Jeffrey Sachs thinks aid is good for Africa. Can he tell us why poverty continues to get worse despite aid flowing to the continent. There must be a different approach to fighting poverty. Aid is not helping it is making African leaders not able to devise plans to get themselves out of poverty. No nation has ever developed by relying entirely on aid.

French, British and US Multinational corporations pay bribes to corrupt regimes in Nigeria, Gabon, Guinea, Angola, Congo just to loot resources.

I agree with Moyo. The western countries won't open up their markets to goods n services from developing countries. China n India has been successful in exporting goods n services 2 western countries n in a matter of few decades millions have come out of poverty. Instead of aid west should set up factories or train ppl of 3rd world countries become entrepreneurs n thereby create jobs. By keeping Africans poor it is easy 4 west 2 siphon off the resources of Africa.

they would never be advocates of invasion, so how can they seriously call for better leadership while advocating for aid that only further buttress those corrupt leaders in power and making it harder for a middle class to develop to keep leadership accountable while keeping the majority dependent on those same handouts that come to them from the rich countries via those leaders. those who speak like this are so disingenuous because they know that aid is only empowering these corrupt leaders

in every video i am seeing on this issue the same counter argument is being raise. That aid is not the issue and its really leadership. These same people who make such an argument would never be in favor of rich countries invading corrupt African countries overthrowing the "leadership" that is the problem and install good leadership would could use the aid in an uncorrupt separate and apart from proper economic development

leadership is the problem that needs to be addressed... this is a process and political reforms and accountability to donations should be stricter...once checks and balances are created for the african leadership, all will be smooth in the long run. Ghana has proved that it works when JJ. Rawlings asked for tractors to farm as opposed to money.donate machinery and trust me, the corrupt leaders are not interested in pimping a truck and hit the road to show off.

Aid will only cripple Africa...teach someone how to catch the fish don't just go about getting the fish for the person...show some tough love whereby the receiver ends up swimming by themselves.Infact this is like a tactic to keep Africans down...But wait, African leaders are the root of the problem, how do you uproot a tree, from the root,,,not by removing the branches, you will remove the branches 4eva...So emphasis should be on political reform...

Mr. Collier is flip-floping, he says aid is good in one hand and in other hand he says trade is good. Both are conflicting ideas, if one accepts aid, it will be very difficult to get off of that addiction and pursue in developing manpower.

Answering Mohamad's question, African leaders are very happy to be reciving aid, and they are not interested in getting off of it. Its like some one asking to clean your house, wash your dity cloth for free and keep everything ordererly, who would refuse???

Foreign Aid in the form of medicine and fertilizer does help Africa, but what comes to Africa is the food produced in the West, and that is bad for Africa to grow. Africans must strive in their own to achieve the needed food production and join the other emerging markets.

Eritrea implemented a brilliant and unique self-reliance program and kicked out the self-serving aid agencies and walked away from a 200 million a year foreign aid.

Eritrea as a beacon of hope for the African continent has proven to the world, and particularly to Africans, life exists outside the walls of the IMF, UN, World Bank and the various self-serving NGO's.

if africans made revolutions that were for the people,then the distrubution of wealth would be just fine.and muslim west african nations(mali,senegal,mauritani a,etc.should have islamic revolutions.if usa didnt help already rich israel than those good old tax dollars could go to people who need it.but the west would invade africa.kind of like sudan.were was usa then 8 yrs ago?but now china has its control over africa so its '''human rights issue''' in darfur now huh??wake up folks.

the aid should not be in food, and meds and such...that only provides profit for the country giving, and a stunt in growth for the country in need. creates a wellfare state. proper aid would be aiding the country's production of its resourses, and flow of its own economy. Instead bigger countries prohibit that the same way Walmart comes in a small town and provides goods at an cheap prices...at the same time smothering the town.
