This is misleading. I am a finance manager at a dealership, and jerking around the salesman by not disclosing the trafde will usually piss off the manager and salesguy and end up costing you more. Or you'll get walked. Most dealers now are so regulated that if your a fair, so will they be. In reality I see customers nowadays playing more games than any of our slaeguys do by taking advice like this.

Don't worry about cutting the dealing too low because you don't know what the dealer paid for the car. Usually, their cost is far below the INVOICE price. Dealers generally pay about 400-700 under the invoice, Thats called holdback. (depends on the car MSRP) However no dealer wants to lose holdback profit and salespeople don't make profit off this. It is only for the Owners of the dealership.

Many have tried a one price strategy as you suggest. For most dealers it has not worked out because most customers want to negotiate.
A fair negotiation involves disclosure of all pertinent facts so everybody knows where everyone else is coming from.
