  • Please connect to the monitor.

  • This happened with my ZE4900 except it's the right half of the screen. Needless to say... It sucks

  • Its a HP bro. Rubbish. Complete rubbish. My screen is shit. It has wonderful pixel rain. Replacing a screen is not worth it, costs more than the computer. MehHeh. Get LED lasts 10x longer.

  • The VGA card one my ZD8000 had a dead GPU as well the machine is a total nightmare, I battled to get my ZD7000 replaced by HP and they gave me the 8000 which has now also failed. The problem is the heat generation from the desktop CPU and the poor heatsink design on the GPU so teh machine just generated far to much heat and eventually cooks itself. Because of this I will never buy another HP machine again and would urge others to avoid them.

  • My dv6000 does exactly the same, so I hooked it up my 50" LCD and now it is my HTPC.

  • so theres no way to fix it? i dont have money to replace or pay money to fix it???

  • I had the same problem about 5 years ago. The screen was shot. Luckily it was still under warranty and they replaced it.

  • same problem :(

  • THiS MADE ME LOL

  • Lmao xD all Hp laptops are good the first few weeks until a problem happens. I've have seen like 4-5 diffrent HP problems..... HP SUCKS!

  • same problem!!! got hp d9000

  • $1600 for a p4?

  • this is my problem but with an acer aspire one

  • Had this problem. I fixed it by opening the monitor and removing all the tape which was making pressure on the monitor's ribbon.

  • Of course they "don't recognize" there is a problem. I have an HP pavilion notebook with a dead monitor and they told me the same thing. Sucks cuz I paid a lot and those hp jerks told me it would be 400 to fix. I can use mine beautifully with an external monitor, but what's the point? If I wanted another desktop, I would have built one.

  • same thing with mine execpt its the bottom half of the screen. Ive had my laptop since 2006 its a damn shame.

  • most likely the gpu coolers are going bad on it cause a friend of mine had his coolers go and he almost burned up the laptop witch is now dead as a rock.

  • u could just buy another laptop with da 600 dollars.i currently have a samsung r540

  • $600 to repair?! I had the same problem, bought a new screen for $100 with shipping, and installed it myself. Way to go hp.

  • holy shit vidioes of hp laptop's breaking makes me wonder if my hp laptop will be 1 of those computer next i hope not GAH DONT DIE ON ME HP >:(

  • looks like dead pixels

  • just got mine repaired for 50bucks. Now the laptop works perfectly :D

If you guys want help contact me. I got an NEW screen for mine and new inverter and installed it for 50bucks. And its not THAT easy. There is allot to think about.

  • @37474748 where are you located...i need mine fixed...let me know...

  • @littled2ddrc the grate sweden :)

  • I had the same problem, to fix it you need to open you computer and change the RAM.why have to change RAM?: everything you downloaded or installed effect the RAM. program or whatever you downloaded might be strong for your computer. another reason if you had opened your computer, you could open it again and check if it the screen wire connected to the computer. Thanks

  • Here i come with a solution.

problem why did this happened: you might have downloaded something which your computer cannot handle, the program that you downloaded might be too strong for your computer, or you might have tried to install something and forgot to change the setting according tothe program you were trying to install.it has nothing to do with the cable that connects from the computer to the screen. you can see that screen still functioning.

  • The ribbon cable must melt or something!

  • I don't know if I am the first one to point this out... but why not just use a external monitor

  • haha i have an hp pavilion from 2001 and its a beast man fuck your problems i dont have one

  • Was it under warranty? If it was then they need to fix it. If it wasnt what do you expect them to do about it?

  • i got a question i have a hp zd 8000 and i need to replace my hd.. i bought a wrong one and i dont know which one i need, also a cable to connect the laptop hd to my desktop.. please respond asap.

the hard drive require pins.. hope that helps

  • I Loved Hp but just the notion of them not caring about consumer needs in this customer orientated market is just more than preposterous-- It's not caring about the consumer satisfaction goals and initiatives

  • Hp, mainly the pavilion series has a lot of problems pertaining to screens. My two Laptops (Hp-compaq, dv5 1000 ) both have the same problem. In about a year the screen blanked out. There is an intense design flaw in the Pavilion series as to screen and heating problem. I personally know two other people who own HP and have the same problem. I am not a laymen computer user. I conclude not to buy any HP products to preclude any future monetary damages.

  • Hook up an external monitor, if that works ok then it is not your adapter. you should replace your screen which should not cost more than $250. If external monitor does not work then replace the adapter which should cost about $100.

