Can you still change the gear with your foot or is there too much resistance in the piston?

yeah the foot shifter still moves freely as the piston works on electro magnetic priciples.

Oh great, thanks. for some reason i thought it was pneumatic. I have parcial paralysis in my left leg and am looking to go back to biking. I can change down gear but not up and relish the thought of being able to do quick down changes etc. Just need to find a way not to fall off it when coming to a stop now!!

Upshifts are much quicker especialy when done without the clutch so you'd probably not use your foot to shift at all.

As for falling off I have no left leg at all. I hold the bike up with my right foot while the front brake stops it moving.

There's a guy in my town (Perth, Western Australia) who has a fully developed bike for disabled folks. It was a University of WA initiative and the guy's name is Darren Lomman. From memory the bike's called a "dreamfit".

I'd love to see Wayne Rainey leaning into fast turns again!
