In Iran, the government pays for sexual-reassignment surgery (which is not what many want, but what they get). I will say that most gay men in Iran are not treated fairly.. but it's not the government that gives them such a tough time. It's the general populus. If they would just agree to live and let live, there would not be so many problems for gays.
