpretation - they can't control how people think and why should they? I have also been taught that every interpretation is as valid as another if you have good enough arguments to back it up. In fiction you don't even have to do that, because you're not trying to prove anything or state a fact or argue this or that about the work. You do it just for fun.

There is so much room for interpretation that still allows the characters to be portrayed as the movie intended. Watch Kobayashi Maru v2.0 posted by psychifangirl, then watch Star Trek XI - At the Beginning posted by anakinmcfly - so incredibly different but both incredible, and that is how true fans honor a show in mai opinion.

I really can't get enough of how you edited it so that it would show them arguing verbally, cut to punching, then go back to arguing and back again. I really really enjoyed that! Goes great with the beat. Also that one clip where Spock uses a vulcan hold on Kirk that sends him down goes so well with that particular bit of music. I can watch this a million times, its such a gem :)
