Just watched yer allotment vids, first bit of advice, dont try and dig wet soil, you just make it worse.
Secondly you gonna need to get yourself a hoe! :O . You dont want to be diging around your plants once growing as you risk damaging roots, to remove weedlings/grass just keep hoeing them untill they give up.
Also you want to start getting yer chicken shit in there now, dig in well and leave for a month, stinks but most things that plants like do stink! :p
Doom! XD I starting yelling "it's Quake, Quake!" at the screen, but to be honest everyone plays the shoddy Call of Duty series these days :/ Great job on the door, and kudos to your nephew! I was showing the misses your allotment and how it works (I don't think we have anything like this in the states) and suddenly the camera started pivoting and shortly after you mentioned your nephew was recording. I had a laugh about it, though I think she thought I was nuts ^_^
hi rick, not a bad job at making that door, the wind was quite bad think we had 70 mph,in northumberland but it seemed more, wouldnt take much to bend them doors, had a simalar metal shed and they are thin.good luck with the allotmant !
Do you ever drink coffee? You always mention a cup of tea....yes, typical English of course. We here in Holland are more coffee drinkers I guess. Greetings Rick.
It just doesn't look like wind damage. Looks like someone took a crowbar to the door edge as it's bent outwards. Was the left hand door bent inwards at the same part of the frame?
Aha, cheers for the advice all! I was only there by chance and I'm not normally used to using a camera or handling power tools, so it was really nice to be able to do something different, that's hands-on and constructive, even if it was just helping to build a shed door!
You could save yourself a couple syllables by simply calling them Tarps like we do here in America. Good job on the door. I bet it will be nicer to operate than the flimsy metal ones.
Rick, I think I may have come across as a bit critical in my previous comments and that wasn't how I wanted to come across. I meant well, but maybe I should have just...
I'm really glad Nathan was there to assist you. He did a great job with the camera and with helping you.
I also think you did a great job on the shed door. It looks very strong and strudy.
Nice job on the door. But you shoulddo something about it and make it more waterproof. I asume you have just as much rain as we do in norway. Your shed will be wet all the time :-)
@jamiewindsor The tarpaulins have stuck themselves to the wet clay, literally! The winds were pretty ferocious and the doors were pretty flimsy, so I'm 95% confident it was the wind :o)
One other thing, and sorry here I go "waffling" again with my comments as you can see for as many comments as I have already posted, but I am wondering about the shed door. I noticed there is a small gap between each board, and rightfully so. I believe they are called spacers? What I am wondering is if you are going to have a bug problem because of it, because small insects, spiders, etc., can now crawl in there and make a home, and I am afraid when you open the shed door you might find nests?
@WhiteTeaRoses315 I had to include the gaps in order to make the door the right width, but there are lots of other gaps elsewhere so I'm figuring if insects want in, they'll get in no problem anyway - let hope it's bees :o)
YES Rick, go and put your neighbor's tarps back for him! :-) That's what I would do if I were there. The man is not there to know that his tarps are flying away. If you tarps were flying away and you didn't know about it, I'm sure you would appreciate your neighbor stepping in during a time of your need and fixing your tarps to spare you the trip of having to go get your tarps from as you say "the next county." ;-)
Nathan, also try to think ahead and when you are working with someone working with tools. For example, you can see Rick is holding up the wood, so logic would tell you that Rick is going to need screws next and then the screwdriver, so just pick up those things and have them ready for him without Rick having to tell you or ask you for them. Be with Rick mentally so you know what he is going to need next. That is how you work together as a team, by anticipating the other person's needs. :-)
Nathan, just a word of advice, to be taken as constructive not destructive criticism, but whenever you are assisting someone who is working with tools the way Rick was, you always hand the screwdriver to him with the bit facing you and the back of the screwdriving facing Rick, so all Rick has to do is grab the handle, put the bit in the screw, and go. Don't hand Rick the screwdriver where he has to physically turn it around with one hand to use it. Rick is using his other hand to hold the wood.
Hi Rick. I'm sorry for laughing, but that is hilarious that the winds did nothing to your tarps yet blew the shed doors in!? Oh my goodness? That just seems incapable to me? LOL :-) There isn't any footprint on the door is there? Someone didn't try to break into your shed by trying to kick the door in or anything like that did they? It really was the wind? That was nice that Nathan showed up with you. Hi Nathan! :-) I didn't pick up on the moving tripod until you said something about it. :-)
@rickvanman Ah, smart! For drinking? I thought you had a berkley filter in your kitchen, or maybe you run the rainwater through it. Do you drink all your water through the berkley?
@5.15 Brilliant! I laughed out loud. Good job on the door and a very neighbourly gesture to put the tarps back next door. But, don't forget to tell him... a bit like going to a funeral - no point if you're not seen.
Nice piece of wood work there Rick. I think if your shed had been up here in Scotland. The shed would of blown away. We had some really bad winds up here

I can't believe how much you got done considering how cold and nasty it's been.
Seeing the entire garden area, sure showed off how nice it all turned out, and just how much you did.
Your nephew did a good job with the camera.

That what I thought at first, but nothing was taken, so I figured the wind. They have been a bit bent up since I got it.

are you sure that it was the wind that blew those doors in and not any unexpected guests?
