  • Hey, looks like you got it right!

  • It clearly wasn't meant to be seemless. They challenge you to work out how, so the letters not being reversed AREN'T a mistake etc. All these things you noticed are meant to be noticed. You use the YouTube HD option (playing on the HD of the camera in the phone) to spot the clues.

You seriously got the wrong end of the intent here.

  • Talking of wrong end of the stick...

If they were meant to be noticed, this video shows where they are, it was made simply to highlight the points for those who may not have seen all the 'clues'. I never said the reversed letters were a mistake, you said that.

The only fail I see here are you poor grammar and spelling.

  • What he probably meant is they used the viral aspect of such youtube videos to publish their product. Youtube people are BOUND to point out every mistake in such a video. ;-D

    But nice video though. =P

  • Really really good, I also noticed that the was image of a character pillow at the start ontop of a black pillow and then it turned in to a green pillow on a white shag

  • wow, you are really clever, i would have never noticed half of the stuff you did, well done...

correct me if im wrong but the 'S' on the samsung phone, are they back to front in the mirror???..

and you mention his hand at 4:03.. possibly the light source from the real camera guys right shoulder, the window?

  • Well noticed.. But a little anal ^_^

  • You won't find any of that on youtube, try redtube.

  • Lol, you know what i mean.

  • obviously the production team (ie. a marketing firm hired by Sumsung, not just this random British guy, buddy, and two girls) left clues on purpose. The fact that Samsung is only partially backwards (as others have pointed out) means they went out of their way to do this, and timed it right when he says HD.

  • that being said, you probably did find a few that they didn't intend...and you probably covered all of them I think so you were very thorough.

What are your thoughts on the angle of reflection of the lampshade in real life versus this fake mirror...i'm not sure in some scenes if it would be visible

  • i think there is a mirror, this video seems like one of those crazy conspiracy theories.

the truth is that the camera has this feature where it can turn invisible.

  • Not to mention the camera lenses do not line up in the mirror. It's off to the side?

    Huge mistake.

  • I figured it was so obvious it wasn't worth mentioning!

  • I mean absolutely no offense to anyone with the comment following, but I've entertained the idea that it's possible that they did it this way quite deliberately, so that the more astute viewers among us WOULD spot the discrepancies and thereby generate more publicity for the ad! I would likely never have seen the ad, if I hadn't been pointed to this debunking video. So this video has told me that the Samsung HD Phone exists. Again, no offense intended to anyone involved.

  • Absolutely none taken. However, having seen this ad, I wouldn't touch this camera with a bargepole.

Awful frame rate, artifacts throughout the picture, terrible colour representation, slow exposure reaction, it's HD in it's loosest possible form.

For me all they've done is show how bad this camera is.

  • Now that's real advice noiseache, and thanks for that. I'm also entertaining the idea of buying an HD camera, but for sure it's not going to be bundled with a phone!!

  • If you've got the cash, a good start would be a PANASONIC AG HMC151, AVCCAM HD. I had a chap from Panasonic demo me one yesterday and it's great for the money. About £2800 from your online sellers. Cheap media, Lieca lens, Progressive scan, HDMI out. It's a gem for the money. The smaller consumer AVCCAM Panasonics are also good but the picture is not great. The high compression always comes at a price in the picture quality.

  • Hmm, interesting, but what about people who aren't looking for a dirt cheap, no frills piece of junk, but want something good?

  • Maybe look at the HVX 200 or up from that an HPX500.

The P2 system is really good, been using it for 2 years and it's been rock solid. These cameras also film in SD and HD including slo-mo and native 24p!

  • Yeah I was just being sarcastic that someone would seriously talk about £3k worth of camera as an alternative to a cheap consumer phone with a built in camera. Moreso given the context of youtube.

  • A couple of more....the wrapping paper stripes (at 1:17 in the full video) do not match. And look at the "reflection" of the camera in the mirror again...the word "Samsung" is backwards...but not the "S's". Too funny there.

  • One thing you fogot to mention is that the lady that we see at first is wearing BLUE socks, then when we see the lady in the "mirror" the lady is wearing BLACK socks. then when he looks at the lady with his camera at the end, she is wearing BLUE socks again

  • good work

  • You say screw ups we say clues and misdirection. Nice video

  • No one has got back to me from the makers of this ad to confirm or deny the findings of this and other comments here.

So for now they must remain screw ups if the challenge was to discover how it was done. You would hope given the budget and attention to detail elsewhere that they would have wanted it to remain fairly underterminable, not blown out of the water in 10 minutes. The misdirection of the girl was noted to cover up the turning phone discrepancy.

  • They are clues and misdirections mostly, they are in there so that is easier to see in HD, and harder to spot in SD

Some things are designed to make people think its simple others are not.

There are hidden clues that can only be spotted on HD such as the gnomes, horns etc. Its all about looking closely.

  • What I don't understand though is why have all the little clues when there are others that are massively obvious and show you quite plainly how the film was made?

