my drummer does it to lighten the mood when practice isn't going well (clash of ideas, whatever), because we always laugh :D

Man those drums sound AWFUL. It's not just the poor recording, they are ringing like a broken bell, the snare especially. An his strainer tensions is all screwed up as well. Those Pearl exports are some pretty cheap drums. Get some muffling rings or some moon gel or barring that, use some duct tape for crying out loud!
