You know, I know it's not a good point of view to have, but plenty of women do coke while pregnant and the baby turns out fine (fine meaning alive, but with birth defects). It could be that it was because she was young, but honestly? LIFE SENTENCE? That's a bit much, State of Mississippi.

I think she should only be charged for murdering her child if she was offered treatment and to get help. Addiction isn't something you can just drop, sometimes even being pregnant isn't enough motivation. If she had been offered help while she was pregnant and refused only then should she be guilty.

The girl is 15 years old.. she should definitely not be held accountable for the "intentional" murder of her child. A history of drug-related problems does not mean the child died because she took drugs. The question that is burning in my mind is how did Mississippi overlook the fact that she was 15 and pregnant and jump straight into the cocaine allegation?? Isn't Mississippi really big on things like underage sex?

QOTD: I agree with abortion. I don't agree with tri mester abortion. In my opinion, this woman risked her child with her drug abuse. Its common sense something bad could've happened. So though it wasn't her intentions to kill the child, she DID kill it. I agree she should be charged with murder. Women even quit smoking when they find out its pregnant, you'd think she'd figure out drugs are worse...

shes 15.. i think her having to re-live her life in prison for a few stupid 'accidental' mistakes is FAR too harsh. The fact that it was accidental makes it manslauter rather than murder anyway. sure, she should be punished for a few years, make her realize the extent of the stupid things she has done, it might make her re-value her life and make changes.

Um, important detail for those who didn't catch it: Whether or not you believe in abortion, any sensible lawyer could tell you that the fact that the killing was unintentional makes it manslaughter.
Also, I'm a Muslim, and our religion states that abortions MUST take place before the fourth month of pregnancy, so this woman did indeed kill a baby. :(

personally, for me to categorize something as murder, the person has to have intentionally, and in a proper state of mind, kill another person. i do classify abortion as murder. however, i do not know this whole story, but it the girl was just stupid and was unaware of the damage of cocaine on her baby, then she's just ignorant and i don't think it's murder. if she intentionally took cocaine in order to kill the baby, i think it's murder... i'm not a judge or a jury so that doesn't really matter
