Ever what that wierd Chorus pedal used in this video sounds better than an Electric Mistress to me. This guy really has the Andy Summers sound and chops down , Well done !
Hey man thats an amazing job and an amazing sounding Tele! I would like to hear about the build and specs! I have been a Strat guy for years, but I am taking a turn to Teles! I would like to build a similar guitar, thanks again!
@ChickenFaeces I have before, it's actually pretty similar to the Electric Mistress, but not quite as flange-y, together they make a lush blanket of sound. If you take one away, they both stand on their own nicely.
Thanks, I too got the Nashville neck and it fit wonderfully. I went with classic Fender bridge with brass compensated saddles and have also started a bit of the relic process. Next step is pick ups and electronics.
@ChickenFaeces if you are viewing the pedal from a top angle and consider the dots from left to right, 1-10, my RATE is set at 5, DEPTH is at 6 and the EFFECT LEVEL is at 8. Hope that helps, keeps it lush sounding. However, I just got a Deluxe Electric Mistress to add to my pedalboard and it sounds a lot more "Andy". After all, it IS the pedal he used in the Police, but I do love the Meistersinger.
@kbstarrider hey just make sure it's the right sized neck. I can attest only to the Fender Nashville neck, but it fit like a glove perfectly and plays amazing. I believe you are looking for a 7.5 radius if I'm not mistaken. Check on Squier's website, but this is made to fit most standard fender necks. Good luck!
Awesome! I've been thinking about doing this myself. I work in a store that had the "original" Fender Replica, and it's probably one of the coolest guitars i've ever seen/heard.
@RafoRamone good question, I'd have to literally sit there with two identical guitars, made the same exact way, with the two different bodies to even compare. I do know that maple tends to yield a brighter sound whenever it's used, so that could be good if it's what your going for. I have a feeling it won't affect the tone much at all, especially if you have the right set of pickups in there and there proper bridge. Let me know when you finish it!
@ThePizzapal yeah the wiring diagram is up on TDPRI, a telecaster forum, just search Andy Telecaster and you'll find all the knowledge you'll need and more. People there are extremely helpful and friendly. Look me up (policefan7). Also, the rout was done by someone who had access to a machine shop and he literally did it just like Andy's with 2 circular routs connected by a rectangular one. Works great.
awww i'm so jealous!!!! nice job man! might be getting a classic vibe too, btw where did you get that police line strap?? looks so awesome on a tele. thanks
Great video! Would have preferred a better vocal mic set up though - if I turned it up loud enough to hear your explanations, the guitar would blow me away! ; ) Great guitar though. I still think Summers is under-rated and arguably one of the top five rhythm guitarists of all time.
Thanks man, I'll change them soon enough and figure it out for myself. It crossed my mind to put a humbucker in the neck, but I'm not that into modified projects. I wanna keep the Custom look. I'll ask the technician at my local guitarshop if he can put a piece of wood or something in that gap ;)) Anyway, thanks man! BTW: Good job with your project, it's awesome!
Hey ia5662! I want to ask an opinion regarding your former Squier CVC Tele. I have it 2 and I made a little height adjustment to the neck pickup and when I opened the guard I noticed, like you siad, it has a humbucker rout. Soon I'll mount a set of Custom Shop Texas Special Pickups and i was wondering if you think that a single coil tele pickup in a humbucker slot will make a differnce in tone. I mean if the pickup will sound hollow due to it's lack of adderence to the wood. Please help, anyone!
@becherescu88 sure, the amount of wood routed out of a guitar can def. affect the tone, but honestly you are just replacing one single coil for another, so it shouldn't be a big change if any. obviously, the pickups you're putting in are higher quality so I'd expect them to sound a little hotter, but that would be about it.
@MrNegativelight I didn't find the pre-routed body to be too shallow, but I did find the pickup height to be set very high in relation to the single coil. This caused the guitar to be very unbalanced because as soon as that humbucker went on it was extremely loud compared to the bridge pickup. I ended up having my tech do the lowering and now the SD59 sits just about flush with the pickguard itself. Problem solved!