  • hey just fixed my brothers. If you hook it up to your TV and its doing the same thing then it's a video card. If not it could be the connection. The connection particularly with the tape in the back of the HP and it can become a little lose. I went in there pushed it in and it worked. I think the horizontal and vertical shit is BS. If the video card was shoot then no picture.

  • hp suck my mom's computer's screen is starting to have virtical lines

but me,NO I HAVE A MSI AND I DONT HAVE ONE PROBLEM

  • get a sony vaio or gateway

  • connector of the screen is loose from the motherboard

  • I do have the same problem my friend!... bought a new LCD screen, exactly the same as my old one (used).. and 3 weeks later, it started to flicker and everything again... looks like the motherboard is fucking up with the LCD screens! Now I'm planing to migrate my "life" to Mac.

  • You are ABSOLUTELY right about this kind of laptops. Graphic chips in some models /especially NVIDIA/ dissipate a lot of heat, and some manufacturers deliberately put small heatsinks and fans for design and power consumption purposes. This way they know that the laptops ain't gonna last long and try to sell you a new one. You can try to take out the motherboard and reflow the graphic chip via hairdryer, hot air gun, quartz lamp etc. - a lot in youtube and put a copper shim for better cooling.

  • $600 bucks F that HP is gay

  • Just buy another normal average brand graphics card like Plug and Play for SiS mirage Graphic. I brought that for a very low value and have use it for 3.5 years already and it still gave me no problems

  • The same thing here and it overheats tries to take of with its 3 fans.

  • same problem but I've connected my notebook to an external LCD monitor and it starts to have lines again h.p. must have an act on this shit

  • same problem but I've connected my notebook to an external LCD monitor and it starts to have lines again h.p. must have an act on this shit

  • I have the same laptop and the same problem ecept not as serious. Only have an few lines but nevertheless i want to fix this problem. I hooked up my laptop to a desktop monitor and it didnt show the lines so its definately not the graphics card. So its either the LCD screen or the wirining between the lcd and motherboard. So i want to find out which one of these is the problem and how much would it cost to buy a new decent lcd screen and new wiring.

my zd 8000 is about 5 to 6 years old

  • @kev2go1 That basically because you did not turn on the computer for more than 10+ hours everyday if I not wrong.

  • this just happened to me today. This comp ran great for years, and its just a fucking hassle the longer I have it.

  • I have the same problem of manzeroblog, since two days there are two colored areas that cover the image on the screen. How did you solve the problem?

  • I am having the same problem but on the other side of the screen with my Dell. I have read that perhaps the connectors or the inverter in the screen itself is shot. That, or the entire LCD itself.

I am typing this up on the exact broken system, but using an external mon. It's frustrating to know that I'll have to spend monies to fix a 4 year old notebook when I can just buy a new one for about the same price!

  • es marca H.P?

no se extrañen esto es común en este tipo de marca.

  • can u take the co. 2 court & have them pay 4 ur attny fees & court cost? I would try & call the news & go 2 the complaints board.think that would work?some1 needs 2 teach these a-holes a lesson.co.'s usually straighten situations out w/consumers after u hit the complaints board & pretty fast.just some thoughts streaming thru my head.send em a cert.letter.try something.Ive read posts from qvc & they worked.I just have a little netbook.I dont need much but it works fine.the new 10 inspiron dell.

  • With a notebook or brand name computer you need to keep it under warranty. Parts are too proprietary and irreplaceable.

  • will take off your hands in wla if need. recyler/ repairman. this is known unrecognized hp flaw as video explains.

  • Replace your Screen.Look on Ebay

  • HP Mini is great!

  • it is just the Pavilions get Presarios

  • @vistagame Compaq is owned by HP

  • I had this laptop, it's now sitting on my old desk ready to be thrown in the trash can!

  • same problem here.

going for an Aple MAC next time cause HP really sucks

  • I am thinking about buying notebook , after doing lots of research, I won't be buying any hp products. If everyone is getting this problem, hp should fix it for free.

  • :( i am also an unlucky one to buy HP. I just got my Pavilion DV6T (with i3) about 6 days ago. On the very first day of use, the problem showed up. I first used it for around 1.5 hours, then started a 3d game. In 2 mins, some crappy colors attacked the display and then it went blank. Came back after a few seconds. Win7 said in sys tray that "the display driver has stopped responding and successfully recovered". But, after that recovery, display is like using win95 without installing VGA drivers.

