There are only a few instrumentals that will outlive the performers who made them famous ....Love's Theme, Theme From A Summer Place, Because They're Young, Stranger On The Shore, Canadian Sunset, Il Etait Une Fois Dans l'Ouest, Wonderland by Night, Theme From Moulin Rouge, Theme In Search Of A Movie and ..........LOVE IS BLUE
I was 7 years old in 1968 and remember how much I loved this song. I was so happy to find it on YouTube. It is a wonderful song, yet sad. I, too, could listen to it 100 times a day.
And to think that 40 years ago I really an 8 track tape for my 63 Chev Impala and the guys would give me crap all night. Oh Well, here I am retired and still listening to the greatest in the world. God Bless all of You!
@rolbri Such music we had back then. I still love those oldies and also remember my own 8-track in the car (a '69 Olds Cutlass) as well as my portable 8 track (that I still have! Take care and keep on listenin' to those great sounds!
Just is simplicity I was 7 or 8 when I listened to the radio and after I ahd a version of Nini Rosso and Michele Lacerenza Morricone's first trumpet. Now thanks to you tube you can add a new life to Love is blue. Fantastic!
a vert beautiful song by a very gifted man rest in peace you brought so much beauty and joy to this world with your music. And also class talnet elgance
Happy, happy memories; happy times! For some reason it reminds me of being in the kitchen with my mom (prob because I was in the kitchen...with my mom) And now that 14 year old is still inside me, knock-knocking on my brainand heart asking to come out! So sorry angel, for the loss of your Glen. Know that he is with you each and every moment of the day - energy never dies, and the energy of love is the most potent. Turn sadness into good energy...Glen wants that, I'm sure of it!
@faklempt1 What a beautiful comment about my sweet Glen. I do feel him always close by. He is my very special guardian angel and in death, as in life, his love and protection surround me always. I chronicled this love of ours in two of the books I have written so that others may learn of the joy of those innocent and beautiful days we shared. Bless you for your kindness and understanding....take care.
This song was the theme of my senior prom back in June of 1969 when I danced in the loving arms of my boyfriend Glen. Little did I know all those years ago that the song would echo the loss of my beloved who passed away in 1990 at age 38. RIP my special angel...my world is indeed "blue without you."
Great song. It hit the radio in January 1968 (along with "Classical Gas") and turtlenecks were just starting to be worn with blazers, sport jacket and suits, as in this video. Thanks for bringing it back!
Hola a todos, en mi opinión, considero a esta canción como una de la mas grandes y maravillosas de nuestro siglo. Los invito a disfrutarla y a preservarlo por siempre.
Listening today, the first iconic notes propel me back to the 4th grade playing the auto-harp. Even as an innocent child, the yearning violins overwhelmed my heart, anticipating a later sadness in my life, when love became blue. Such a beautiful piece. God bless you, Paul, for the joy you inspired. May you rest in peace.
In 1968, this was the first pop song I ever learned on the piano! I was classically trained on piano, from 6 to 16 years old. I memorized "Love is Blue" and began my pop, jazz, progressive and fusion musical interest!
i always imagine doing a very nice waltz around the ballroom dance floor when i hear this song. So beautiful and one of my very favorite songs since I was a little boy! :-)
I don't know if it's supposed to be a sad song, but I always feel happy when I hear it. I imagine sunshine and running around in playful bliss as a 4 year old. This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, it was more than 40 years ago and I never forgot it. Sometimes I sing it for no reason out of the blue. What else could I expect from Paul Mauriat?
@dannidog Actually, this was the first time I heard this song. It was more than 10 years ago. I was looking for the title of the song ever since. A few days ago I realized that with youtube and google it should be easy.
@dannidog Yes Lucy Butler, watched it this evening - loved it. Funny how they could use a song like this and make it creepy (not to talk about friggin annoying...lol!)
master piece how does one put something like this together pure genius makes you feel like flying in pure happiness is this suppose to be a sad tune as in love is blue doesnt matter its a beautiful symphony just like my beautiful maurie.
I remember crawling under live machine gun fire at night during basic training in '68 with tracers cracking 3' above my head humming this to myself. It was glorious! I didn't think anyone else heard me, but a couple of my buddies did and gave me my nickname, Crazy Bob. Funny how memories like that stick when they're associated with music. I thought this was a beautiful instrumental.
Am I the only one who thinks Paul looks like a Priest with the type of shirt collar he is wearing??? LOL WE MISS YOU PAUL!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MUSIC, ESPECIALLY "LOVE IS BLUE"!!!
This is one of the most amazing songs of all time!!!!! André Popp & Pierre Cour may have written it, (L'amour est bleu) but Paul Mauriat perfected it!!!!!!

