  • Norbert Haug @ 8:56?

  • I wish they could broadcast the VLN series and the 24h. race in english.

  • Hey you two children arguing about Clark and Senna, do it somewhere else on a relevant page!!! Grow up and admit they were both some of the best of their times, both met with tragic "Motor racing" accidents regardless of discussing their talents, in Italy and Germany, but both serve to remind us that talent has limits to how often it will "save you" when you are on the limit week in and week out. This video is all about Hans, Manfred, Tom, Dieter and the gang!

  • great vid ! thanks for posting

  • Is that Tom Walkinshaw in the Jaguar???

  • Yes

  • Gracias...

  • Just amazing!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  • Sounds like the womans name is Annette Merison?

  • yep you're right

  • No you ain't. Her name was Annette Meeuvissen and she died in 2004 of cancer, aged 42.

  • thx for this rare vid!

  • I'm from DownUnda but can sum1 tell me the name of blonde female driver? I think she is Mercede whatsoever her last name is? She came to Bathurst in 1987, if it is her?

  • I'm not sure, but I think the woman in the vid is Lella Lombardi.

You may be remembering Audi rally driver Michele Mouton.

  • The German ladies who raced at Bathurst 87 were Anette Meeuvissen and Mercedes Stermitz. I have no idea if the driver in this video was either of them.

  • hans stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!Arguably the best driver of all time

  • @marvinbenz

    Aryton Senna.

    Your argument is now invalid.

  • @Atheismrulez sorry for being pedantic, but so's your's - jim clarke.

  • @MrTautologist

Aryton Senna>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jim Clarke. To compare any other racing driver to Aryton Senna is pretty ridiculous, to be honest.

Just because he was competitive in various motorsports doesn't mean he's a better driver. He may have been competitive in all of them, but not even close to how much Aryton Senna was in Formula One.

  • @Atheismrulez oh dear. if that's your thinking on the matter you clearly don't know anything about clarke, let alone the regard with which he was held in by his peers. incidentally, to a man, they revered him. obviously comparing generations is fraught with practical difficulties, particularly that as time progresses those who witnessed past greatness, well, die, to put it bluntly, and their qualities get over shadowed by events from more recent, more readily remember-able by the masses, times.

  • @Atheismrulez to say that comparing them is "pretty ridiculous", is in itself ridiculous. there are 3 drivers who are generally considered the greatest of all time, fangio, clarke and senna(some people consider schumacher a 4th). quite frankly, to pick between them is churlish, they were all obscenely talented, all had the raw speed, and are all considered by their peers to have been demonstrably better than everyone else. but of the 3, as an f1 driver, clarke and fangio had the fewer faults.

  • @MrTautologist

No, it's not. Unlike the others, Senna did anything he could to get 1st, even if it meant putting himself at risk. You could say he's the ultimate driver. The only thing he focused was on winning races and he was a lot more competitive and aggressive than the other two drivers. There was not one situation in a car where Senna was nothing less than "excellent".

  • @Atheismrulez except when his single mindedness led to him crashing, when someone with the same raw pace, yet a shade more guile, may have won. monaco '88, senna miles, literally, clear of prost, basically guaranteed victory, so eased off a shade. prost, gained a big chunk on one lap, senna replied by setting 2 fastest laps, pushing hard on the next he lost concentration and crashed out. if he'd merely upped his pace a bit, he'd have won. one instance of him being somewhat less than excellent.

  • @Atheismrulez don't get me wrong, i see senna as the 2nd greatest, ergo, as a bloody genius, a veritable deity. however, when being pedantic, as i apologised for in the first place, clarke was equally as exceptionally rapid, as transcendingly dominant, but also had that slight edge of sense, which meant he made fewer errors of judgement. i don't know, maybe that was merely a product of racing at a time when if you raced for 5 years, at that level, you stood a 3 in 5 chance of being killed.

  • kudos to the iron-balled chap in the Rover SD1

  • very very nice !!

  • Where's the volvo 240? aha.., It came -84!!

    I love my brick.

  • Actually the Volvo 240 Turbo did compete in this race... driven by Thomas Lindstrom and Anders Olafsson. An early race for the private team while the car was in development. It finished 10th.

  • Great video! Would love to see more from this period of racing, especially the touring cars.

P.S.: There were no Alfas in the biggest third division, with the Jag´s and the BMW that batteled for overall wins. So I gues there were Alfas but not mentioned by the cameras.

  • nice one mate

Where are the Alfas ? :(