  • it needs a soldering iron to the ribbon along the bottom of the monitor.

  • my laptop is the same!!

  • i have HP but now i Have Packard Bell

  • holy shit mine is black and white on the right lol

  • Here is the only fix you can do without spending any money. Just plug in a desktop computer's monitor into the monitor port and power up. When the computer comes up, pres FN F4. This same thing happened to my friend's dell mini netbook. At least that way, you can see what you are doing. If you want to keep the laptop, just use it as a desktop which really defeats the purpose of the laptop, but, it won't render it useless. Otherwise, do this and move everything over and get a new laptop.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • @iDamanate Mac sucks. You should have bought a japanese notebook. Those are the best.

  • I have the problem with an hp 2035 monitor.

  • now this is sad.....

  • Try using a external monitor. :)

  • problem with your motherboard chip. HP's notebook usually have this deffect. If you take it to a nearby computer tech shop, I'm sure they can do something about it. Your motherboard, if I'm right, is OK it's only the chip.> hope this helps, good luck.

  • there can be bust build in in the input of the fans vents causing the over heating ,, it may also be a conection problen because of dry solder joints(decause of heat) or the cable beakdown at the conection because of opning and closing like earphons craping out , i just brought one ,, well i have nt payed for it yet

  • Its 2010, I got this laptop, bort it in jan 2006 and mine still works perfect :)

  • well when you said you couldn't access the start button, well you can actually. first unlock the taskbar and hold your left button mouse and then drag it to the right hand side of the screen. mine is on the right hand side always and BTW my screen has lines, so many colorful lines top to bottom. but not as bad as yours though i got about an inch of thick white line on the left. i rang up HP and told they didn't make this screen anymore. I wonder why??? LOL.

  • BULL SHIT. My new hp dv5t is having the same problem. I just bought it last december, its running windows 7. get dell

  • look at the right your pc is frying on the bottom the power cable

  • They are a horrid laptop in general, the dedicated video ATI model has 3 cooing fans & a pentium 4 cpu, damn things a vacume cleaner, plus the batteries fail on them , infact I have never seen one with a good working battery lol

  • LCD Panel has failed, it is a common problem on this model, I fix laptops for HP & Toshiba. Good news is theres nothing special about the panel, any panel from a Toshiiba or other model will work provided its the same size. Brand doesnt matter either these machines are not fussy

  • have the same problem..fuck HP!..so what's the solution? replacing the screen or the graphics card?

  • same problem ... fuck HP!

  • @nardok21 HP makes great PC's. but their laptops are a pain in the ass

  • @nardok21 i had an hp mini 110 and it's work good

  • @Shiroblack

Because its a NetBook :) And netbooks are awesome!

  • Having this problem with mine as well on the same side screen as yours. If you press down on that part of your screen with your thumb the screen may go back to normal put as soon as you let go the screen messes up again. I had to put a clamp on my screen which constantly applies the needed presure to enable normal display on mine. It stopped me from being able to see clients outside my home. A clamp on your screen is not exactly professional looking. I bought a Dell Win 7 laptop. Fuck HP!

  • this happened to me:(

    mines on the left though,

  • I Bought one too...

swaped 3x times during gurantee time...

then i quited and demanded a refund of the laptop value, and bought a Toshiba

    works almost 24h/24h till now.

    For me...no more HP.

  • Dude it looks like it is your Video Card.

  • copy cat

  • HP Laptops are known to have alot of screen problems where it will work some of the time and then it will have dead pixels thus having to ship it back for 2 weeks and get it repaired.

I would look into getting another laptop like a Gateway. Most people arent a fan of there desktops persay but I know from experience with there laptops that there top of the line. And I didn't have to pay $2,000 for it. Lightning quick.

  • thats been hit by water my cell phone did the same thing

  • Pffff.... Fuck HP, time that company is resigned to history. Asus all the way! Complete design flaw all round with the high end Pavilion, feel sorry for ya :(

  • I use Compaq, which HP now owns. The graphics card was burnt. (it was vista)

I use Packard Bell with NVidia graphics, works good on Xtranormal's STATE program, which eats up a lot of ram. And advent (uses nearly much the same graphics as the compaq) laptop which has good graphics, better than the Compaq.

  • Uhhhhmmm.....no. I just saw a few people spend over $2K on new Mac Book pro's and their screens went out - back light to be more precise. Seems to be a common problem on the Macbook Pro. Computers are computers and they will fail equally. I've seen tons of MACs fail - its actually more common than people think.