Interesting to me that fashion, in the 60's, had a pared down look to it: clothing, furniture, homes, all very sleek and modern looking. But music - even pop music - became lush, with full orchestras and harpsichords no less! The 60's were a time of invention and creation. I'm grateful to have lived during them.
i still got the original record my mother gave me in 1970 and i was only 8 years old i still play it today and it brings my childhood memories like it was only yesterday
@MrJrrufino ainda nao tinha nascido...ouço um estilo de musica absolutely different(metal) mas no entanto ouço esta musica centenas de vezes..mainly cause I think of it as a serial killer music!!
- thnx - Very comfortable trance, that makes us wanna dance. Me, oh my. I think this gets me high. * * * * * I will drink one for you while I'm listening to " Love Is Blue " . [sweet]
I can still remember hearing this song on the radio back in the late 60's, I was 5 years old. My mom had the album this song was on and her and I use to sing along with it in the car when it came on the radio. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Every time I hear it, it brings back warm memories of my childhood.
@officialuneven I hear ya. I was 7 when this song came out and even at that young age the melody captured my imagination. The different instruments and the sounds that they made in each verse really stuck with me. Reminds me so much of 1968 which as a kid for me was a great year since i was living my childhood even though in reality it was a awful year here in the US.
@officialuneven -- Funny, in the 60s, when my daughter was about 5, we'd do the same thing when it came on the radio. I also had the album and played it frequently...because it brought back so man warm memories.
I know I'm not the only metalhead listening from music from the 60's,this one is absolutely beautifull, almost perfect..perfect perfect only"My Dying Bride" ;)
@blackcatcooker Im a total metalhead and I love this song cus it brings back memories when I used to hear it on the radio when I was a kid. I love anything with a harpsichord!
@funkychick60 I'm 29,and I heard this music for the very first time 2 days ago on a Millennium episode,I just had to find out wich and who's music it was:)

With all do respect...the U.S. was very messed up in 1968! King killed, RFK killed, Vietnam escalating, Nixon elected....Riots in every major city..........!!!!
A wonderful melody of the great musician Paul Mauriat and his orchestra, lovely memories come up to my mind from my childhood years, this song has something special that makes the feelings to wake up. My father used to listen this song in a radio called Stereo Lima 100 in Lima- peru in the 60's.
@SATRUDER2009 I agree,I too listened to this in the 60's but in CA. Funny, that you mentioned Peru.21 yrs. ago I was in Peru adopting a baby girl! She is a beauty and a sweet girl!
what a great song to have been #1 - imagine on the charts with hendrix - beatles - the stones......quite a time for music - glad i experienced it:=):=)
Pure magic- thank you for posting this! I loved this ballad growing up in the late 60's & early '70's. They just don't make music like this anymore. I love hearing this live and in a slightly slower tempo than the recorded version. Paul Mauriat was a genius composer- he made the electric harpsichord "hip"!

A wonderful melody of the great musician Paul Mauriat and his orchestra, lovely memories come up to my mind from my childhood years, this song has something special that makes the feelings to wake up. My father used to listen this song in a radio called Stereo Lima 100 in Lima- peru in the 60's.