You could have had an ant on the wall in one shot but not the other, but when you've got the things I pointed out glaring at you, the more intricate effort is in my opinion wasted.

Let's face it, it may be HD but only because it has a higher pixel count than SD. The picture itself is nasty!

  • What would have been a better exercise would be to say how it was done but then ask for the viewer to highlight all the things in the shot that give that away, then award someone a free HD phone if they spot them all!

  • Well it's fairly self evident that it isn't a reflection. Given the premise of no edits.

If it isn't a reflection it's again self evident what it must be. Someone filming through a hole in a wall, not a mirror.

Everything else, i.e the mistakes, aren't actually explaining anything, because that is already obvious (unless you believe in magic) So if it took you 10 minutes and you needed any of the cues, you did more work than you needed too. Interesting though the mistakes are.

  • the second girl wears a necklace :D the first one doesnt :P

  • Check 1:11 man, you can clearly see each one has a necklace.

You've got to be sharper than that!

  • oh yeah.. my fault.. but its shape is different tho.. Big ups 4 the vid (Y)

  • well done :D

  • Pero esta llenisimo de errores...

FLASE VERY MUCH como diria el coco vasile!

  • I read somewhere that there are quite a few things in there that are left for people to see on HD, there is a blog somewhere that lists them all. From the girls to the backwards "S" on the phone. The idea is that people watch in HD to see the phone recording abilities. Look for the other furniture for the other clues.

Its a nice idea, I like it - I like the fact its inspired you to do a video too which is cool as it means I get to see more interesting stuff on YT.

  • is very easy to see when the mirror on the hand although only 4 fingers match the match, which is very far and is very different for the thumb 1 cm of diference between 2 fingers thumb's, i meand no match thumb's for anything in the mirror, and is therefore a glass is a mirror and another quarter is identical with actors like ..

  • very well done :)

  • i already noticed most of the stuff other than the AB and the girl's hair, good job spotting the details :)

you also might want to mantion that on a mirror reflection both cameras should be perfectly lined up when the phone is close to the mirror. this is most obvious at 03:51 in your video, the camera should be staring directly into its reflection, instead it is looking at the bottom part of the phone.

  • nice one mate

  • top notch answer, well done mate.

  • top job well done,You should do this with other videos on youtube

  • Send me some links and I'll have a look!

  • hmm depends on the videos you like doing,Do you do ghost videos?

  • I've done a few,I've also done a bit of work for the police/lawyers on surveillance videos. (many years back)

Send me a link and I'll have a look!

  • muy buena respuesta

  • Puedo hablar Español, ¡quizas Hago un pelicula por la gente de España! (con las palabras en Español)

  • estaria buenisimo una pelicula en español, la esperamos

  • Brilliant!

  • Quite easy with all of those screw-ups, i missed a few though :)

    Nicely done.

But damn I hate those little "HD" camera's....i need something to hold....the Red One is indeed great and the price is good compared to other camera's.

  • the socks dude.. how did you miss the socks?? blue/black

  • They are the same colour, check the HD version. I did highlight this in my first post but having been satisfied they are the same colour now, negated it from this analysis.

The camera colour representation is sadly poor so blame that!

  • Let's keep in mind here that this was a challenge to see how they did it. I just answered that. Based on the abysmal picture quality, poor frame rate and the wobbly artifacts in the shot, I wouldn't touch this 'HD' phone with a bargepole. HD is a very big catch all term and I as an industry professional wouldn't get sucked in by any of it. You want an HD camera, get a Red One.

Suffice to say I don't own anything by Samsung... :)

(except maybe some components in Apple products!)

  • nice job

  • well done

  • Very nice mate, what company are you working for. We have a sort of mirage video that needs editing. Or you could do it privately, 30 sec ad basically..My company have £4,500. Whats your minimum. (2 more short fill-in, 10sec each)

    Cheers

    Sean Hutton: Producer

  • The website address is at the end of the movie. Drop them an email and someone will get back to you if you're serious.

  • Seems like a reasonable explanation. Hope they hire you.

  • i think they did a pretty good job if you only just watch it once or even twice... after all they didnt have the budget that NASA had for the moon landings... oh man dont get me started on that one.

  • Good analysis, but didn't note that the Samsung logo is clearly contrived with only some letters backwards, and that there are reflections on the camera, which is in reality matte black.

  • yeah and you can clearly see the collar of the shirt that the man with the real camera .

  • I can tell you, if I had the budget these guys had to make this, it would be seamless! It's all in the choreography, planning and setting up.

Check the Mark Brothers film Duck Soup or an old Chaplin film from almost 90 years ago called the Floorwalker, it's an old trick but with the right actors you can pull it off without a flaw.

  • great analysis! i only noticed the leg position when i first watched the video.

  • this analysis is absolutely correct. very good. but even the best production people can happen minor errors. but they happen, but your eye is to slow to see them in motion!

    very good!

  • Agreed, but when they lay down a challenge like this, it had better be good!
