3DV developed the Zcam but did not invent time of flight, they just found a method to make it affordable. Time-of-Flight camera's like Zcam-Natal send infrared pulses that bounce off objects so that the camera can evaluate the room in realtime 3D, in other words, expensive. Natal uses a combination of technologies that go beyond 3DV's Zcam but probably borrowed ideas to make it cheap, the built in processor and engineered programming with facial recognition and voice recognition speak volumes.

I think everyone is missing the point. Unlike the EyeToy and Xbox Live Cam, this camera detects depth (a 3D camera). Why is this important? The gaming community has been making a push for 3-dimensional games, and with the 3DV, head tracking will now be possible. Look it up to see why this will be revolutionary. Think 3D without the silly glasses.

MS isn't thinking Wii games - they're thinking 3D, I guarantee it. This may very well be a major coup.

Sony started the whole thing with eyetoy. This is eyetoy+. Sony will probably have their own eyetoy+, perhaps with new controller peripheral, at E3. Neither Microsoft or Sony are likely to make it the standard for their systems though.

It isn't copying Sony retard. Sony is doing 3D visual. Microsoft is doing 3D interface via hand gestures. I assume Nintendo will be using head tracking from the famous video not long ago.

Only problem with Mgestyk atm is a little bit of delay.

IF it is going to be used for game console use they will probably implement it next generation and make it the only usable interface. The more than likely use will be used for computers (ala Minority Report).

Before people make comments in the future about new technologies, just forget who is making them. I bet if Sony or Nintendo was doing this you would all have a technogasm. But you instantly say it's shit because Microsoft is attached. Shame on all of you. Don't bag until you've tried it.

Who is making them is not the point, is just that this is not exactly new.

PS2/3 has something similar, even the new DSi can do something like this.

Let's change the point of view, if the Wiimote was something present on the X360 and PS3 and Nintendo was making the Wiimotion plus for the Wii it won't be "that amazing". It wold be like the Wiimote for X360/PS3, but more precise.

I have all three consoles already. Wii-motion+ does not seem interesting to me at all. Why? Because it ALSO is nothing new, just increased functionality which btw will have issues. Not every one will have this addon. Software will need to be written for both types of users = bad. Majority of Wii users won't realise Wiimotion+ exists.

A working hand-gesture interface is more interesting and complex than the Wii. It has many more implications. Again, this technology is not just about games.

You are wrong in one point. The Wii Motion Plus isn't a Wii Balance Board, the developers are prety excited to make use of it.

It is even possible that Nintendo include the motion plus in the Wiiremote package later on.

Changing subject, the future is really bright, I can't wait for the Next Generation starting 2011-2012!

the wii motion plus is just a motion sensing addon for a controller who's soul gimmick is that it's motion sensing... I really agree with you, paying for an addon to an already expensive controller is better than something you can just walk up to and use without paying for extra controllers :)

Imagine if all games could be played without controllers? Obviously not all games would translate well straight away. It would depend on the developers.

What Nintendo / Sony / Microsoft need to do is combine Sony's 3D glasses, Nintendo's Headtracking, Microsoft's hand interface and you have the best game console ever made. They won't because it's all about money.
