When I spar in a ring its way different from sparring in a open area.I allways see ppl arguing about mma fighters and I guess traditional martial artist. though combat sports are limited and bound by rules it gives u something that I dnt see to many martial art classes give.
I think the world has gotten softer when it comes to how martial arts is tought. For example like in boxing I used to work on slipping punches i notice people do this drill and would throw there punches so it would not hit there partner. But what its really doing is cheating ur partner out ov something very important and filling him with false confidence and thats what i think is wrong with alot of martial arts.
when i did kung fu my sensei would lay hell into me to make me stronger, more flexible and what ever. i knew he meant well and it did me wonders. but im doing taekwondo now and my senior isnt even aloud to kick my legs out during hamstring training. the worlds defo gone soft :(

However, steps are being taken to address that problem with changes in the curriculum to make the students better by implementing drills focusing on uncertainty and unpredictability and being able to improvise. I hope more martial arts schools are doing the same. Every martial art has the capacity as the one in the video does. It all depends on what mindset one is in.
@meech407 exactly, there's no point in throwing an attack that isn't going to actually make some contact, even light contact. why would anyone want to or need to block an attack that isn't actually going to connect in the first place? you get stuck in the pattern of "i don't have to work that hard to block the attack because its not going to hit me anyway" and when you go up against someone who's actually out to take your head off then that's probably exactly what's going to happen.

Well if it was a face to face fight the Korean soldier might find it difficult to do these moves depending on how much of a fighter the enemy is. But he may still be able to subdue him with his fast punches and kicks. And most of the time on the battlefield you won't be able to confront an enemy face to face without him shooting you so most of these techniques would be used for surprise attacks.
A scenario could be that you get lost from your squad, you run out of ammo and then you creep up behind a rock and see 2 enemies on patrol. So you run up behind one and kick him in the back so he falls on the ground and then turn to the other enemy who is still surprised to see whats happening and jap him in the throat with the same force they use to break concrete and marble in demonstrations, and then as the other guy is getting up tornado kick him and stomp on his throat when he's down. :)

In Vietnam, many US Marines commented on how impressive the Korean Marines (ROK Marines) would be. The USMC would describe the "ROCK MARINES" as some of the toughest men they have ever met, kind people with devastating kicks. There's no fight if they get you with the first kick. In the book "GUNS UP", a marine described a village of NVA that was wiped out with no shots fired on the enemy, just contusions and stab wounds by the ROK Marines on NVA troops.

The above video shows Taekuk musul, which is from TaeKwonDo. the handskill of TaeKwonDo is very deadly, which is never used in sport. There is a big difference in teaching when TaeKwonDo or TaeKuk Musul is taught to combat or to sport. The purpose of combat is the killing. It is taught with knife. No spinning kick.
TKD can be used to an extent. Taekkyon or w.e looks more useful though. Id really like to see a match betweeen TKD master with all of TKD, vs. something else.

Our para military is trained with LINE combat. The combat from China is impressive in forms of following long combat structures, but structures can be defeated. We improvise.

This is a demonstration not how they train as the Korean military actually uses mix-martial art. The Korean Marines during Vietnam (who also has their own martial art systems) Taekwondo though does teach elbows, knees, head-butts, and even eye-gauging, but people tend to emphasis the high flashy kicks.

You have to realize that when Koreans were doing TKD in Vietnam, martial arts was still a rare thing. When your opposition has no MA skills and you have Korean marines in battle fit and disciplined soldiers cracking bricks with heads after jumping over 5 guys had an effect psychologically, troop morale, etc.. When US armed forces adopted MA into their training regiment, they cited korean marines' practice of TKD as an example.
My father was trained by the Tiger Battalion in TKD. They have found VC soldier's bodies with their heads smashed in, jaws hanging loose, or chests concaved due to hand to hand fighting with the Korean soldiers. Try telling these guys to point spar, I am sure the olympic TKD must be shut down due to "accidents".

