  • Could you please explain the technical terms of compression and echo?

  • Vern and Rex harmonizing, Vern fingerpicking and clarence *noodling* around..

The whole "Sounds of Goodbye" album is stellar.

  • "Greatest country single of all time"? Maybe. It's awfully good anyway you slice it!

  • wow!! I never heard this little beauty before..thx 4 posting...Phyllis...

  • Man GREAT STUFF!! Thanks for postin

  • Great song + The Voice....it just doesn't get any better. Today's (classic rock styled) country doesn't have the depth of emotion. RIP V.G.

  • Real Country as it was before todays' rubbish

  • Hangin' On by the Gosdin Brothers; real country!!!!!!!

  • Great country music classic!!!! Enjoy real music!!!!!!!

  • fANTASTIC!

  • Always beautiful, Vern Gosdin .. THE VOICE. I love him . Evie

  • I love this old song. I first heard it by The Wilburn Brothers years ago. Vern and his brother sound terrific here. This is another pure country song that had such a great writer that says so much. Thanks for posting. - Paula

  • Hi back at cha. We met Vern at The Nashville Palace back in the 90's and he sounded as wonderful as ever. His unforgettable voice is so enjoyable and it was a thrill to be able to sit and just listen to him. I wish I'd heard his brother in the past - in fact I didn't know for a long time that he recorded, too.

Yes, Vern and Gene are the cream of the crop - always on top for all of us fans of theirs. - Paula

  • Sigh...Young girls cry healing tears of a broken heart to this version...including me...even now.

    Always,

    Your Velvet

  • THANKS FOR POSTING!!! I don't give a shit where it was recorded, just keep it coming !!

  • VERY NICE TKS

  • What do you mean "Bakersfield sessions"? It was not recorded in Bakersfield, and the label is a Hollywood label.

  • I mean specifically what I said. This was one of at least four sides released on the BAKERSFIELD Int'l label, as opposed to the slightly earlier EDICT releases, the later COLUMBIA release, and the simply awful CAPITOL re-release of this and other tracks done with it. As far as to where it was recorded, I have at least three conflicting stories about that, and I have been trying to get Mr. Paxton to reveal that for two decades, as well as the main processing used.

  • I even asked his nephew on here, earlier in the year. MY best guess is different...that it was cut at Gold Star and mastered and sweetened at Capitol. That's because neither Capitol nor Era ever came close to this compression. I did, at dozens of radio stations during this period, and still do with my custom processors. By the way, the audio (which YouTube doesn't handle well) on this video was pulled directly from my 1967 BI single, using all tube equipment and no EQ or processing.

  • @mugwump790 i appreciate it. i can hear it i just know it. an amazing, well rounded sound versus some of the others out there. which i still listen to btw

  • mugwump790 ~ Gary S Paxton is my uncle!

  • I hope he's doing well. He created a good bit of magic, and this is not the least of it! My best to you and him! Could you ask him a question? Was the outstanding reverb done at the Capitol Tower? Thanks...

  • thats your problem

  • RIP Vern!!

  • Amen! I bet he and Rex had a lot of catching up to do...

  • Ace records put out a Gosdin Bros CD- which I had the pleasure to remix (some tracks) called- the Sounds of Goodbye- also check out Bakersfield rebels- also on ACE

  • does anyone have more gosdin brothers please help thanks

  • Excellent song, first time I've ever heard this version.

  • Please add &fmt-19 to the address line if this does not play in Hi-Res.
