i dont get something on the video at 3.44 the black bishop moves to g3 then the pawn in front of it takes it by stepping forward i thought pawns could only attack one step diagonal
White has already traded bishops, Black recaptures then white plays g3. I thought it looked a little weird at first, but yes, black's bishop goes first i think. :)
There's one move that I simply can't understand, but I'm sure I must be missing something. @ 6:52, the position immediately after Kasparov's moved his rook all the way to c1. Why doesn't white take black's queen with the rook? Then black takes rook (Re1xe3) and white rook takes black room (Rd1xc1). White takes black's queen and a rook for the cost of a rook... right?
following pXb4 Karpov should have played Na4 to c3 followed by Be4 then white bishop must take it or loose knight or bishop. Karpovs next move would be Rook f1 to e1 and black has no further threat. The best outcome for white is to sacrifice knights and bishops and white comes out of the whole situation a pawn up!!!!!
There is NO recorded loss of bobby fischer in any BLITZ game in his glory years. On the contrary, just prior to meeting spassky for the world championship clash of 1972, the soviets hatched the plan of inviting fischer to moscow for a blitz tournament , no doubt hoping that a few defeats would dent his confidence before Iceland. They lined up Tal, petrosian, and bronstien and a host of other heavy weight blitz players. Result? 14 wins / 2 draws!! Poor spassky, realized what he had to face!!!
@waywardize Kasparov is the greatest , but Fischer might have had the most potential ever . Remember that Kasparov grew up being coached by masters and grandmasters . In school he was playing guys that would go on to be master level players . The Soviets had several dozen guys that were among the worlds best over the years . Fischer had none of this . He had a chess board and some chess books . He was sadly crippled by mental illness in the end , so we will never know .
This game no doubt, is the most brilliant game in chess. But Karpov allowed it to happen this way: he sturbonly hanged on to the pawn n forgot to play the game !
the machines operating now are not unbeatable at all, not even rybka. i play a lot of corres' chess on iccf where engine use is permitted, and if it was such a big factor all games would be perfect and end in draws. and if its so 'preposterous' then why didnt ibm release the logs, we could all see what it had thought, kasp would have his mind put at rest. and who would it benefit most? ibm of course, so why didnt they? hm! go figure little man
I'm just starting to look for my favourite game of all time -Short vs J Polgar. If you haven't seen it then it will blow you away. Polgar effects the most incredible turnaround in chess history.
Well, check out some of the brilliant games played by Murphy, Fisher, Tal, Casablanka or Karpov. They certainly rival if not surpass this brillinat game played by Kasparov.
I lost a lot of respect for him when he accused Deep Blue of cheating--truly an act of an intelectually dishonest coward. Thanks for the spelling lesson, teach.
Lol, no problem. Kasparov accused Deep Blue of cheating because of he had beaten Deep Blue in 1996 fairly easily, and IBM had dismantled Deep Blue right after the win after Kasparov's accusation.
The only games I have seen better than this art piece was Fisher's immortal game.
That is not why Kasparov accused Deep Blue of cheating. In the movie, Kasparov accuses Deep Blue of cheating because it made a move that according to Kasparov, required human intellect. Dismantling Deep Blue would have not covered up anything, since Kasparov speciously claimed that Deep Blue cheated by combining human intellect with the computer's analytical ability. It was a ridiculous and baseless charge and Kasparov is a coward for making it.
intellectual coward?? do u have a clue what ur talking about, or chess in general. its well known that no access at any point was permitted to deep blue and never were the logs revealed as ibm had promised kasp they wud be. kasp was cheated and if u knew anything about chess u wud know this as well. after kasp won the first match he gladly accepted a rematch ibm however were never so gracious, and altho they said it was all in name of research they dismantled deep blue rigth after the match!
Whoa, take it easy little man--the vein on your forehead is about to burst. All you're doing is feeding into a preposterous conspiracy theory. Are you aware that the machines that are operating right now are virtually unbeatable? Are they all cheating? How exactly did Deep Blue cheat--and how would dismantling Deep Blue have covered up the indiscretion--please enlighten me.
actually there is evidence to suggest that something controversial was going on. The thing is this: IBM was asked to prove that everything was legit - and even though they would have no problem providing such proofs, they didn't. Then the natural question is simple - 'why not?'. I'm not saying that they did in fact cheat - but I am saying that they may have and that they had good reason to do it.
If - then how did DB cheat? Simple: Man+machine is superior to either.
Doesn;t just take but " tortures him positionally" LOL