Read the book "Guns Up". It is a true story autobiography of a US Marine that met a Korean platoon that eliminated an entire Viet Cong base with no shots fired.
One of my instructors, Grand Master J. Park, actually used Hapkido and Taekwondo to escape a vietcong POW camp. They are actually making a movie of him in Korea, and he is a hero of his country. i have trained in this art. (tukkong moosool). It is developed for the agents protecting the president of Southkorea and for the elite army units. There are civilian dojangs scattered around korea, where i trained and then they have the elite military schools, where the soldiers learn the stuff. You know, how to kill someone with a spade, and other useful stuff. The instructors still are actively employed by the ROK to train the elite and they are always trying new stuff.

impressive martial arts, but it unlikely that, if you hit someone on the chest they will fall towards you so, you can cut his throat, and you cannot expect someone to fly and flip as you kick the person, real life is not the matrix. that person vrs person demostration kinda lost me. I dont want too see our men making a mistake thinking they could just punch someone and that person is gonna flip and stay down down like in the movies, they should focus on whats likely happen.

Well if it was a face to face fight the Korean soldier might find it difficult to do these moves depending on how much of a fighter the enemy is. But he may still be able to subdue him with his fast punches and kicks. And most of the time on the battlefield you won't be able to confront an enemy face to face without him shooting you so most of these techniques would be used for surprise attacks.

A scenario could be that you get lost from your squad, you run out of ammo and then you creep up behind a rock and see 2 enemies on patrol. So you run up behind one and kick him in the back so he falls on the ground and then turn to the other enemy who is still surprised to see whats happening and jap him in the throat with the same force they use to break concrete and marble in demonstrations, and then as the other guy is getting up tornado kick him and stomp on his throat when he's down. :)

Don't confuse sport Taekwondo with military Taekwondo. It's two versions of the same thing. This "Tukong" and "Sulsado" is crap. It's Taekwondo for the military, which is where Taekwondo started.
And most of the stuff they showed is stuff I've done at one point or other.

In Vietnam, many US Marines commented on how impressive the Korean Marines (ROK Marines) would be. The USMC would describe the "ROCK MARINES" as some of the toughest men they have ever met, kind people with devastating kicks. There's no fight if they get you with the first kick. In the book "GUNS UP", a marine described a village of NVA that was wiped out with no shots fired on the enemy, just contusions and stab wounds by the ROK Marines on NVA troops.

There is no difference in hand-to-hand battle between 1967 or 2008. Believe or not, TaeKwonDo is military art unlike karate or kung fu. The above video shows Taekuk musul, which is from TaeKwonDo. the handskill of TaeKwonDo is very deadly, which is never used in sport. There is a big difference in teaching when TaeKwonDo or TaeKuk Musul is taught to combat or to sport. The purpose of combat is the killing. It is taught with knife. No spinning kick.

Our para military is trained with LINE combat. The combat from China is impressive in forms of following long combat structures, but structures can be defeated. We improvise.

This is a demonstration not how they train as the Korean military actually uses mix-martial art. The Korean Marines during Vietnam (who also has their own martial art systems) Taekwondo though does teach elbows, knees, head-butts, and even eye-gauging, but people tend to emphasis the high flashy kicks.

You have to realize that when Koreans were doing TKD in Vietnam, martial arts was still a rare thing. When your opposition has no MA skills and you have Korean marines in battle fit and disciplined soldiers cracking bricks with heads after jumping over 5 guys had an effect psychologically, troop morale, etc.. When US armed forces adopted MA into their training regiment, they cited korean marines' practice of TKD as an example.

They have found VC soldier's bodies with their heads smashed in, jaws hanging loose, or chests concaved due to hand to hand fighting with the Korean soldiers. Read the book "Guns Up". It is a true story autobiography of a US Marine that met a Korean platoon that eliminated an entire Viet Cong base with no shots fired.
One of my instructors, Grand Master J. Park, actually used Hapkido and Taekwondo to escape a vietcong POW camp. They are actually making a movie of him in Korea, and he is a hero of his country. I love it when uneducated people comment about how things won't work, just because they don't know how to do it.

However, I would like to say the United States Marine Corps has their own martial art program, and whenever South Korean military officials come to Okie, they cross-train, not just the South Koreans training Marines.

i have trained in this art. (tukkong moosool). It is developed for the agents protecting the president of Southkorea and for the elite army units. There are civilian dojangs scattered around korea, where i trained and then they have the elite military schools, where the soldiers learn the stuff. You know, how to kill someone with a spade, and other useful stuff. The instructors still are actively employed by the ROK to train the elite and they are always trying new stuff.
