It was in 1969. I was on the atlantic sea on a ship bound for United States. One of the guys have this great song with himon a LP. We played it all the time during the journey and today it is the the song I have in my ears when I think back. It is actually 43 years ago but the song last all the way - amazing
Magnificent...As it was live in 1969 at a California Concert Hall...It's still a thrill to hear and see MR. Brooker and the power of this Classic song and his distinct Vocals !! Beautiful !!.
procol harum and moody blues will perform in south africa next May, 30th; Johannesburg and Cape Town. both bands 45 years of beauty and brilliance. amazing gary brooker. what a voice!
no, they just don t do it like this anymore. viva youtube, is the least i can say. what an era!
waoooooooooohhh......just great....many years has passed since i used to hearded it...and still the same.....procol harum fantastic.....regards from Mexicali , Mexico border to EUA
This song came out 7 years before I was born yet I believe it is one the most beautiful songs ever written and this rendition is just nothing short of amazing. I am usually not a big fan of symphonies in songs that aren't already a symphonic song however for this piece, it just adds so much more depth to an already deep, beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it.
I get joy seeing that so many other people get the same intense type of listening pleasure to this.I found this song to be one of the most moving pieces that I have ever heard.
I believe that this is God himself singing this...Pure perfection Gary Brooker you are a Legend in every sense of the word..Thank you so much for this masterpiece...
I can not believe after all this time, how Gary Brooker sings this with even more conviction, heart and soul than when it was first written..........just sar in awe with a few tears in my eyes!!..........beautiful, just beautiful..!!!
@NenadRake I get them too don't quite understand why, but the song moves me in a spiritual way and I don't understand that either. I listen to lots of music but it is so rare that i get this feeling from a song.
I cant tell what this is because it is too big to explain - maybe this is one of the most importent moments in our life when we are listening to something bigger than life it self. Hard to understand how any can make a song like this and at the same time be human ? This is the song I expect from the creatures from another planet when they meet us for the very first time. Thank you !
You just don't hear music like this anymore unless you go back in time. This is the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. His voice still has that beautiful clarity. Age only made it better.
it is a blessing to prove that a classical piece it is still so actual and peaceful, I love it. And of course the adaptation of it to a beautiful contemporary song. Awesome!!!
I absolutely love this song, and the setting for this performance is stunning. Brooker & Reid raised the bar when writing the No.1 lyrics, breaking the must have repeatition and must mention the word love at least twenty times rule, what masters of their art, superb. I have seen this video so many times and I am still absorbed by Gary's voice, the keyboards and the strings. Like all classics, this song has proven itself to be timeless. Well done chaps. Respect.
I heard this song on House MD series, and this is definitely a great song! Just perfect, just beautiful way more than most of the song composed this day.
I was scared to hear Procol Harum play this after so many decades but it blew me away. It reinforces my belief that musicians from the 60's were quantum levels better than the style over substance musicians that get all the attention today.
Awesome...so many of the great artist of this era sadly don't sound close to their younger selves, but this performance is off the charts in my opinion!! I have always loved this song and this has only renewed my enjoyment listening to them sing! <3
The original recording achieved 6 Weeks at number one on the charts from 8 June 1967, having only been released less than a month earlier on 12 May 1967 - and being their debut album ... it speaks volumes ....
I was so crushed by seeing this the first time, I played it like 50 times in a row. The song was so good out of the studio, and this arrangement is spectacular. Gary Brooker sounds revitalized on this incredible performance.
I have have heard this song many times and liked it, but this performance in particular was quite moving. I am not quite sure of the meaning but it is a very contemplative song. When you hear it it brings you back to places forgotten, both good and sad. Very moving moving rentition!
I agree with most of the comments on this posting. If you want to see the greats, they are mostly on youtues,.....thank God for the folks that post them. You can spend your day watching the great ons.

I am reminded, too, of Jimi Hendrix's 1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be. I always liked this tune ever since it first came out inn 1967. I am impressed with the singer. He did not lose his vigor with age, but actually his musicianship has improved! Amazing!!
that's an excellent questions, billsurf101.. I do appreciate how lucky I was to hear so much great stuff in the 60s, and (mostly) 70s, just as it was being created and performed.. ; /
i doubt any musician today can write a symphony and add lyrics and make a classic. nights in white satin, all you need is love, whiter shade of pale, etc. we need to bring music back
my dad was listening to this the other day, and all i can say is amazing, why cant we have musicians like this nowdays instead of justin beiber or lady gaga?
@billsurf101 The wonderful thing about music is that it is forever. Yesterday's songs, tomorrow's tunes, today's melodies. We are blessed to live during a time where all music of the past is ours to celebrate. There's always good music. We just have to be willing to find it.
@billsurf101 Because the bean counters have taken over the music industry. They create performers like Justin Bieber that do not write their own music and target them towards specific audiences. It's all about the dollars. I've never seen such a lack of talent in the music industry as we have today. It's pretty sad!
@billsurf101 we do have musicians like this nowadays, your just making no attempt to find these musicians, and your shutting your mind off to the possibilities of their existance. If you are so concerned why don't you make your own music.
@billsurf101 : We got them (at least in Denmark) but they're lacking the appreciation from the public in general. My guess is that we haven't got time for other things than easy-listening...