@ia5662 , ok.. yeah I found the sd59 "legs" quite long so Ive had to drill a bit to deepen the routed area..no big deal really....mine isnt flush with the pickguard..its raised a bit, hopefully itll be ok as my bridge single coil pickup is the hot for Tele sd...about 14k. it taps down to 7 k ish... still got to wire it..and pop in a phase switch...its not a true Summers tele, just " inspired by "!! cvc body, standard mim neck, sd pickups, gotoh .brass bridge etc ill post whenshe is done!.
I have a CVC Tele too! I'm working on modding it like Andy Summers as well, but I don't think I'm going to put in the boost. All I have left to do is get a new bridge and a humbucker for the neck.
How was routing for the humbucker? Did you do it yourself?
@bearsfonothin92 hang on to your pants man, the CVC is pre-routed for a neck humbucker! That's one of the main reasons I chose it for this project, it is absolutely perfect except in the style of burst finish. Everything else is the same: alder body, double-bound body, sunburst, mint green pickguard and routed body for a humbucker. I guess Squier knew people might get saucy with it. The pickguard is the only thing you have to rout and that willl be easy, but have a pro do it.
@MrNegativelight NO I checked the radius's out beforehand to find a match, but I'm pretty sure this neck pocket will fit most if not all Fender necks, at least the standard issue ones, meaning MIM and American ones. I'm pretty sure Fender had this in mind when designing this guitar.
Here is my email. Yurei.a@gmail.com I got the diagram from mrmorrison. And I got a 3 way switch from musicpartsguru but I think it's the wrong 3 way switch because it didn't match with the Andy summers diagram.
And you mentioned the exact pots for it. I got a 500k audio taper pot from allparts and I'm wondering if that's ok. I want it to get it exactly the same sound as yours. I like the biteyness of the bridge.
Im stuck again =) where did you get the right 3 way switch and pots? I know you got them from Music parts guru but I need to know the right part number. Thanks man
Tele sounds absolutely fantastic ia5662! I have been thinking about doing a project of my own, but I can't figure out how fender wired the clapton preamp to be an OD and not a midboost. I have been trying to figure it out for over a year now!!! Would you be kind enough to share your secrets on how you wired it? It would be much appreciated!
@arothman2324 hey man since I can't post links on here just head over to TDPRI it's a Telecaster forum and if you look up Mr. Morrison he has a whole thread with a diagram on this straight from Fender. That's where I got mine. I'm listed under PoliceFan7 and you can follow my thread as well there. The Forum is seriously a gold mine of information. Thanks and good luck with yours!
I ordered the Fender Rubber pickup tubings from angela.com because it was mentioned in your TDPRI post. Are these ok as weather strips or did you use a specific Fender part # with the screws. Thank you much for helping out man. I've been thinking about this project for a while it drives me crazy!
@yureia they should be fine, but if you want to be authentic, I'd go with the weather strips that adhesively stick under the bridge pickup. I'm not really sure if it makes a ton of difference, but there's a lot more surface area touching the bottom of the pickup with the strips and it's just more of a brace with the rubber tubing. I want to say you might tell the difference, but I really don't know for sure.
Great guitar man!!! Because of you, Im inspired to make my own custom Andy tele. I wanna know what did you do to mount the bridge pick up on the wood and not let it just float .and what kind of screws did you use. The brass bridge is on its way soon. I cant wait. Thanks man!!
@yureia OK this is something I researched extensively because I was unfamiliar with mounting pickups to the wood. You will need Fender's wood screws I think they start as a solid shaft then turn into the threaded point. Also, you can order Weather Strips straight from Fender that sit snugly beneath the pickup to create float. Some people just use the silicon grommets, but Andy's used the weather strips, so that's what I went with. Got the exact product # when I called Fender. Good luck man!
Sweet tone bro! Great lookong and sounding tele. I was wondering whered you purchase the neck and whether the body needed any adjustments to fit it or if its am exact fit
@McScottson dude it was a PERFECT fit. this thing is made to be customized and the body is already routed for a humbucker in the neck position. it was an absolute steal.
@ia5662 sweet deal! do you think you could tell me whered you purchase the fender nashville maple neck? im looking to replace the neck on mine as its too thin!
