@hitthatperfectbeat It's worth noting that "Scotland the Brave" has no official lyrics. This is the traditional set, but it's still not official. Canada has the same problem; "O Canada" still hasn't been officially recognized as our national anthem. Ouebec won't vote yes on it, calling it "too Anglophone," even though it was first written in Quebec - and in French!
@loxer101 its a different version but Scotland has no official national anthem. they use this one and flower of Scotland when they would use their national anthem
You pratt! Scots as we know them today, came from Northern Ireland, and, yes, Southern Ireland, as there was not a division 'back in the day". They gradually pushed the Celt's out, and voila, Scotland , here we are. You need to read a little bit more history before sounding off.::)
@jay19xxx You are probably some stupid english king who's ancestors wether they be kings or pesants stood by and watched while scots were tortured and killed. fighting for something called freedom. i should know a little about that because you blokes couldent let the brave scots who risked everything for that freedom. teach you a lesson NO!!! YOU DISRESPECT THEM EVEN MORE BY TRYING TO RULE AMERICA (NOT IN THE SAME SENSE) BUT THEY BOTH ENDED IN WAR!!!!! THAT MAKES ME SICK!!!!
On the plus side the lyrics are more or less one what I had on my cassett. Wikipedia states the lyrics were composed by Mr. Handley in the 1950's. My reservtion is the song is sung too slowly. The version on my cassett is much more lively.
BTW have any of you seen the move The Devils Brigade, starring William Holden? The tune Scotland the Brave is played in that movie. It appears to be the theme.
I've tracked down the other version of the lyrics. It's the lyrics for Scotland Forever and then it puts Scotland the Brave in brackets. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is. Are they the same and if so where do the second set of lyrics come from.
That aside, I love this video. My eternal thanks for uploading it.
Are these real lyrics because if they're not then they're better than the real lyrics. I'm not Scottish but if I was I would be proud to be Scottish with and athem like this one.
@KeredDrahcir I think these are the real lyrics. They lyrics are similar to what I had on my cassette. The tune is about 100 years old, while the lyrics are about 50 to 60 years old. I think you may want to check wikipedia for the history of the song.
Good job, beautiful voice. I used to listen to your video all the time at my old computer job but I didn't have an account until recently so i could leave a post.

i like scotland-the more i hear of it the more i want to visit it and to meet its people. The only problem is i would have to travel over england....
greetings from germany
oh, by the way, i have nothing against england but your rivalry is a little bit strange from our view; you´re living on the same island,so let´s be EUROPE together
The brave is in it so much because we fight anyone who tries too invade no matter how strong or how large they may be
Romans held at a wall and keeping them there and if you know your history romans took over the whole of europe exept scotland because they could'nt believe how strong we were for so few numbers. SCOTLAND!
The tune has been around for around 100 years but the words were written in the early 50s for a singer (funnily enough :))!! This isn't the best version though and sounds better sung by a man IMO and I'm a woman!!!
(1) Hark! When the night is falling Hark! Hear the pipes are calling, Loudly and proudly calling, down through the glen. There where the hills are sleeping, Now feel the blood a-leaping, High as the spirits of the old Highland men. Chorus Towering in gallant fame, Scotland my mountain hame, High may your proud standards gloriously wave, Land of my high endeavour, Land of the shining river, Land of my heart for ever, Scotland the brave.
I am very proud every time I listen to this song.I also think highly of anyone who sings out for the whole world to hear.SCOTLAND LOVES THOSE WHO ARE PROUD OF HER ANYONE who says different is a WANKER, and not PROUD of OUR PEOPLE. I thought it was just lovely.Thank you for your courage to sing to us. DJ MACKENZIE. HIGHLANDER.I AM SCOTLAND FOREVER!
am proud tae be scottish but then again a dont see wit people think the big deal is bein scottish a just wish we could get on wae the english and they could get on wae us lol.
You`re right. I`ve just got back home from a weekend in Inverness - the train from King`s Cross to Inverness was 1 half hours late because of a fatality in the Peterborough area on Friday. The train was full of Scots and English - and the camaraderie that developed amongst people who had spent up to 9 and a half hours on that train was amazing. So why all the hatred and emnity?
Well done!! Please keep my homeland safe and free of the English until I can return. All we need to do is have a revolution, expel the English, put up a giant wall and only let non-English in...bliss.
Indeed. Those that are Scottish and those that wish to be. I'm just a Yank stuck in my godforsaken country, longing to go back to where my ancestors came from, so what do I know?
maybe we need to retake our "godforsaken" country. I am Scot/Irish/German and love my country as well as my ancestor's. By the way, I am not a yank, I am a Texan. Much more important.
I agree, we should retake our country. Yes, being a Texan IS more important, I lived in Lubbock for a couple years and I understand what you are saying, although Lubbock isn't exactly God's country, it is Texas and they made me understand that.
Not sure what you know, but you might want to check airfares. Some pretty good transatlantic deals, I understand. Not sure if the people over there will let you stay, but no one over here is stopping you from leaving.
Yawn. The love it or leave it act is tired. Also, living here, I can say what I want, good or bad. I just happened to live in Europe for four years and I truly appreciate quality of life over standard of living. Maybe if you checked that out you might not be so quick to be so insulting. By the way, the only reason I would not be able to stay is because I'm American, we're not too popular anywhere, thanks to Cheney and Bush.
I didn't say "love it or leave it". I just said that no one is stopping you if that's what you want. All countries, however, have restrictions on who can stay and for how long. I'm trying to help get a Brit a visa to stay here and it's not easy. And anti-Americanism didn't start in 2002. It got worse under Bush and has relaxed some since, but it's nothing new and country's immigration restrictions aren't governed by the ebb and flow of American politics.
Oh, and while I never spent four years outside this country, I did spend a total of six months over two visits in Hamburg and liked it very much, thank you. Extended stays abroad aren't in the cards now, but I do hope to get to Tuva one day. I throat sing and tuned this video in because I've been teaching myself to throat sing "Scotland the Brave".
Re toonmag50's comment. The generationalisation doesn't seem to fit the facts. The Scots who settled in Australia and NZ were mainly Lowlanders, typically younger sons of small farmers. My Highland ancestors were Protestants.

My opinion....I think the (posted) third verse is a little outdated. That said,
the lyrics are inspiring. I have heard several versions of the tune (bagpipes, piano, etc.). The tune is fine!
Best of luck choosing a national anthem.
I hope that whichever one is chosen that it's a tune that most can sing!

Yeah, very true, If this was representative of much in Scotland..... I'd claim to be English.
Actuallly no, I'd just live with the shame of this being my heritage

Where are the pipes? This is painful and I'm Welsh. This is like some Englishman stole them. Give the Scots back their pride. Sctland forever. Cymru ar barth

Although I live in Brazil, my heart is always in Scotland my mother and grandparents land. It´s really beautiful!!!!

I'd say the bagpipes does it more justice. A national anthem doesn't necessary need to have lyrics.
