  • Awesome tutorial!!! my crochet look-a-like (not the same though) coming along great! Thanks for your help :)

  • Great pattern and crochet gets better with practice :D

  • @iKNITS,

Can the same principle of increasing (then decreasing) in the center of the headband be applied to making a crochet look-a-like?

  • @lopezgreg100 ooo I don't know. I'm not the best crocheter. I would think so..

  • do u mean 10mm or size 10 i don't understand that part?

  • @lmhaley319 Size 10 knitting needles

  • I have not attempted knitting in over a year.I never practiced enough to become very good. I was laughing at myself because I would get to about row 6 or 7 mess something up and rip it all out because for the life of me I couldn't tell where my problem was. This happened about 15-20 times. With your instruction, the pause/rewind button and a lot of patience I am now proficient at both stitches and can fix any mistakes I make without ripping out all stitches! Thank you for this clear and easy to

  • @idri55ve that's so good to hear that you're getting better! I can't wait to see how yours turned out!

  • What do you mean by don't increase on a purl row? Didn't you do that at 6:47?

  • @19touyuber I think I just meant when you start the increase, make sure it's on a knit row. But yes you're right, you knit 1 strand knit 1 strand on a knit row to increase one stitch, then the next row (which starts with a purl) you either M1f or M1B to increase one stitch.

  • I'm going to try this tomorrow. I'm a beginner..so hopefully I get it right.

  • Hey! somehow i ended up with an even number of knits on my needle, how to i get to odd again so i can start doin rows 5-12 again?

  • @fudychicsGurl Totally just started over and figured out the problem. You are such a good teacher!! thanks for explaining every step and row for beginners like me :p

  • @fudychicsGurl I'm so glad you figured out the problem! Send a pic of it when it's done on the Facebook page! I'd love to see how it turned out! And maybe you can inspire my friend, she wants to make one, but has never knit before, so if you can do it as a beginner, so can she!!!

  • I don't know why, but each time I do this, it doesn't look right! I can't even get past step four :c

    I think I need a little help.

  • @JadeSilverwing How can I help you?

  • @JadeSilverwing that's alright, that's a good question..It just means to use both ends of the yarn. There should be two of them, one should be on the outside, and the other on the inside, so you're gonna have to dig for it haha. And then knit with both of them together :)

  • i love this! Thank you!!!! :)

  • Thank you for filming from start to finish. I will definitely give this a try. I am new to knitting but have been totally addicted! Lol so done with knitting scarves! Now the girls need matching headbands! Thanks, again!

  • Thanks for your reply. Started a new headband and increase is perfect, Thanks again.

  • Made one, but messed up in increase somewhere, made a funky design in the middle so i left it. When you say kept in increase patt, does that mean to repeat from 5 to 12 to get your 23st. Want to make another,I have 3 flowers made already.I really like your video

  • @hummingbird260 Yes, keep repeating rows 5-12, but the more you increase, the more stitches you have so you'll have to knit and purl more stitches, just in the middle you need to make your increase stitches for rows 5, 6, 9, and 10. Does that make sense?

  • Hi! love your way of instructing! What weight is the yarn that you used?

  • @MegaAnalytical Hey, thank you! It's worsted weight

  • I would love to see if you have a video on your way of casting on. I have watched over and over and, just can not do it on one needle. You are awesome.

  • @gingerngeorgia it's one of the first videos I've made, it won't let me post the URL on this comment so I'll send it to you in a message if you can't find it on my channel.

  • Yes, that does make sense. I thought of that actually, but I wasn't sure if the other side was equal! because doing it the way I did now barely fits my son's head and that was after adding a few inches to the end. thanks I will try to just add to the top. thanks.

  • @TheSdecker2 I think my yarn is thinner though, because my flowers seem really small too.

  • How would I use this pattern if I'm using bulky yarn instead of two strings? How do I manage the increase? Thanks!!

  • Who taught you to knit because that is very different from the way I learned?

  • @Fancygirl229 my mother in law, and the internet haha. How is it different from you?

  • You R AwESOMe!!! Subscribed for sure!!