  • if this is the 256mb graphics card thats your problem.. ive owned the 64mb version for the past 3 years

  • get dellll they are very good

  • its damage & cu miss handling

  • Also, for those interested, I'm going to say that searching on Google, Youtube, & elsewhere to "do research" about this problem just doesn't justify the fact that a lot of these fucking morons simply don't "maintain" their laptops. If you want a laptop that's "virtually" maintenance free, go get yourself an IBM ThinkPad.

  • And HP would be correct; there is no "significant" design flaw. HP cannot quite possibly determine how, where, & under what conditions a notebook will be used. Simply put, the majority of consumers do not follow the manufacturers guidelines for proper usage (i.e. - a smooth surface for airflow underneath.). Also, those 03 cooling fans can only do so much. Sometimes you have go through a whole can of air, turning the notebook to dislodge ALL of the dust inside. Tear it down completely & clean it!

  • you can drag the start menu to the right part of the desktop... and there your laptop still usable.. did you buy this laptop half the price?

  • This just started happening to me a few months ago. I bought my HP in 2006 and never had problems with it until this year.

  • hp has been sucking so much lately .. they have poor cooling on half the dv series its always either the wifi card dies ( even tho card itself is perfectly fine) or the graphics card dies. my compaq laptop developed the wifi problem after about 9 months .. never will buy another HP/Compaq product again

  • their a hell of a lot better that toshiba in a week of buying mine it crashed and i was only using itunes

    i have a 1.53ghz processor, 2gb ram, 320gb hdd

and it crashed with like just limewire open and itunes in use

    Wtf

  • HP's are good laptops, but this model has had very bad reviews. This is the top of the line laptop, but the screen is a flaw. A very very bad flaw.

  • haha owned

  • its not the screen. its the ribbion cable that goes from the mother board to the screen after lots of shuting and oping it part of the ribion rips their are like 7 very small wire in the band you proubly can just to take it an part an look. you can get an viedo glasses that plug into the vga port.

  • Drag the taskbar to the right side, and you got the Start menu again, easy.

  • hey.try to replace the lcd screen but first try the video card to replace it.:)

  • I Have a zd8001ap and zd8002ap notebook. The 3D part of the ATI x600 graphics card is fried. I can only run the notebooks with the stabard windows VGA driver (1024x768 res)

  • Weirdly, none of these problems have happened to mine. Can I ask everyone which BIOS they are running? There was a BIOS update ages ago and one of the enhancements was the ability to make the screen a lot more brighter. I'll find mine in out in a bit.

  • I have ZD8000 too and when I start a game the screen becomes slowely white.... I HATE IT! I can't play any full screen games.....

  • fuckn hp this always happen wit hp laptops

  • my ASUS laptop is nothing problem a 100% :P

  • please help.. tha black portion of my Toshiba Qosmio x305 LCD has some orange/gold particles and the some of the white portion of the screen has turned into light green.. i dont know how to fix it ...

  • hey if u want to fix it yourself let me no then ill send u a video responce showing u how to repair it

  • what ever you do...DONT GET ANY KIND OF HP LAPTOP, but you can get an hp desktop but ive seen A LOT of problems with their laptops :/

  • my screen is full dead i cant see anything!!

  • put the taskbar on the right

  • is this a comon problems of hp laptop? coz my scrin has lines and its geting more.btw im using a hp pavilion zd8000.. wat would be the cause of this??

  • Well I had same problem. As I had an isurance my motherboard was replaced. Aparently it is foulty bios in graphic processor... And they replaced my super bright screen with some kind of shitty lcd...

  • aww that sucks my dad has that same laptop and he had to get the hard drive replaced and thats all. how did that happen?

  • ha ha ha , yea try that, and if it doesn't work, google the computer and add LCD screen, and you might get places where to buy a new LCD, then just open it up, and put in the new one...

  • on my labtop its and hp and the screen is black and i can still get on the web through run but i want to get to my start button so i can get a recovery disc to reset it does any one know how

    \

    Please help

  • Just get a new LCD screen and replace it using the repair manual that's all over the net. This laptop is dead easy to take apart. And it's going to cost you less if you have somebody else do it.

  • anyone know where you can find a DYI replacement of this screen? i'm about to replace it. do i need to use a spudger to open it?

  • at least you still can use the half of the screen

  • yo i have this laptop but not the charger. i checked hp site but could not find anything. can you tell me where to get a charger??

  • hey you should really get a hold of the person who sold it to you and make sure you get it coz to buy from hp is 100 pounds +

  • well to start off HP sucks. and you would be probably better off buying a whole new computer.

