@BEMUSED3256 We are certainly getting more beautiful images that interest the public with increased public interest some journalists tend to try to outdo each other in dramatic headlines.

The current cycle is different from the ones that we have been experiencing since I was a kid but that does not mean it is unprecidented or an omen of doom. The last cycle similar to this was about 100 years ago & our great great grandparents survived that OK.

@drkstrong with obama shutting down shuttle, the russians are letting space lab fall to earth building one of their own, cooping with china, military reasons, soon pictures like these will be unavailable, chandra and hubble will fall from orbit without shuttle to service them, Watching the sun, while spinning around at 1,000 mph, while traveling around the sun at 79,000 mph, trying to see through earths outer spin will leave us in the dark beyond anything affirmative, which is lame.obanomics??

@lassiecox Actually it was the Bush administration that closed down the Shuttle program - it had run its course. Bush also decided to end the Hubble program and replace it with JWST (a disaster).

These pictures come from spacecraft that will not re-enter the earth's atmosphere (SOHO, SDO, STEREO, GOES-N, etc.)

Doomed to watch Wall St continue to turn the scews tighter and tighter, doomed to more American Idol, Two and a half men, Jersey Shore and of course more lame stream media who only report on what they are told to. @zimmy81 Yessir, we're doomed--nothing to do with the sun, though...we're the only species whose lives are CONSUMED with drama, destruction, & death...so many people hung up on death that they live in their deaths, not lives. If the Earth is lucky, a sun flare will indeed zap us...sort of how we use ultraviolet light to kill germs, parasites, other nasties...we're the nastiest of the nasties on the Earth...she's probably saying to the Sun, "hey, get these freakin' things off me! Wtf?!"

You have it correct...notice how close together the C5.8-flare (flash) and the M1.4-flare (flash) where? Looked like an eruptive event with multi flaring to me...snap...crackle...pop! I was asked about your thesis..and I said you were correct without even seeing this video at the time. I for one should know as much as I observe...lol

i can clearly see a series of flares going off at the 131A, but on the other two temperatures, where I can only spot the last bigger flare...thnx 4 the vid.

@excavmarcelo We often have X-ray events without a CME (norm). Proton events are generally large flares and it is hard to contain such a large amount of energy such that there is no CME but I can think of some such events that had no CME (OBSERVED at least)

Could all flares be a product of multiple small bursts?

@rongrite Yes, if you count each magnetic field line reconnecting as a separate flare. I dont. In this case the bursts are all in different places, particularly the one that is the impulsive one tot he south which is the one that pushes the X-ray signal over the M level. So i think they are separate events.

Oops, after rewatching the AIA 131 temperature, you can see the actual flares that go off...each one is marked with the "X" flare on the lens effect again. 1:10 time frame is perfect to see each explosion seperate.

We will have to wait for a day or 2 so we can get a clear view of them to see how big they realy are.

Foreshortening is the effect of the fact the sun is a sphere. Take a balloon draw a big round black spot on it (felt pen not a ball point or BANG!) and look at front on. You see all of the spot. Now turn it so the spot is well to the left or right. While the virtical dimension is similar, the horizontal dimension looks much smaller - that is foreshortening.

Hmm, good question about the bursts, I think we can only say we saw one, "X" looking flare that hit the camera...the M one. Can a flares protons etc actually be seen before the light or blast out? I think light travels fasters, but mabye nuetrinos are hitting the earth Goes?....before the light is?

@papavalium No protons and they should be here with 30-60 minutes so this was not a proton event (makes me more convinced that this was not a genuine M flare
