  • nice video.. i am currently taking my backhoe operator's course to obtain my Heavy Equipment Operators Certificate. So far we've had all in class sessions but our equiment hands on is next week. I have confidence I can do it, been operating lift trucks for 16 years so hydraulic lever's aren't new to me. I enjoyed your videos and despite what the other tool says, it's informative and relative to anyone who wants to learn about the equipment. i'm willing to bet you'd out perform most on this thing

  • I have a case 580c that i use on the farm. digging stumps, grading driveways, clearing snow etc. Self taught till now but your videos are wonderful, thank you for sharing. do you have a video on grading. I find that the trickest.

    Thanks again.

  • Thanks for making dumbass village a little less dumb sir. :)

  • Ha "how to" If you're already an operator you dont need a how to vid. If you're not an operator this won't teach you anything. So who is this video for! Like I could tell you how to ride a motorcycle. Not to mention this old man aint near as agressive as the newer generation of operators

  • @Fastdirt505 HA, if your already a backhoe operator then why are you watching this? Just to put someone down cause our life sucks? I'm a backhoe operator (meaning i have operated a few on jobs but am not currently employed as a backhoe operator) and i found this very informative. Not really usefull to me as i already know all this but useful to anyone looking to to interested in becoming an operator. So thanks to the "old man" for making dumbass village a little less dumb.

  • @Fastdirt505 As for the agression, ask any worker if he wants an "old man" who knows what he's doing and is safe and accurate or some punk kid who's quick on the sticks and allways messes up and causes everyone else more work.

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 Hey you are a discrace. You have How to videos on your channel of how to do DRUGS! Seriously loser! If you'd lay off that stuff then your last two brain cells could combine your 2 comments and you wouldn't have to waste my time twice. Also this guys channel has "expert" in the title. NOT an expert by any means. Now you should erase your videos of "how to roll joints" smoke another retile boy

  • @Fastdirt505 actually it's not my lack of anything that made me put 2 comments instead of one. If you keep typing you run out of available space so then i was forced by youtube to use a second comment box. Just curious if you could post a better video then this showing how to operate the boom. If not then don't be a keyboard warrior and put other people down who are doings a fine job at explaing the basics of somthing. Maby you should smoke a joint or two, you might not be such an asshole. ops..

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 Look at that, i typed too much again and needed a second box. I looked at your videos also and it looks to me you spend a lot of time on the ground recording other people operating machines, maby you should put your brain cells towards getting off the ground and into those machines you claim to know so much about. I won't reply again,You have a pleasent day

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 Sorry if you got offended but they're all me in the seat

  • Excellent little video on running a Cat backhoe Smooth operator, could probably butter his bread for breakfast with his backhoe's bucket!

Learning to run one is eye-hand coordination, and being aware of safety items. Good training from an experienced operator is vital. Practice in a safe place where there are no obstructions or expensive things to break. Run the engine at a low RPM so that bucket movements aren't so fast. Be safe!

I run a small backhoe and I like it alot!

  • Great and informative video. I appreciate the safety talk at the end. Well done.

  • The operator is good. He should mention to put the bucket down for some extra stability

  • try the 446B caterpillar

  • i have an international 3414 with 6 lolli pops, its a pain to operate

  • good show!!!!!!!!!

  • I use the ford 555A

  • My 2-year-old son wanted to watch a video about how a backhoe works, and he absolutely loved your video. Thanks for sharing!

  • sure is smooth and can follow a grade but a video dosent teach me nothing. i learned by doing not watching

  • When on solid dirt, I set the front end loader bucket down--then lift the front end of the machine off the ground(all the way)...then(at full throttle) set the stabalizers down all the way too!! This set-up sets the whole machine about 3 ft off the ground, which puts you at about 8-9 ft off the ground....it's my way of "getting high!!"

  • 06' 580M Turbo 4x4 4n'1 e-hoe etc.

  • i wonder if thats his first day on a backho?

  • bdgnxgn-..òllpopo900'pòè'

  • I dig around utilities every day. I swear by 4stick foot swing, would never go back to 2 stick.

I agree with wasson6414. Experiance is very important diggin in the street.

  • I fell in love with a case 4stick foot swing. At the training center i go to they have 2..one is very old and the boom leaks..drifts slowly to the floor but it is very beatiful to operate.

  • same here bud. wat kinda machine u operate?

