Semantics aside, is the world better for the CIA having deposed the president of Iran in 1953, leading to a chain that cumulated in 1979? Are the 2m+ Vietnamese civilians killed in that war, only to see the country turn commie anyway, 'better off?' How about the 10,000s of Afghanis who died for the absurd goal of Afghan becoming a western democracy? Or Indonesia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Congo, etc...
The sad fact is that those countries 'helped' by the US are some of the worst off in the world.

@zyodei You're correct. All candidates need to have a strong plan. I assume you're a Dr. Paul fan. Good for you. I too agree with nearly all of Dr. Paul's prescriptions for the economy. However, his isolationist tendencies are troubling. There has to be a meeting in the middle, because the world is definitely a better place with a strong and proactive U.S. exerting our influence.

@Hollywood4Cain Yes, you are correct. But let us be clear on one definition: there are no 'isolationists' in the world, the word was first invented as a smear against those who did not want to join WWI.
The foundation of peace, security, and mutual prosperity is TRADE. Economics drives the world, and countries that trade together tend not to fight.
The term is non-interventionist.
All that being said, a situation where we borrow from China to prop up Arab dictators is insane.

I have tremendous faith in our political class to always find someone even worse than the awful leader they choose today.

@Hollywood4Cain However, I might vote for Herman Cain. He's no politician. He has had a real job (and succeeded with CAPITALISM) unlike Obama the community organizer (who has no clue). However, we need to reduce our military around the world and send the remaining ones to protect our borders (that way, military jobs are maintained), but we need to cut foreign aid. Our country is in a recession, and we can't afford to send billions to other countries while our own people suffer.

As a side note...the influence the US needs to exert is an influence of ideas. We need to be the 'city on the hill,' setting an example for the whole world to follow. THAT is the vision of America. A system where we go around forcefully trying to set up our system in other countries is bound create the opposite. For one, no one likes to feel like they are being forced to do something; the natural human tendency is to push in the opposite direction. 2, if we go broke in the process, game over.

@zyodei The 9-9-9 plan. Lower taxes for most, raise taxes for those who don't pay taxes (the disabled and retired seniors, too bad they can change their spending behavior - it will encourage them to save money - although disabled on SSI can only save 2000 before they get their benefits cut). Privatize social security. Send entitlements to the states where they can SHRED them like some did with welfare.

@jfsfrnd Sounds nice on paper, and I certainly see its appeal. Two issues: 1) In effect, it is a massive tax cut on the rich. Not exactly going to go over well in the current climate. 2) The problem isn't really the tax code. The problem is spending and the size of government. Without massive spending cuts, who cares about the tax rate? Cain makes no solid recommendations of what exactly he wants to cut. Just that 'everything will be on the table.' Except, presumably, our bloated military.

@zyodei Appeal? I was complaining and paraphrasing what Cain said in different videos I have watched. He said he wants to sent entitlements to the states in the form of block grants. That's what was done with welfare and the states are shredding the program. Do we want Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security sent to the states as block grants? Do we want time limits on these programs that help children, disabled and seniors? I don't. He claims it will bring ''freedom'' to Americans.