  • I've been doing the pattern by Tif over at T. Matthews Fine Art and I saw your link from there! Genius thing to do the double yarn, do you think this way is quicker or easier, IYO?

  • @guitargirlae I'm glad you found it! Umm, I'm not sure if it's quicker or easier, but it looks a lot better! What was bothering me with Tif's pattern is that the "V" lines don't match up, it's like every other row, and I wanted it to look more like a V, if that makes sense. But I think she did an awesome job! Both ways are great, I just think mine looks a little cleaner. What does IYO mean?

  • @iKNITS It just means "in your opinion". :) I'm trying to pattern out right now so I'll let you know how it looks when I'm done! I do LOVE the fact that I don't have to kfb or pfb. That was my least favorite part about the other one. :)

  • @guitargirlae haha i hate doing those too! Ya let me know how it works, or I'd love to see a pic of it!

  • Love this video! What a great job she did explaining and slowing down to show what she is doing. Very soothing voice too! Thanks for putting this out there!

  • @Zricherson Thanks so much for the comment. This definitely made my day, and makes it all worth making these videos :)

  • You go back to repeating row 5 through row 12.

So you have to knit 1 strand, knit 1 strand, then the next row you M1F, then the next two rows you continue in rib pattern. That will leave you with 11 stitches.

Then the next row yu purl 1 strand, then the next strand, next row you M1B, then next two rows you continue in rib pattern. 13 stitches..Does that help?

  • the next 8 rows are all increasing or do i increase and rib 2 rows then increase again and rib next 2 rows?

  • At the end of the video with 9 stitches do you continue the "rib" pattern 2 times then repeat from the beginning of the video when you started the increases?

  • @jenglz11 No, you keep going for 8 more rows, the pattern is in the description on Headband part 3. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.

  • At the end of the video with 9 stitches do you continue the "rib" pattern 2 times then repeat from the beginning of the video when you started the increases?

  • Great way to explain step, by step. I follow your instructions and Wow! I made

my headband! thank you for being such great teacher.

  • Yes, that seems logical enough. I'm going to try it as soon as possible and I'll let you know how it all came out. Thanks again for your help. You're a great teacher! :-)

  • I knit one for my daughter and all her co-workers were ecstatic with headband!! One of the pharmacy techs wants me to knit one for her six year-old. What changes besides shortening it would you recommend?? She's been searching for one that will fit but with no luck. I'd be grateful for your input. Thanks again, Sirenita1955

  • @sirenita1955 awww yay! That's awesome that they loved it! Way to go!!! You normally increase 9 times to get 23 stitches right? I would increase 6 times, which gives you 17 stitches. and if that looks wide enough, stop increasing, and continue in rib pattern for a couple inches. Then start the decrease rows with 17 stitches....does that make sense? If you think you want it wider, I would increase one more time (19 stitches)

  • @iKNITS I looked through the comments before asking for a pattern for children, and I found this so I tried it. Here is what i learned, and maybe i should have known this, but I have only been knitting for about 48 hours haha anyways, I increased up to 17 stitches and then continued the pattern for a little over 2 inches, about 2.5 and then decreased. The headband is nowhere near long enough to go around the head of my 2 months old!

  • @iKNITS SO, for this one I am just going to continue the five stitch rib pattern for a few more rows after you bind off to make it long enough. In the future, do you suggest me just making the top plateauing section where you just rib for a few inches longer? I figure that will be best. Just wanted your opinion. thanks!

  • @iKNITS Oh, and I was wondering about decreasing, what I did was just start from the decrease that was at 17 stitches in the pattern and worked down. I assume that was right?

  • @TheSdecker2 How thick of yarn did you use? The decreasing should measure to be around the same length as the increase. So I would increase, then rib for a few inches, then see if it would be long enough if you decreased the same length as the increase. Does that make sense?

  • Awesome! I 'd been searching all over the internet for either the instructions or a video on the headband everybody's wearing until I came across your video. Thanks so much. Can't wait to start knitting my own!!!

  • @sirenita1955 no problem! Let me know if you have any questions :)