  • it isn't hard to operate a backhoe. i just don't like case. it's to confusing with all the levers. i just like the deere jcb and cat. they are really simple to opperate once you get the jist of what you're doing and that's coming from a 15 year old

  • if it isnt hard to operate a hoe you would be able to operate all of them

  • obviously u have not dug around utilities its to dig a hole in the ground but fast and smooth and not break anything

  • yeah. i guess that is true. I just have had more experience with hoes other than deeres. I guess it is somewhat an opinion and i haven't dug a lot around utilities.

  • if you cant figure out how to step on a pedal to swing or how to run 4 levers, then tell me what are you going to do when you need to run the front end and back end at the same time when you get in tight spots?

  • he can run that fucking thing better than you can and if not i sure fucking can. FUCK YOU

  • Why would you say that?

  • trust me you can get ALOT worse

  • heii my dad has been working in this ive operated one of this is hard and confusing but after a while u get use to it

  • The newer CATs have the nice Excavator style controls. The machines are a lot nicer now.

  • i drive a jcb 4cx occasionally at work and the controls are not like that, the controls on this cat are just the same as on a digger.

  • good teaching but lets see you dig that easy with the ground frozen and not slop

  • GREAT TEACHING

  • he missed one point though. You need to operate at full speed because you dont want to stall the engine out.

  • no... not always.

  • wrong

  • if you want to work on something soft, and want to be very acuriate, yes! i have been using these for 30 years, i think i would know. i own my own excvavting business!

  • wrong....You obviously don't know jack about these dumberdude........

  • well i have a jcb... and for those kind, i read the manual, never said that. AND NO ONE SAYS.... jack.... k mr. finelinefinishes. i have been doing this for 30 years. how old are you 5?6?

  • Terrible teaching

  • That CAT is in much nicer shape than the crap-pile Terex 760B I had to use.

  • I do patchwork on streets alleyways and sidewalks. I run a case 580m turbo tractor and it definately pull it's weight. Only bad thing with it is that it's a little bit jumpy for somebody that's tryin to learn how to run one.... definately takes experience to be precise

  • i work for a drainage tiling company and am the head backhoe operator. my machine of choice is a john deere 310 SG. i've been working there for about a year ad the backhoe is one of my favorite pieces of equipment to operate.

  • my dad has two of these

but they are fords new hollands 555e

    there awsome

    and i drove them

    and im only 15!!

  • I use them everyday and i'm only 13

  • Good to know. ;) I have been doing a bit of research on tractors. I'm looking into Branson. Not many people have even heard of them, but they have been around for a while.

  • I notice some operators will put the loader bucket down far enough so that all 4 wheels are off the ground. Why do they do that instead of leaving the wheels down and the loader bucket flat?

  • I think its a matter of personal preferance and/or the type of work being done. I have a 1970 Case 580B backhoe that we do for work around our farm and when I use the backbucket I normally dont do anything but use the stabalizer claws to slightly lift the back wheels up, and just set the front bucket on the ground. I would think that using the front bucket to raise the front up might keep it more stabalized and reduce vibration and rocking....

  • That makes sense, ty. ;)

  • it makes the machine more level so we arn't leaning back in our seat.

  • Ahh, another good point. ;)

  • yes, because some of us (Very much me since I am young) want our backs in 20 years. :p And want to be able to see the ground and not feel like were on a roller coaster. :P Although it does feel like one big video game with joysticks and such. :P

  • Well my friend, I'm 46, have 4 acres of some real "boney" land. I want a nice lawn, but ca't dig 5" w/o hitting a boulder....lol I thank you for your input and wish you well. In the mean time, there's always a D-9....lol

  • Ill take the D-9 anyway. :P

    I am 14 Y/O and operate a Cat 320C digging trenches. :)

  • At times I've put the bucket down farther to lift the front end to let you see more by lifting you up higher. Like reaching over a wall and such.

  • if im just trenching i barely put the weight of the tractor on the outriggers and bucket this keeps the machine as wide as possible for stability and putting the loader bucket down plants the outriggers in making the machine sort of "parked" so to speak and if im spoiling into trucks or over a fence i usually lift the machine up as high as possible for visibility and its easier to reach the top of the truck

  • another thing that i like to do is set the front bucket down just far enough to take the pressure off the front tires but not lift them up off the ground, and the same with the back so then you have 7 points of contact while your digging and it makes digging more safe for everyone

  • funny
