the mexico popmart tour version of this song is best, even better than the studio version....by then they had worked out how to play it and have it actually sound good
Unbeleivable Album THE most Underated Album from U2. Awesome tracks every one, Please, Gone, Discoteque the list go on> U2 Rocks !!!! cant wait for Sheffield
Its a disgrace to appreciate U2 when they take risks? Its a disgrace to say POP ranks up there with Joshua Tree: the album that gave us the U2 dressed in cowboy hats and leather vests scmoozing for the camera at Graceland pretending to be grass roots American cowboys? Sorry, I like Joshua Tree. But I prefer U2 when they mixed irony into their music and spit in the face of commercialism by swimming in it. The 90's gave us u2's most accomplished and artistic vision.
Spit in the face of commercialism? U2? You're funny dude. If people just appreciate that artist for their music instead of trying to elevate them into some kind of moral and ethical highness the threads of youtube wouldn't turn out to be so retarded.
You seemed to only read half the post. I said spit in the face of commercialism WHILE SWIMMING IN IT. Thats not elevating them into "some kind of moral highness". It is called irony, which if you use your brain at all, is a common theme throughout Pop. If you read any interviews at all, U2 clearly stated that the irony of despising commercialism while at the same time embracing it was a point they were trying to make (read the lyrics of Gone).
"Who'll agree with me, that POP can easily compete with Joshua of being their Opus Magnum."
POP is much better than Joshua tree. As Bono said about it: POP starts in a party (Discotheque) and ends in a funeral (Wake up dead man). Not only has POP many of U2´s best melodies it is also a very strong as an album: the songs are tied up with each other very naturally.
First time I heard 'Pop' I thought "that was CRAP"....but the second time I was convinced "this is revolutionary!!". It is easily one of the ver best...and yes - it IS up there with The Joshua Tree.
then you didn't listen very well to pop. there are some beautiful songs on the album. get out of the 80's and grow along with the band and their music! that is wat a true fan does.
A real fan wouldn't overlook their truly admirable work, I.E The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. Even thinking for one second that Pop is better makes you mentally insane. And I say this in spite of that Pop is also a really good album.
Does a real fan have to LIKE all of their work. I love Joshua Tree all the way up to and including Pop. But their work since 2000, except for a track here and there, falls far short of their brilliance in the 90's
So true, they're like a different band since 2000. The production changed but I think it's Bono's lyrics that's the main difference, they're less personal somehow
@pfctsqr A real fan does not have to like all of their work. Hello fellow fan. However, it is not a fact that their latest work isn't brilliant. In my opinion it is, and their latest album is, in my opinion, pure genius.
Who'll agree with me, that POP can easily compete with Joshua of being their Opus Magnum. POP just pushed them so far ahead of time, it topped every on artistic level. They have trouble themselves even talking about it today, I think because it reached a hight far beyond their wildest dreams. One of WORST selling U2 albums... Imagine a band that faced nineties and kicked them so hard, because [Flashback everyone]: 1997 radio was RULED by Spice Girls... Rock bands were in agony in 90' (Pumpkins)
trully agree! better album than most of the people think (and the band themselves). The last time U2 came with something really original. They started to repit themselves from this on
Underrated album and underrated song. I seriously hope they'll pay more attention to the Pop songs on their next tour... Now That would have been great! :-D
Is it With or without you that you hear the intro to in the end of this video?
If someone has the video for WOWY from this show in Rotterdam, would you PLEASE (another great song U2 seem to have forgotten...) upload it? :-)
Well, you hear With or Without You first, which is the next song they played live, but then it cuts to a few seconds to the musical intro of their opening song of the night and tour, MOFO.
La canzone più sinestetica che io conosca. Mi fa pensare al fruscio di lenzuola di seta, al velluto blu, al colore grigio perla, al profumo delle candele ormai consumate, al sapore di un bacio.
Wish I could have seen them perform this live just once!

You're both a disgrace to the band, and any true fan. Pop doesn't nearly compare to The Joshua Tree.