  • My computer is an Hp Pavillion zd8000 too, it has that problem on the left side, since 3 days ago, i dont know what to do. When i connect computer to other screen or to television, it works on it, but the screen has bad image and that black thing. If someone can help me with this, i'd be gratefull :-)

  • Can I have that laptop if you get a new one, Of coarse wiping all of your personal files- Give you 100 bucks for it!

  • My HP Pavilion zd8000 bought 8/2005 has done the exact same thing. Naturally my 3yr repair contract just went out in Aug of 2008. I have found replacement lcd screens on the web, which my son says will work, but you need to have someone that knows exactly what they are doing to replace the screen because of all the connections. And knowing how to get the old screen out is important, not to damage any of the connections to reconnect the new screen. Some of the replacement screens are reasonable.

  • Heat generated from the laptop whilst this is on can cause some serious problems.

I have the ZD8398 and so far, touch wood, haven't had any real problems other than just a fried battery. I'll be opening the case up to clean out all the dust and putting new high transfer heat fluid over to CPU/heatsink in order to alleviate some of these problems. For now, all I can recommend is that use the LCD on a low level lamp setting and do not close the lid straight after use or whilst the laptop is on.

  • What zd8000 systems is everybody running? As I have said, mine is zd8398EA

  • ZD8185EA

  • I own a Dell Einspiron E1705 and the same thing happened, only to the right half of my screen. So i guess im a little better off. Anyone kow how to shrink the desktop to half a screen?

  • right click on the desktop click personalize and desktop backgroud u will need to change that first then drag all you icons to the left side

  • i was just about to get that laptop the other day

  • my hp laptops screen, is completely dead. It broke when I dropped it from like 2 feet in the air. Ive dropped glass coffy cups from 6 feet in the air, and they didnt even break. HP makes crappy weak cheap parts.

  • I have it to. It fried the graphic card 2 days after the guarrente

  • ctrl + alt + shift

  • i just got that exact same laptop. my battery is completely fried, but what worries me is that i have 4 tiny vertical lines on my display. i hope that doesn't happen to me.

  • Had the same problem!!!!

Now only a beep sounds & it restarts over and over!hp sucks!

It's not a monitor problem i think the motherboard is a piece of shit!

  • Use your T.V as your Monitor , that what i do and it work good...Use your RGB Cable, My T.V become my monitor,,and it work good.

  • ive a dell inspiron 530..brand new..i was playing sim city4 on it and i tried putting in cheats in it..i pressed the CTRL and ALT at the same time and movin the arowwes keys..the screnn rotated...so i got tat fixed and when i did half the screen was black...so wat wud i do..im fucked

  • faulty LCD screen

  • damn at least im not the only one with problems with my HP. Once i bought it, the next month the wireless card was fucked up!! Its Been about a year now and still doesn't work and the company says that the cost would be like $200... It Sucks big time

  • fuck!

i have one for about 2 years now, i hope that this shit doesn't happen to mine, i'm pretty new to this notebook thing so if mine goes tits up then what are some recomendations for tried and true notebooks?

    any suggestions?

  • thats a funny comment. =]

  • is there any way to fix this problem?

it really pissme off seeing my LT with this problem..HP suck!

  • ok first of all i understand that these issues are a real pain the rear end but..

hp and other manufacturers give a general standard 1 year manufacturers warranty (some laptops come with 3 years as standard) at any time a problem can develop sometimes its a known fault other times it is not

in most cases it is just bad luck that the computer stops working or develops a fault other times it is a batch issue and that is when manufacturers are forced by law to offer out of warranty service

  • hp is a rip of artist if they charge u o fix something tht broke bc of hp

  • that happened to me put instead of the left side...It was the whole bottom...and mine isn't black...it looks like clouds, I hate it

  • I have the same EXACT problem. what a piece of shit!!!

  • Mine burned the motherboard, and it will cost about 800$ to repair!! And the laptop costed about 2400$ from new.

  • download true video driver!!! aaahhh.......

  • I own a ZD8000 and the middle fan has stopped working, does anybody know what could have caused this? The laptop is around 4 years old, and is working perfectly apart from this.

    Cheers!

  • My zd8000 has around 17 coloured lines running down the screen. Its completely stuffed. :-(

  • Haha! I thought mine was bad - i only have 14. Must try harder:)

  • this thing is heavy.. and useless if display is half dead..

  • Heavy indeed.
