  • Will Leon be performing anytime soon in the SF Bay Area again?

  • SUPER song!! Here's a little known snippet - Leon played on "The Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt Kickers ;-}

  • @whitehawkeFLA

Hi WhitehawkeFla, Leon played on many songs. He was a session musician for many years before going solo. He was one of the many "Wrecking Crew" along with the likes of Billy Strange, David Gates, Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, Glen Campbell and many many more. They played on thousands of hits as not many bands were allowed to play their own instruments on their studio records.

  • @whitehawkeFLA

They won't let me post a link here, but look up "the wrecking crew(music) on wikipedia.

  • what and incredible talent.

  • Mad Dogs and Englishmen, oh hell yeah. Thanx for sending this to me. I have always loved Leon Russell and I'm so glad he's still around. I miss his Top Hat though. Great times, greater music.

  • I tink that anyone who didn't think leon russell was a star40 years ago was living in a cave or lost in the sixties and never came back.from gary lewis and the playboys to being the driving force behindthat fabulous vocalist Joe cocker and mad dogs to his great performance at the Garden with all those super stars in a concert for bangaladesh, the album state of mind.come on man give him his due he was and is great.any one knowing of where he'll be playing in or around Myrtle Beach please post it.

  • I always wondered where Leon disappeared.

Now, 40 years later, I've found a not so flattering music/vid of him on youtube.

He didn't do so well in the live concert venues back then either. Kinda' Joe Cockeresque drunk sort'a character.

    Helluva pianist and lyricist though.

And beat Michael McDonald to stardom, no matter how fleeting.

  • To: Boudica13, I saw Leon perform last summer in Bloomington, IN - place called Uncle Fester's. Great show, but with a cowboy hat instead of a top hat. Lots of good music moves through that town.

  • Is Leon Russel still around? The reason I ask is because I was a fan of his way back when. When he use to wear those top hats while playing piano.

He was a force to be that I thought would never end. But I rarely hear of him anymore. Can someone give me some info on him?

  • Yes he's still around played Charleston SC. a few months back

  • el es el autor de esta magnifica cancion?

  • leon and I had the best time backstage and on his bus yep it was amazing

  • well sry but you were used as a slut, nothing more nothing less

  • amazing niteeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • OMG I was honored... to say the least

    we hung out all nite

  • he was amazin so sweet

  • Pinkindia, he's the one person in the whole world I would give my left leg to meet and hang out with. I wish I were you for that hour or how ever long it was.

  • hes is the best met him hung out with leon hes amazing

  • Leon was a great performer at one time. I have seen him several times recently and his shows vary in quality. I personally wish he would get rid of the loud electric piano and go back to playing a regular non-

electric piano and concentrate on his vocals. I would also like to hear some of his new material. Also, saying a few words to the audience would help.

  • I totally agree with you. I saw him a couple of years ago and the electric piano really drowned out his vocals. I remember seeing him many times in the 70's when he was on the regular keyboard piano and DAMN,......no one could touch him. He was thunderous and oh so nasty!!!! I still love Leon, tho...always will. Great songwriter.

  • Thanks to nanirobin for the info about Al Green...he's really gifted and a super talented Christian singer also...I heard Leon do Amazing Grace ...it was so awesome...I wonder if he is also a Christian?

  • Beyond awesome. My uncle was friends with Leon for many, many years, and I didn't know if he was even still alive. But alas, I've been saved! Woo Hoo!!!

  • go find the 1971 version.......way better

  • Just saw Leon a couple days ago in South Bend, IN. It was 20 degrees below zero and only a handful of people attended the concert. What a genious Leon Russell truly is! Viva Leon!!!

  • Does anyone else think that Leon ~Russell has always been under rated as a singer and entertainer....he is always professional and gives his heart to each song! I love his style of singing!

  • @jazz guy. I've been on twitter trying to rally people to get Leon inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. C'mon people. I haven't seen him perform in a long time. Saw him many many times in the 70's. i missed his show in s. Ca in may. hope he comes back soon.

  • Good move jazz . He was certainly a great contributor to rock n roll, from the early years with Gary Lewis and the playboys phil spector to mad dogs and Englishmen.I'm sure that Joe cocker would give a nod

  • wow, I'm surprised he's not already in the R&R Hall of Fame.

  • Yes, I thought so. I'm glad to know that Leon did write A Song For YOu, and Donny Hathaway just covered it. Thanks to zimmie57!

  • tahrlis...thanks for the information...Donny Hathaway...cool...he has many great songs to his credit...such as Let's Stay Together or did Al Green write that...if you please send me a reply...yes, Leon does it very well indeed! I think he has Mastered this song..ha!

  • Leon Did Write "A Song For You"

  • leon wrote that just like Al green wrote the other I have seen them both

  • mANY TRY TO SING THIS SONG...but no one does it like Leon..it's his song...and he makes it our song...Yes, its really Your Song Mr. Leon Russel Claude bridges over troubled water!

  • Well, technically it's Donny Hathaway's song, since he wrote it, and recorded it first. But Leon does it proud.

  • Afraid not. Check the liner notes. Leon wrote this. Many artists have covered it since. Donny's version is truly spine-tingling though for sure.

  • I stand corrected. Thank you.

  • Claude Russell Bridges rules! MoSaT! Why in the world isn't he in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame?????? A powerhouse! Enormous talent flowing non-stop thru 5 decades.

  • (LMAO @ that comment) Leon Russell_Who is he? Answer = #1 Master Forever & Eternity! Period!

  • theres only one MASTER OF SPACE AND TIME

    that's Claude

    Kind Regards/Robert
