With the utmost resepct to women(I'm happy to say that several of my best and closest friends are women!) there are very few these days who can rock as good as those in the '80's! Sadly(and this is jmo) many(notice I didn't say ALL!), female singers these days seem so artificial! Musically, I don't think there wil be another decade like the '80's!!
Far from taking anything away from Christina Amplett(she was a wicked rock chic, and singer in her own right as a person), it was great Mark Mc Entree was given his chance to shine on this! I remember them performing just before Christmas a few years ago, when I went with my brother and a few of his mates, and did they rock or what!! This song went off live, I remember!!
@AoimeDubs The eighties was a pretty cool era for music, but there were a lot of one hit wonders that produced one classic song and then we never heard from them again. You have very good taste in music if you like the Divinyls.
What could have been a piss-take pop song is elevated to a breathtaking band and vocal workout. It's like riding a runaway train!
If you like this LP, check out The Swimming Pool Q's Blue Tomorrow LP (86). Another radio-ready, fantastically talented band left by the roadside. Like the Divinyls, they mixed the twin poles of sexuality seamlessly, and featured one of the best dual guitar teams since Wishbone Ash.
"Big Fat Tractor" is a good place to start from here.
A REAL rock chick! Not like these try hard, wanker wannabees these days with their tattoos and piercings. They think they can substitute talent with posturing but they lack HEART! (and good songs).
May All, Grant Their Very Best Wishes of Peace, Love, Comfort, Respect n any Support possible to the wonderful Talent n Gift that is Chrissy Amphlett n same ofcourse to Her Family n Friends at this very difficult time in Her Personal journey, In Our Prayers Always..Much Peace, Love n Light with utmost Respect XxX
Best start to a pop song,Chrissie always aroused strange feelings in me.I think it was the school uniform.Sexy girl, but at the back of my mind there was always the image of Angus Young in a schoolgirl's uniform.Errgh!!
Mate this is AWESOME, for ages I've had this song in my head but never rememered its name, now I'll have it forever. 80's Aussie rock can't be beaten ! Cheers
havent heard this one in yonks.. saw them at narara along side the angels.. brilliant band and chrissie is just awesome.. go the school uniform..!! whooooo..!!
Saw Divinyls at Festival Hall in the 80's - Jeez this looks like it could've been taped there - saw Chrissie on Spicks and Specks tonite - What an icon!!!
i know this may come across as a narrow-minded statement, but the only gutsy 80's rock music that I can listen to is Aussie stuff like Divinyls, Oils, Chisel, Birdman, Angels, etc. I've checked out what happened in other places around this time and still I can only come back to this stuff. I guess you gotta be Aussie to fully get it.
@HollyMcTucker I've always felt the same and thought it was just me! I was a massive Angels fan in the 80's and saw them all over town. They were crazy, sweat soaked gigs. Have you checked out The Sunnyboys? They were my other faves at the time. Not as hard and theatrical as the Angels, but were brilliant and just as popular live. Lead singer/songwriter Jeremy Oxley was something else. I have a few live clips of them in my channel to check out.
@65Incognito I know who the Sunnyboys are... I'm nearly 30 and have been listening to oz rock all my life (being a Melbournite). I don't mind the UK arty-rock bands like Teardrops Explodes, the Cure, the Cult, etc... however, I think the Aussie stuff was true to its value and audience and the songs were GOOD. NZOZ has, of course, opened my eyes are little wider as to the development and the perhaps 'downfall' of Australian music in recent history. nzoz1967 to nzoz1990s is a good lesson.
@HollyMcTucker Wasn't aware you listened to nzoz's extensive library. The live 80's pub/club scene, was a genuine smorgasboard for aussie punters. Any night, take your pick from The Angels,Oil,Chisel, Sunnyboys,Crawl, Rose Tattoo, Choirboys,The Church, Radiators, Divinyls. ..... I still love some OS bands like Simple Minds, " Waterfront Live 89. " Brilliant. That song blows the roof off the dump. I'm also a huge fan of The Motels and singer Martha Davis. Where is that time machine?
@taipan185 Got that right, divinyls, radiators, the church, screaming tribesmen, celibate rifles, spy v spy, hellmenn, mass appeal, hard ons, toys went beserk, etc, etc, etc. I know I was always spoilt for choice every week at one stage..........all of them good live!
Bring on some of those PROPER AUSSIE MADE concerts with great 80's bands.. Talk about a sellout in minutes... 1 in each state, not 2 bands in each state.. That might even get Blox out of retirement!!!
@ruderkonge1976 Bjarne Ohlin. He wrote the song too. it is one of my fave Divinyls songs. Who knows what they may have done if he'd stayed and contributed more.
yeah its interesting isnt it? 'I touch myself' is not really chok full of the riffs and ideas of earlier songs, and yet it IS their biggest hit. haha..says a lot about people. some of the biggest hits ever are the most crass.
Australia is full of talent, why be so negative. There's Empire of the sun, Little Birdy, AC/DC could've died with Bon Scott but they're still a BRILLIANT Band till now. My children are now appreciating them, go Australian muso's. And no young person has ruined anything! Its the young that keeps new things comin.
Hmm. Good question. Some of the greatest bands were from Australia in the 80's: INXS; Midnight Oil; Divinyls. Can't forget AC/DC either. Lately there hasn't been much from Australia, or anywhere else for that matter. (Couple of exceptions, namely Muse & Arcade Fire.) Oh well, Nick Cave is still going strong.
You nasty, little girl. you are a prime example of what I meant. All the more reason to encourage the mick taylors and Ivan Milats of the world to cut you all up.
Yeah this rocks...I saw them at the Dee Why hotel in 86.We were packed in like sardines and there was so much smoke in the air you could hardly breathe...Great gig though...
That kills me because ive been a fan of thers for SO many years and they have had so many great songs and albums and the fact that anyone only knows or cares about "i Touch Myself" and think they are a one hit wonder pisses me of. there so much more.
I know i hate that because they are such a good band with seriously amazing songs and when ever i tell people there one of my favorite bands people are just like "oh isnt that the chich that touches herself".
Great song, and very underrated by a lot of the industry. the only thing that gets me is the track compilation of the CD's available these days. Some absolute stunners and some that get me guessing!
Their best song by the length of the street. I feel sorry for the Americans who only know them for "I Touch Myself". They were a real band during this time as well.

Brilliant.
Love the Divinyls and always will. Saw them live three times in Perth back in the 80's but the best show was at the Generator Hotel in Morley.
I was at the front of the stage for the whole show looking up at Chrissie in adoration, when I wasn’t going crazy of course.
Very nice memories.

@maccastacka Ooh, lucky. I'm thirteen, love the Divinyls, so I'm very trapped in the eighties, those I was born in late nineties.
How I wish I was born twenty odd years ago so I could be around for such a fantastic era.
